The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 523: A Couple’s Argument

Chapter 523: A Couple’s Argument

Doudou isn’t the type to speak without thinking; she already has a plan in mind.

“We can go fishing, dry the fish under the sun to completely kill any viruses, and then bury the salted fish in a pit. Soon, maggots will grow from it,” she explained.

This was a method she had learned from Huacheng Base long ago.

Once the maggots grew, they could be used to feed poultry, which would allow them to keep reproducing.

Ten years of hard work had not been in vain. Doudou wasn’t planning to rely entirely on her space.

Jiang Ning supported her unconditionally.

They prepared ten eggs each of chickens, ducks, geese, and quails and put them in the incubator.

After talking it over, Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen decided to go fishing at the sea.

In the unexplored ocean, marine life was particularly abundant.

At dawn, they rowed a wooden boat to deeper waters and then took out the fishing boat.

Since neither of them had experience with fishing, even casting the net was a challenge.

After repeatedly watching tutorial videos and practicing, they finally succeeded in throwing the net properly.

They cast the net and slowly moved the boat in circles.

When they retrieved the net, they actually harvested hundreds of kilograms of fish.

The catch included several species, some deformed and some normal.

Jiang Ning was concerned. “Doudou, are the deformed fish usable?”

“They’re fine,” Doudou replied confidently. “At Huacheng Base, fish with normal appearances were sent to food factories, while the deformed ones were used for fermentation to breed maggots.”

She began explaining to her brother and sister-in-law, “Maggot farming experts say that most viruses weaken over time as they replicate and divide, and some infected hosts even develop antibodies.”

Jiang Ning scratched her nose after listening to the explanation, and it seemed to make sense.

Right or wrong, practice would provide the answer. They couldn’t shake her confidence.

After casting the net several times, they caught more than a thousand kilograms of fish and stored them in the space to make their journey back easier.

When they returned to the boat, the three of them put on one-piece raincoats to protect themselves from being scratched by the fish and from possible infections.

They took the fish out of the space, then spread them out on the beach to dry in the sun.

After everything was set up, Jiang Ning covered her nose with her hand as she turned the fish with a stick and whispered to Huo Yishen, “Don’t you think these fish look less deformed than the ones we found when we first started wandering at sea?”

Huo Yishen nodded, “Maybe the sea area is different, or perhaps Doudou is right, the ancient virus is gradually weakening.”

Jiang Ning lowered her voice. “Do you dare eat poultry raised with maggots?”

Huo Yishen didn’t want to discourage his sister’s enthusiasm. “We can raise the poultry a little longer. If there’s no problem, we can feed it to the wolf pups first.”

There were plenty of supplies in the space, so if they ran out of food, it wouldn’t be too late to eat the poultry.

Jiang Ning gave him a look of contempt. So cunning.

Huo Yishen met her gaze. “And you? Would you dare eat it?”

Jiang Ning smoothly replied, “I’ll follow your lead.”

The two exchanged sly grins and got back to work.

Over the next two weeks, they dried more than 2,000 kilograms of salted fish and decided to stop fishing for now.

By the time the poultry hatched, the rocky landmark near the shore had risen more than 100 meters above the sea.

During that time, there were a few days of light rain. Sparse patches of weeds began to sprout from the barren brown soil. Although they looked weak, they gave off a strong sense of vitality.

Jiang Ning watered them every time she passed by.

Some died, but others remained strong.

Doudou dug a hole, spread a waterproof cloth on it, and then poured dozens of kilograms of salted fish. She then added chopped potato sprouts, mixed them thoroughly, and poured in some water to ferment.

As the wind blew, the powerful smell of salted fish wafted from a distance.

After a few days, live maggots really came out.

Doudou went to pick them up every day, and then took them back to feed the poultry.

The fertilized eggs originally come from poultry that have endured natural disasters. Having survived various calamities, their eggs possess exceptionally excellent genetic traits.

