Chapter 8: Don’t Bother Me!

Why would such an uneducated person have some foreign novels propped on her bedside table?
To appear intelligent?
Did she really think that having these novels displayed on the side would make her appear sophisticated? Or did she think that she’d finally earn her spot in the Yao family if she simply looked the part?
Yao Ran suppressed the urge to snort, retracting her gaze. As if that would happen.
!!“Like you, I’ve been carried by the wrong family. I…I didn’t know anything about this, but my parents have always doted on me as if I truly did come from them.”
She took a deep breath, “I know you’re blaming me for taking everything from you, but it really wasn’t my intention. When my parents had realized what happened–what had been done–it was already too late. They loved me too much to let me go, and that’s why I stayed.”
“Even when they had brought you back, they made a promise that my position in the household will not change. I will still be their daughter like you are to them.”
“In the future, you will be known as the daughter of my second uncle from the countryside. That way, you’ll still be able to stay in the Yao family, despite our…differences.”
As soon as Yao Ran had finished speaking, she sighed. “I know it’s unfair. After all, you are their biological daughter, but there’s really nothing we can do about it. The Yao Family needs someone to step up, someone who is capable to handle all the societal pressures. And you, you’ve grown up in a…”
She paused, biting her lips.
“Are you done?”
Yao Tang’s face did not show any emotion besides impatience. Her hoarse voice had traces of annoyance and irritation–like a jaguar whose sleep had just been disturbed. “Look, I’m not interested in how you’ve come to the Yao Family, and how you’ve become their prized daughter.”
“I also couldn’t care less about what Yao Yuan and Qin Man are thinking. If that’s the only thing you came here for, then you’re welcome to leave.”
Hearing her call her parents by name, Yao Ran blinked in surprise.
Did she really not care?
“I know you’re mad at me. It’s just, I don’t want you to misunderstand,” she started. “We’ll be living under one roof from now on, so I hope that everyone could get along.”
“After all, that’s what our parents would’ve wanted to see.”
Seeing that she’s still silent, Yao Ran continued, “They’ve worked so hard to let us live a comfortable life. We shouldn’t add to their worries just because of this nonsense, and–”
“Yao Ran, if I were you, I’d just hide my tail between my legs and come back to where I came from.” She shrugged. “I wouldn’t use a fake bag and taunt people for using the real one.”
Yao Tang was far too lazy to deal with idiots like her. The last thing she needed was to lower her IQ even more.
However, she was right about one thing. The two of them would be living under the same roof from now on.
Even if she wanted to avoid this type of clash, she couldn’t.
Moreover, if she continued to be silent, Yao Ran would come to think that she was afraid, and she’d be even more arrogant. The best she could do was take her stance. If she was going to be a bitch about it, either way, there was no reason for her to go soft.
Yao Tang stared at the girl’s bloodshot eyes as her lips curled into a sneer. Taking a step forward, she pinched her chin and forced the young woman to face her.
While she made sure not to exude much strength, Yao Ran’s face was still scrunched up from the pain. “Yao Tang.” Her eyes widened. “What are you–what are you…”
She chuckled as her hand slowly stroked the back of her neck. Her eyes glinted fiercely.
Yao Ran shivered, paling. Even if she wanted to push her away, she knew that she couldn’t. After all, what would be a city girl’s strength be compared to someone who had carried logs for a living? “What are you doing?” she stuttered. “Let go, let go!”
At that moment, her entire soft facade had been lost.
She stared at her with so much disdain. Even Yao Tang had to smirk at the look. Interesting, so she finally decided to show her true colors.
“Listen!”
“Look, I don’t care about everything you mentioned. Yao Family this, Yao Family that–be their daughter, or whatever it is you want to be. Just don’t bother me, understand?” Her eyes flashed.
“If this happens again, I’ll–”
Yao Tang didn’t even bother to speak as she gestured her clenched hand towards her neck.
