The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 618: I’ll Break All Your Legs

Chapter 618: I’ll Break All Your Legs

It took a few days, but the transport ship handover was finally completed.

Along with the recognition and rewards, a large sum of points was credited to their accounts.

Even though it was the coldest part of winter, the weather was sunny every day.

Still, nothing could stop the approach of the Spring Festival.

After over a decade of natural disasters, this year, more people than ever were looking forward to celebrating the New Year.

With the base undergoing a big leap forward, most of the residents had jobs, and there was a clear festive atmosphere.

After a year of hard work, Yu Changzheng gave the special salvage team a holiday, to set out again after the Spring Festival.

The team cheered; they could finally enjoy a long holiday to rest.

With the development of the base and their promotion in rank, the military not only assigned them dorms but gave them private rooms.

However, the team members had an unspoken understanding to continue living in the repurposed shipping containers.

It wasn’t because they disliked the red brick dorms, but rather because there were too many people living in the military camp. Everyone, whether they knew them or not, kept finding reasons to visit and make small talk, trying to subtly pry into the internal affairs of the group.

Without saying much, they all agreed to stick with the containers.

They kept the doors shut and pretended they weren’t in.

When they got bored, they’d just head to the farm to volunteer.

Jiang Ning treated everyone fairly, so she called the team over to have hotpot.

They ate to their heart’s content. “Sister Ning, do you think we should build red brick houses?”

Jiang Ning didn’t even look up. “You’ve saved up all those points, and you’re not getting married anytime soon. If you’ve got points and nowhere to spend them, why not build?”

So, they all went ahead and applied, even Xu Kaitai, who was tired of living in the military dorms.

Each household got 500 square meters, lined up in a row, and they agreed to be good neighbors.

When they returned from their next sea trip, they could throw a housewarming party.

As the Spring Festival grew closer, most of the people coming from the New Continent had settled in, except for the four. Their arrangements hadn’t been finalized yet.

Counting the days, it had already been half a month.

The four of them kept their patience, either working out or helping on the farm.

Finally, the day before New Year’s Eve, the military made their arrangements.

Zhang Chao was assigned to the City Hall, Zheng Weili was moved to the police station, Lu Yu stayed in the military office, and Ding Qi was assigned to the Military Defense Committee.

The arrangement may have looked random to the untrained eye, but those who understood saw the intent clearly.

Their military achievements were obvious, and even if they were newly assigned, their positions wouldn’t be low.

For example, Zheng Weili was appointed as Deputy Head of the Police Division, and would officially start after the Spring Festival.

The four had no objections and accepted the arrangements, moving from the guesthouse to their respective dorms in a rush to prepare for the New Year.

They had brought back personnel and supplies, and as a reward, the four of them received plenty of points, which they could use to exchange for goods at the central mall.

Jiang Ning brought over some daily necessities as gifts for their housewarming.

Zhang Chao and Lu Yu set up the stove and insisted on laying out a feast.

They invited not only Jiang Ning, Huo Yishen, Xu Kaitai, and the special salvage team members but also Rong Sanshao, and the core members from the original camp.

They had also been assigned decent jobs and were now thriving in their respective fields.

Roughly counted, they’d need at least five tables, which meant a lot of ingredients.

Jiang Ning waved her hand, telling them to head to the farm and the livestock farm to buy supplies directly, cutting out the middleman to save costs.

Their points were limited, so it wasn’t a feast of lavish meat dishes, but each table had four well-balanced dishes, which was already full of sincerity.

With Rong Sanshao’s loudspeaker, no one else had room to speak up.

He used egg drop soup as wine. “Come on, come on, we’re all from the Southern Military Base. It’s fate from past lives that brought us together today. Drink up—after this bowl, we’re all brothers and sisters who’ve lived through life and death.”

Jiang Ning curled her toes in secondhand embarrassment.

But Zhang Chao and Lu Yu were soon energized, their youthful spirits slowly woke up.