After hatching, the poultry were relatively easy to raise.

The chicken and duck enclosures they used had originally been built by Huo Yishen when they were still staying at the new town villa, and now they came in handy.

During the day, the sun was warm, but at night, the wind was cold and biting. A simple enclosure was no longer enough.

Huo Yishen wanted to build a greenhouse with bamboo, but Jiang Ning found it troublesome and instead brought out a military tent from her space.

These tents were obtained for free from the United Base warehouse, and there were so many that they could last several lifetimes. Jiang Ning had no reason to feel guilty about using them.

As the poultry grew bigger, Huo Yishen made a fence to surround the tent so they could come out and move freely.

While the siblings were busy farming outside, Jiang Ning spent most of her time working in the space.

After some time, the intense summer finally passed, and cooler autumn days arrived.

The dandelions grew awkwardly, but they still bloomed, with their fluffy white flowers floating in the wind.

Some seeds landed nearby, faintly adding a touch of green to the barren soil.

After breeding maggots, the thoroughly rotted salted fish becomes great fertilizer. Doudou scattered them all over the fields.

The soil was barren, and the season wasn’t ideal for planting, so the wheat grew sparse and weak. Still, some of it managed to bear grain.

Jiang Ning didn’t count on the wheat harvest to feed herself. She was just happy if the crops managed to grow at all.

With Huo Yishen’s support, she wasn’t worried about Doudou. Instead, her headaches came from Bai Xue.

She took the three little ones who were almost adults to the beach to fish.

At first, Jiang Ning just pulled its ears to scold it, “The fish in the sea are not safe. You will die if you eat them.”

But as soon as she drove them home, Bai Xue would sneak out with the pups again.

Jiang Ning was so angry that she took a bamboo stick and beat it twice, “Do you have a death wish?”

Bai Xue didn’t resist; she lowered her head under Jiang Ning’s stick. But when Coke tried to scold her, she bared her teeth and fought back.

To everyone’s shock, Bai Xue suddenly went crazy and fought fiercely with Coke.

She bit his leg hard enough to break the skin.

She fought him right in front of Jiang Ning, as if he were her sworn enemy.

In the past, she wouldn’t have dared to bite him, especially not in Jiang Ning’s presence.

But now she had.

She was taking out her anger on someone else, plain and simple!

The noise was so loud that Huo Yishen and Doudou ran over.

When they arrived and saw Bai Xue acting like a shrew, they were stunned. Was she losing her mind?

The dog also had to save face. Seeing that his wife was not giving in, he immediately unleashed his full fighting power. In a few seconds, he threw her to the ground, bit Bai Xue’s throat, and scolded her.

Bai Xue was beautiful and would always pester Coke like a vixen. But today, she was different; she was possessed by a tigress and refused to obey!

The parents were fighting, and the three pups on the sidelines didn’t know which side to support.

The situation came out of nowhere, and no one really knew what was wrong with Bai Xue. Since returning from the United Base, it has been completely domesticated and has been living a peaceful life.

When they arrived at this land, Jiang Ning arranged everything for them to eat and drink. She never went fishing in the sea and never brought the children over.

Why was she suddenly acting out?

Huo Yishen was a trainer, and he had guessed what was going on.

He didn’t try to break up the fight but instead explained to Jiang Ning, “Bai Xue is trying to drive the pups away.”

What? Jiang Ning was stunned.

“Wolves and dogs are the same species, but there are significant differences in their nature…”

Dogs have been domesticated by humans for thousands of years, and with continuous evolution, they have become domestic animals, but wolves are still wild animals, and they are extremely intelligent.

Although Bai Xue lives with humans, the animal nature in her bones has not changed.

Reproduction and raising offspring are not the only instincts; developing independence and survival skills is also instinctual. But dogs, on the other hand, are more submissive; they are skilled in their connection and loyalty to humans.

Jiang Ning frowned. “Are you saying they’re fighting over how to raise the pups?”
