The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 593: Being Slapped in the Face

Chapter 593: Being Slapped in the Face

By the time Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen turned around, Doudou had already gone to do farm work.

Coke acted as the protector, while Bai Xue went to the military headquarters to find the four pups.

Everyone knew where Bai Xue and Coke belonged. They were already bold enough to roam the base as if they owned the place.

Even though craving meat is instinct, they wouldn’t dare provoke the Chief’s family. Besides, with the power of the ruthless couple. In a head-on clash, others might not even be their match.

However, the seriously ill patients hadn’t been discharged yet, and the medicine was running low.

Since she’d helped this far, Jiang Ning donated more herbs once again.

It had to be said, the way Rong Sanshao promoted Jiang Ning was a bit too obvious, but ordinary people only cared about results.

After the moth infestation, Jiang Ning’s status skyrocketed, and she was elevated to the highest pedestal.

As soon as she stepped outside, regardless of whether they knew her or not, everyone greeted her.

“Comrade Jiang.”

“Miss Jiang.”

“Captain Jiang.”

As soon as she entered the hospital, Jiang Ning looked up and saw Chief of Staff Si, Jiang Guanshan, and the two military guards who accompanied them.

She noticed that one of the young soldiers briefly glanced at her before quickly looking away.

She glanced over without showing any reaction.

He was young, cold-looking, and stood tall with a straight posture.

It reminded her of how Huo Yishen looked when he was younger. Youth really is something special.

To be at Chief of Staff Si’s side, this man must have seen all kinds of situations. His discipline and demeanor couldn’t possibly be lacking. It couldn’t be…

Jiang Ning quickly connected the dots. Could he be… Qin Mu?

She quickly noticed the resemblance between the young soldier and Qin Chuan.

This wasn’t just a big change; it was like a complete transformation.

In the blink of an eye, Qin Mu was already close to twenty. He was in his prime, full of energy. His tall and upright frame, sharp and defined facial features — he stood out like a young pine tree.

Standing at around 180 cm, his height was definitely outstanding in the apocalypse.

Qin Chuan must have worked hard to raise such an exceptional son.

Their eyes met, but neither of them spoke.

Jiang Guanshan greeted her first, “Comrade Jiang.”

Jiang Ning smiled and replied, “Chief Si, Director Jiang, what brings you to the hospital?”

“We weren’t adjusting well to the local environment, so we came to the hospital for some medicine.”

After some polite exchanges, Jiang Ning went to deliver the medicine.

As long as the illness isn’t too serious and doesn’t affect any organs, doctors won’t prescribe medicine anymore. They just tell patients to go home, get some rest, and let their immune system handle it.

There was nothing they could do; the hospital was seriously short on medicine.

The hospital director personally greeted Jiang Ning and discussed treatment plans for the critical patients.

After a year of working together, he was fully convinced by her abilities.

Besides having access to medicine, she came from a prestigious background, her medical skills were outstanding, and her ethics and character were even more admirable.

He also clearly understood that she would be joining the hospital in the future.

With that in mind, he couldn’t help but warm up to her and even looked forward to her arrival.

After all, she had lent a hand during several crises.

The director wasn’t the only one; the medical staff saw it clearly. She would be the future director.

So, they all got along particularly well.

At the hospital, Jiang Ning saw Ma Guangnian, who was giving advanced training to the medical staff.

That was the mission he had come to Fengcheng for.

Huacheng had assumed that Fengcheng, built from the ground up, would struggle at every step. Although the military high-ups hoped the two cities would merge, the moment they received Gu Tinglin’s handwritten letter, they knew full well he wasn’t coming.

So, the visiting group prepared for both possibilities.

Fengcheng’s joining Huacheng would be great for expanding China’s territory, but if Fengcheng insisted on independence, it wouldn’t harm China’s development, and Huacheng might even lend a hand.

And so, Chief of Staff Si brought along experts in medicine, industry, and agriculture—only to get metaphorically slapped in the face.

