The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 245: Nail Board

Chapter 245: Nail Board

Fortunately, the glass was bulletproof; otherwise, Jiang Ning would have been killed on the spot.

Ma Guangnian and the others were terrified, but Huo Yishen, focused on driving and remained surprisingly calm.

The car had been modified, not only with bulletproof glass but also with puncture-proof and bulletproof tires.

Of course, if it weren’t for Ma Guangnian and the others, Jiang Ning would probably have demanded to stop until the high-speed train carrying the robbers to hell had arrived.

Criminal gangs were everywhere, so it was more important for researchers and doctors not to deviate from their paths.

Upon reaching Yuecheng, this once bustling metropolis now resembled a wasteland, with only a few buildings standing amidst the ruins. The sunlight reflected off the glass shards was glaring.

Its tragic experience surpassed that of Fengcheng, beyond what words and images could describe.

Desolation, sorrow, and despair.

Buildings collapsed, walls crumbled, yet survivors persisted.

They either lived in makeshift shelters or dug holes under the ruins.

Jiang Ning averted her gaze, not wanting to look anymore.

Following Ma Guangnian’s directions, the Hummer arrived at a development not far from the city center.

The research institute had collapsed, and this was their temporary location.

Returning safely, several staff members emerged from the building. “Did this trip yield results?”

“We’ve made significant progress, but it was too dangerous. Fortunately, a kind comrade intervened to save us. We’ll provide the details later on what happen at Jinshi Mountain.”

Ma Guangnian thanked them again and made sure to tell Huo Yishen which areas of Yuecheng were particularly dangerous, urging him not to go there.

Huo Yishen nodded faintly and turned the car around to leave.

Compared to Fengcheng, Yuecheng was relatively safer. Not only did it have military headquarters, but there were also more troops to maintain order.

It took nearly an hour to leave the city area due to numerous roadblocks, but they eventually found the road to Huicheng.

Fearing that Huo Yishen would be too tired, Jiang Ning took turns driving.

During extreme heat, nearby cities all came to the military base in Huicheng for water. The roadblocks were cleared, and the roads were solid, much smoother than in the city.

Sitting in the back, they snacked and played.

Being part of Ma Guangnian’s team meant even the most exquisite buns were off-limits. They’re replaced by plain steamed buns and limited water.

Huo Yishen ate and made sure Jiang Ning didn’t go hungry, offering her pancakes while she’s driving.

“Woof!”

“Brother, I want some too.”

Huo Yishen couldn’t help but laugh and cry. There was never a moment of slackness.

Jiang Ning enjoyed the delicious pancakes and casually turned on the music in the car, taking a sip of her milk tea.

Before she could swallow, Huo Yishen suddenly turned serious. “Watch out!”

Thankfully, having experienced storms before, she didn’t spray the milk tea out of her mouth.

There was a sharp turn ahead, and something seemed to be on the road.

Huo Yishen’s expression was grave. “It’s a nail board.”

No need to say more; they had encountered professionals specializing in robbery.

Unfortunately, this was the unavoidable route to both the military and official bases.

For survivors, it was hell; for robbers, it was heaven.

Every day, many survivors or vehicles passed through, and as long as they closed their eyes and brandished their knives, they could feast.

Of course, they didn’t dare to steal water from convoys supplying various cities because they were afraid of military retaliation.

While the military base did dispatch troops to eliminate bandits, they were like weeds, quickly regrowing after being cut down, an endless cycle.

Many of them were survivors who wanted to seek refuge at the base. If they weren’t robbed on the way, they ran out of food and couldn’t hold on, so they banded together and turned into bandits, preying on other survivors who were in the same predicament they were originally in.

Jiang Ning firmly stepped on the brakes and took out her binoculars.

Tsk, a board with nails over three meters long, all sharp steel, showing no rust, suggesting it’s been used often.

“Bang!”

A sharp impact sound came, and bullet marks appeared on the side window glass.

It seemed these were not ordinary bandits.

Jiang Ning’s temper flared instantly as she retrieved weapons and explosives from the compartment.

Since they didn’t want to give her a chance to be kind, they couldn’t blame anyone else.

Restless as she was, she remained rational and stayed in the car.

The dog was agitated, grinding its teeth, and wagging its tail restlessly!

Doudou was equally vigilant, pulling out the gun her brother had given her.

They remained in a standoff for 20 minutes, refusing to get out of the car, each waiting for the other to give in.

“You have the guts to lay down the nail board; you should have the guts to let me out of the car.”

Eventually, one side couldn’t hold back anymore.

Around a blind corner, on the roadside mounds, more than twenty people emerged.

There were men and women, some with knives, some with steel pipes, some with baseball bats, all with indifferent expressions and murderous eyes.

The leader held an illegally manufactured pistol, walking toward the Hummer with a scowl.

Huo Yishen’s sharp eyes scanned them like a hawk. “Except for the leader, none of the others have lethal weapons.”

A bunch of ragtag!

Perhaps for the people in the car, but those outside didn’t think so.

Their repeated success had made them increasingly bold.

Having been open for so long, catching such a big fish today made the leader particularly excited.

A Hummer, this was an end-of-the-world war chariot, and it was bulletproof.

As long as they had it, what else was there to fear? They could merge with other strongholds and become even more powerful.

Doudou cautioned, “Brother, there are people behind us too.”

Huo Yishen turned around and indeed saw another group of about sixteen or seventeen people, also armed with cold weapons.

From their mutual wariness, it was clear that they were two completely separate groups, but targeting the same prey.

Well, caught between two groups, they were like a sandwich.

Jiang Ning didn’t expect even roadblocks would turn out like this.

Could countless people heading to the base really arrive safely?

The ones in front, armed with guns, didn’t take the competing group behind them seriously at all, swaggering towards Jiang Ning with their guns, threatening coldly, “Give us the car and food, and we’ll spare your lives.”

The vehicle and supplies were theirs; the two-legged sheep could be left to the ones behind.

“What did you say?”

Whether they were too used to bullying or had encountered too many weak targets before, their tone was unexpectedly arrogant. Jiang Ning suppressed a smile and lowered the car window. “It’s too far; I can’t hear you.”

Confident in their numbers, the other side continued to advance another ten meters or so.

To intimidate, they even stood in a formation. “You’re lucky today, I…”

Before he could finish his sentence, the car window swiftly lowered, and Jiang Ning fired at him.

Under Huo Yishen’s guidance, her aim became more and more accurate, and a red dot appeared on his forehead.

At the same time, Huo Yishen was not idle, lighting the fuse of an explosive and throwing it forcefully into the crowd.

Just as they were stunned by the leader’s death, an explosive landed at their feet.

The sudden change happened too quickly for them to respond. Before they could even turn their heads, they spotted the burning fuse…
