The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 237: The Eight Immortals Cross the Sea

Chapter 237: The Eight Immortals Cross the Sea

About half an hour later, everyone gradually calmed down.

He Tianming spoke slowly, “If you find it really difficult, you can also choose to live in Aoyuan by yourself, as long as you can bear the potential dangers that may arise in the future.

Everyone’s lives are not easy. Personally, I think it’s safer to stick together. What do you think?”

“Captain He, are you moving or not?”

“I can’t afford to buy a house either, but I’ll definitely find a way to earn points to move.”

“Well, since you’re moving, my family will move too.”

“My family also wants to move, but how do we earn points?”

Seeing He Tianming’s firm attitude, those who initially didn’t want to move couldn’t help but feel anxious. After thinking about it, they reluctantly raised their hands in agreement.

Most of them had moved in within the past two years and still trusted He Tianming.

If they hadn’t moved into Aoyuan, they might have died outside.

So, even if they had to stick together, they had to find people they could trust.

They all remembered the ruthless people in the resettlement camp, who would casually throw weaker individuals off the building just to grab houses in Aoyuan.

It happened more than once, and they even dared to kill the staff.

It was too dangerous to stay alone or go out alone.

With no other choice in reality, they had to agree even if they didn’t want to, just to survive.

Therefore, except for Huo Yishen and Jiang Ning who’s not there at the moment, everyone unanimously agreed to move to Aoyuan.

Next, the issue was how to earn points.

On the way back, He Tianming was already considering this issue and now had a plan.

It was too dangerous for everyone to work separately, so he suggested forming teams to earn points.

“We’ll divide into several groups. Young, strong men will scavenge in the ruins, picking up steel or iron products. Those with less strength will dig sand by the Fengcheng River…”

Aoyuan didn’t have cars, so he would communicate and see if he could get relevant departments to send cars to pick them up.

The rest, mainly women and children, would be responsible for reclaiming land and planting crops like corn and sweet potatoes. They would plant as much as possible to exchange for materials to build houses later.

Vegetables grow the fastest, so they could plant multiple crops and store them after drying.

With clear division of labor, clear tasks, and the selection of team leaders, everyone agreed without objection.

They trusted He Tianming and hoped that through everyone’s efforts, they could settle down in the new city area.

Living in cramped conditions was miserable, but being homeless refugees on the streets was even worse.

When Jiang Ning returned, she happened to encounter the dispersal of the meeting. He Tianming called the two of them over and briefly explained the content of the meeting.

As expected, neither of them had any intention of fighting for housing.

“Captain He, we won’t participate in this task.”

He Tianming understood and expressed his gratitude again, “Thanks for your help with the seeds.”

It was fortunate that he asked in time; if he had waited, it would have probably cost several times more.

The people in Aoyuan didn’t rest. After the meeting, each group immediately took action, going out to scavenge, dig sand, and cultivate land.

Jiang Ning stood on the terrace, watching the busy figures by the Fengcheng River in the distance.

After two consecutive rains, the drought had been greatly alleviated, and the underground water level had not continued to decline.

Afraid that the good sand would be taken by others, Jiang Ning felt an itch in her hands. “When should we go dig sand?”

Huo Yishen stared at the figures in the river. “We need to make a sand screening net.”

Picking up stones manually like they did was not only inefficient but also earned fewer points.

A sand screening net was simple: it was made by welding steel bars into rows, leaving gaps in between. When sand was poured onto the net, larger stones would be caught while finer sand would pass through to the other end.

They had plenty of steel bars in the space, so the two of them quickly cut the steel bars to the right lengths and welded three screening nets.

These things were very durable. Jiang Ning suggested, “Why don’t we give them one?”

Aoyuan provided them with a comfortable environment. Although they had to pay 20 kilograms of coarse grains as rent every month, the cost-effectiveness was indeed high.

They didn’t know what the future held, but being able to show kindness to others even in the previous three years of the end of the world was truly precious.

As long as it didn’t affect their own interests, Jiang Ning didn’t mind helping out a bit.

After all, compared to those devils with weapons, people like them were much better off alive.

Huo Yishen had no objections. “Sure.”

They went to bed early, woke up early, put on temperature-regulating clothes, took sun protection measures, and went out with the two screening nets.

Half an hour later, a large truck drove along the bumpy road and stopped by the Fengcheng River.

The earthquake had severed the Fengcheng River. Some members dug on one side of the river, while Jiang Ning and the others dug on the other side, nearly two hundred meters apart.

When a member passed by, she quickly stopped them and said, “I’ve arranged for a friend to make two screening nets. You can borrow one. Just return it after using it.”

The member was pleasantly surprised and thanked her repeatedly.

He carried the screening net and shouted to his team members from afar, “Comrade Huo and Sister Jiang lent us a screening net.”

With good quality sand, they could exchange for more points, which gave them more hope.

Huo Yishen walked to the center of the river and chose a flat area. He used a hoe to clear away the weeds and mud.

Doudou helped with a small shovel. Suddenly, she exclaimed, “Sis, the little grass is sprouting.”

Jiang Ning squatted down and used her hands to uncover the clumps of mud. A grass with a twisted body was struggling to break through the soil.

Jiang Ning sighed. This was vitality.

Digging sand was hard work. Huo Yishen endured the sun and tirelessly worked like a machine.

He didn’t let Jiang Ning and Doudou do much. It was the energetic Coke who used it’s paws to dig the mud vigorously.

Not only fine sand but also the coarse sand and gravel filtered out were not wasted. When they built their future villa, they could mix them with cement to pave the courtyard or use them for wall construction.

This work was slow, and they had to secretly stash some into the space when Doudou wasn’t paying attention.

After a while, they hadn’t gathered much sand with three people and a dog.

Doudou reflected that she hadn’t done much work herself.

So, despite her brother’s objections, she continued to give herself more tasks.

At noon, they didn’t bother going back home and sat in a shade shelter to eat lunch.

Afraid that the members would suddenly come over, they didn’t dare to eat much. Each had a bowl of pork rib and corn soup with buns and pan-fried dumplings.

By the time it got dark, after working hard, they finally gathered half a truckload of sand.

The members had all gone home, but the three of them were still diligently working.

When their vision became blurry, they packed up and went home.

Huo Yishen waited on the roadside with Doudou, while Jiang Ning carried the dog to deliver the goods.

In a place where there was no one around, they quickly stored the sand into the space under the cover of night.

After working continuously for half a month, Huo Yishen felt like he had gotten significantly tanned.

Apart from what they left out, the space was filled with seven truckloads of fine river sand and three truckloads of coarse gravel.

The members of Aoyuan dug even more, working tirelessly day and night, showing a momentum of digging up all the sand from the Fengcheng River.

With enough sand, Jiang Ning also lent them the screening net they used.

He Tianming negotiated with the relevant departments several times and finally reached an agreement. They sent trucks to load the sand and the steel they scavenged, stainless steel doors, and iron frames.

This was the convenience of teamwork. With more goods in hand, they could negotiate better deals, while those who acted alone had to figure out how to transport their goods to register and earn points.