The three troublemakers were just one step away from holding cigarettes in their mouths.

After the welcome feast, the atmosphere was lively with laughter and chatter. The special salvage team decided to gather for a New Year’s Eve dinner, hoping to make it a big, festive celebration.

“Captain Huo, Sister Ning, are you coming?”

“Of course,” Jiang Ning replied cheerfully. “We have our own New Year’s Eve dinner at home, but we’ll come over to join you for a bit. Gotta save some room in our stomachs.”

With the whole base on holiday, the Spring Festival spirit was contagious. Everyone, whether they had food or not, was eager to celebrate.

Even those who were alone were actively forming groups, just to make the celebration feel more festive.

At the dog training base, the four pups with wolf genes rebelled against their confinement and managed to sneak off home for some extra meals.

The trainers were both amused and helpless—even chasing them all the way to the red-brick compound didn’t work.

Grandma Jiang couldn’t help but laugh. “Sorry for the trouble. If it’s okay, just let them stay here for the New Year. I’ll send them back after the holidays.”

As this was the Chief’s family, the trainer couldn’t object, not even if he wanted to.

So, the four pups successfully played the system.

But then the German Shepherd followed too and refused to leave.

Well, now that was awkward.

Jiang Ning glanced at the shameless pair, but the two were all lovey-dovey, cuddling and ignoring everyone else.

She figured that Ah Sha might very well become her future grandson-in-law, so she decided to keep him around too.

In total, there were ten hungry mouths to feed—apart from the youngest three, who hadn’t been weaned yet. The rest were all bottomless pits.

Only Jiang Ning, with her wealth, could afford to keep them.

Feeding them was one thing, but the howling at night almost drove Jiang Ning crazy.

The black German Shepherd seemed to have some American influences because it joined in the howling too.

Unable to take it anymore, she grabbed a broomstick and stormed out, her face fierce. “Howl one more time, and I’ll break all your legs!”

Grandma’s outburst made the four pups fall silent. Only the youngest one kept whining, and was quickly silenced by the others.

On New Year’s Eve morning, after feeding the ten hungry beasts, the family began preparing for the New Year’s Eve dinner.

Gu Tinglin and Shu Xueqing weren’t working and were especially excited about this year’s celebration, looking forward to spending the holiday with their kids. They came over early to help with the reunion dinner.

It felt like a fresh start with the whole family gathered for the Spring Festival.

There were fried dumplings, braised tofu with bitter melon, stewed chicken, stir-fried duck, and flame-drunk goose—everyone was busy and enjoying themselves.

Compared to Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen, Gu Tinglin and Shu Xueqing weren’t exactly the ones in charge of the cooking. The tofu they tried to make ended up cracking.

But no one cared—having fun was the most important thing.

The ten hungry mouths followed them around, but eventually, they were all locked in cages.

Suddenly, lively music filled the square, “Today is a good day, everything you wish for will come true…”

It was clear that giving power to He Tianming had been a wise decision.

Though many challenges had been faced this past year, the team’s efforts had solved them, far more effectively than if the military had tried to handle it on its own.

Professional tasks should be left to professionals.

Those who had criticized Gu Tinglin for his one-track decisions could only admit, grudgingly, that they were wrong.

Even those who had secretly grumbled about him supporting his daughter and son-in-law had to acknowledge that, while he did support them, the base’s success was ultimately thanks to his efforts.

Everyone had benefited. All they could do was acknowledge it—it was simply the way things were going.

What Jiang Ning didn’t know was that before the special salvage team returned, Gu Tinglin had hosted a military and political appreciation banquet.

Awards were given, and honors were presented.

At the banquet, He Tianming proposed a five-year development plan for Fengcheng, which stunned many attendees.

For the past half month, military and political leaders had been discussing the plan.

Some supported it, others opposed it.

In the end, it wasn’t announced, but Gu Tinglin already had his answer in mind.