Though Fengcheng was small, its internal systems were more complete than Huacheng’s

It will surely become a gem of the end times.

With Fengcheng working so hard, Huacheng can’t afford to fall behind.

Jiang Ning quietly sat down to listen, feeling like she was back in school before the disasters hit.

Ma Guangnian’s lecture wasn’t complicated. It covered disaster relief and medical treatments after the apocalypse, such as acid smog, blood-colored sunlight, water pollution, soil parasites, and the latest threat—poisonous moths.

At noon, after class, Jiang Ning saw him back to the guesthouse and handed him a steaming bowl of chicken soup.

After bidding him farewell, she headed to the military headquarters to pick up Bai Xue.

The four pups had already shed its baby fat and started intense training right after recovering from the moth powder allergy.

With wolf genes, taming them wasn’t easy.

But as soon as Jiang Ning arrived, they all rushed toward her, ignoring their trainer completely.

“Woof!”

“Argh… woof!”

They’re carnivores, and though the little ones had forgotten their birth mother, they never forgot Jiang Ning.

The food here wasn’t like home, and the pups had slimmed down a lot, but it seemed their muscles were more solid.

They had a regiment, so Jiang Ning couldn’t feed them just anything. After getting her fill of petting, she left with Bai Xue.

Bai Xue hesitated, looking back several times, and then grew quiet.

Maybe it was missing the other three pups.

Wolves are pack animals, but Bai Xue drove the three pups away, likely for deeper reasons.

Every time they climbed the high slopes of the wasteland, Bai Xue would pause and stare off into the distance, lost in thought.

Coke would stay by its side, offering comfort and play.

Jiang Ning took Bai Xue to the farm, where she received a lot of care and greetings. Everyone looked at her with admiration and respect.

Maybe “admiration” wasn’t quite right.

It felt more like devotion, the kind that carried hope.

Jiang Ning thought to herself, maybe she really was up on a shrine now.

At the farm, she spotted a tall figure from afar, with a delicate, graceful one by his side.

Qin Mu came to see Doudou?

Doudou was working when Qin Mu snatched the hoe from her hand and worked energetically under the sun.

They chatted and laughed together, their smiles pure and captivating.

Even from behind, they looked like a perfect match.

Jiang Ning didn’t interrupt; she just watched for a while before getting busy elsewhere.

But not long after, Doudou came looking for her.

“Sister-in-law,” she said softly, “Th-this is Qin Mu, he came with the delegation from Huacheng.”

Qin Mu followed her over, his tanned skin making his teeth seem even whiter.

“Sister-in-law,” he greeted.

Jiang Ning studied him up close—he had the air of a real man now, no longer the little weakling from before.

“Xiao Mu,” she smiled, teasing, “Your dad calls me ‘little sister-in-law,’ but you’re calling me ‘sister-in-law’? Isn’t that confusing the generations?”

Qin Mu answered calmly, “Sister-in-law, I’m about the same age as Doudou. Since you’re her sister-in-law, I should call you that too.”

Well, it was clear where the genes came from. His thick skin was just like his father’s.

Doudou, on the other hand, looked a little uncomfortable and couldn’t help but glance at him.

Jiang Ning didn’t engage in banter with the young ones. “How’s your dad doing?”

The end times were brutal; the longer you lived, the fewer friends you had.

“My dad’s in Huacheng, doing his old job. Life’s been decent.”

He briefly mentioned the events after they parted in the new city’s villa area. Qin Chuan, along with his subordinates and their families, managed to leave Fengcheng just before the mass evacuation, but ran into a sandstorm and days of torrential rain on the way.

Separated, disease, death.

A journey of a few hundred kilometers turned into a nightmare. They nearly lost their lives several times, and by the time they reached Jiacheng, many from their group were gone.

Jiacheng’s base was chaotic, and Qin Chuan had to swallow his pride, starting everything over again.
