The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 693- The Man Not Chosen By the Gods

Chapter 693- The Man Not Chosen By the Gods

At the same instant. Outside.

The eyes of all seven divine statues opened simultaneously. Lights projected out and fell on Reinhardt’s body.

"What?!"

The sudden occurrence took everyone by surprise. They all became alert. No one expected the statues to suddenly move.

"What’s going on?" Vanessa immediately checked on Reinhardt’s condition.

After seeing that there was nothing unusual with him, she sighed in relief.

"His body is fine." Saying that, she looked at the lights shooting out of the eyes of the seven statues. Even though she herself was being bathed by the light right now, no changes were occurring to her.

This meant that this was unique to the Divine Paladin.

"Could the Seven Gods have given him some trial?"

That was the only thought she could come up with. Vanessa shared her conjecture with the others.

Seeing that the Divine Paladin was alright, they could only nod their heads and wait.

However, just as they thought that, the entire shrine, no, the entire capital, or perhaps the entire Ancient Kingdom, shook greatly.

Crevices appeared in the ground, spreading across the land. And from the depths, dense, extreme amounts of demonic energy erupted in a violent surge.

The air was quickly saturated with demonic energy as it fought violently with the purification power of the World Tree’s branch.

.

.

Reinhardt felt as though he were falling through an endless current of light and memory. Then, the fall stopped.

He found himself standing inside a vast hall. The architecture was grand beyond words. Ancient pillars rose toward a ceiling hidden by radiant mist, and seven indistinct figures could be seen standing on air at the far end of the chamber.

Their forms were impossible to perceive clearly due to the divinity surrounding them.

Before them knelt a knight. His armor was battered yet dignified, and though Reinhardt could not see the outline of his face, he could tell enough to know that the other party was a human male.

The knight lowered his head and spoke with conviction.

"Those traitorous bastards have defiled the names of the Seven Gods. I swear upon my life... I will hunt them down and make them pay."

Reinhardt reckoned that this seemed to be some memory that he was witnessing, or rather, that the Seven Gods wanted him to witness.

After the knight spoke, a gentle voice called out.

"You have already done enough, my knight. It is alright. You do not have to do this."

Her voice was soft, filled with love and soothing to the soul.

Right after her, another voice followed, a female voice, her tone heavier with concern. "The path ahead is stained with death. I cannot allow you to go."

Yet despite all that, the knight remained unmoving, his mind set.

"I cannot stop now."

A third voice sighed softly. "Must you always be this stubborn?"

Despite the worry in their voices, warmth lingered there as well. The seven figures seemed proud of him, yet helpless to change his decision.

The knight rose. Without another word, he turned and walked out of the hall.

In the end, the Seven Gods could only watch as the knight walked toward his inevitable fate.

With that, the scene shattered, and everything changed.

.

Another scene played out. The next vision was of a battlefield. A battlefield so vast that words failed to describe it.

Reinhardt saw mountains crumble, seas split, and the sky crack. The level of destruction was on an epic scale.

Every collision distorted the world, and every strike altered the landscape. This was not a battle that just anyone could participate in.

This was a battle between beings standing at the summit of power.

At the eye of the storm stood a knight, the very same knight that he had witnessed in the earlier memory. He stood there alone and upright.

Facing him were five figures. Just like the knight, their appearances could not be seen clearly. Only their silhouettes and terrifying power could be felt.

The knight, even while outnumbered, fought bravely against his enemies. The battle raged on for days, completely changing the topography of the land.

To the observing Reinhardt, although the fight was extremely fierce, he could tell that the knight was at a disadvantage. Though he managed to injure the five, his own injuries were far worse.

Yet despite all that, he fought like a man possessed. Again and again he rose. Again and again, he bled. And again and again, he challenged impossible odds.

Be that as it may, even legends have limits. In the end, a sword pierced his body, and another sneak attack shattered his defenses.

With that, his armor broke, and his strength swiftly faded away. Finally, the knight fell.

The battlefield became silent. The five figures stood there, lamenting.

"You idiot, why did you have to be so stubborn till the end? You could have come with us to witness the peak of existence. Yet you remain loyal to those seven."

"Enough, Royce. This man cannot be saved, nor can this world."

With those parting words, the five disappeared, leaving behind a corpse and countless regrets.

Reinhardt witnessed everything. Just when he thought that the memory would change, it remained still.

Time continued to pass.

Then, before long, three figures appeared beside the fallen knight.

Unlike before, their divinity had weakened. Their bodies were stained with blood, their robes torn, and their auras dim. From their appearance, it seemed like they had just participated in a grueling battle.

That said, because their auras were so weak, the divinity covering them was gone, and their appearance could finally be seen once again.

Reinhardt’s eyes slightly widened. These three figures were none other than the three goddesses.

One radiated warmth and compassion. One carried the tranquility of death itself. One possessed the brilliance that seemed to shelter all things.

The Goddess of Healing and Love, the Goddess of Death and Diligence, and the Goddess of Moon and Purity.

The three goddesses stood before the knight and sighed in sorrow.

The Goddess of Healing gently lifted the knight’s lifeless body into her arms. Tears streamed down her face.

"Would the tide of battle have been different... if he had still been alive?" Her hands trembled as she slowly stroked the man’s face.

No one answered.

As the goddess who was most used to death, even the Goddess of Death looked heartbroken.

Reinhardt stood in a corner, trying to piece together everything.

For a long time, nobody spoke. Then the Goddess of Death finally spoke again. Her tone was accusatory and angry, angry at the man who walked toward his inevitable fate despite their repeated attempts to stop him.

"He made his choice. I warned him countless times. I saw death following him. I told him not to go." The more she spoke, the more her expression darkened. "But he never listened."

"You are wrong. It was not that he did not listen, but rather that he had no choice."

The one to defend the knight was the Goddess of Moon and Purity. "He knew the vulnerable state we were in and chose to stand in front of our enemy to become our shield. He knew that if he did not buy us time, then..."

She did not speak the last part of the sentence.

"We made a mistake not choosing this man. Had he been our choice, then perhaps things would not have deteriorated to this extent."

"No, he cannot die." The Goddess of Healing tightly held the knight’s corpse. "He still hasn’t fulfilled his promise."

Hearing those words, the Goddess of Death looked at her sharply.

"Odeth, what are you trying to do?"

The Goddess of Love and Healing did not answer. Instead, she raised her hand, and divine power gathered around her palm.

Immediately, the Goddess of Death’s eyes widened.

"Are you insane?"

Odeth’Rhea met her gaze. A determination she had never seen before flashed within those pure eyes of hers. "I need your help."

Hearing this, the Goddess of Death froze. Then her expression turned grave.

"Have you lost your mind? Tampering with the soul of the deceased is a grave sin. A soul once dead must return to the cycle. That law exists for a reason. The authority over reincarnation belongs to another god."

The Goddess of Healing did not waver. "But you can do it, right?"

Surpassing the authority of another god... The Goddess of Death closed her eyes. After a long silence, she nodded slowly and reluctantly. She too wanted to help this man whom she did not choose, as much as Odeth did.

"I can. But don’t blame me later. The strain on his soul will be unimaginable. Breaking the law always has a price. He will suffer, and his suffering will be for a very long time. He may feel incomplete and even try to take his own life..."

Before the Goddess of Death and Diligence could complete her sentence, the Goddess of Moon and Purity interjected.
