Despite having had little chance to talk to Tai’Ren, the leader of the cat folk, Qingyi still formed a strong impression of him just by observing how he treated the other youngsters.

At first she resisted a little, but soon gave in with a soft purr, clinging to his arm that gripped her boob, her nails leaving deep marks on Qingyi’s pale skin.

"Nyan... nghnn~~" She moaned softly, her feline ears twitching gently. "You’re lucky I didn’t manage to capture you. I’m sure Father would give me the victory if I had a pleasure demon as prey!"

"Ah... would you really condemn your future husband to such a horrible death?" Qingyi asked, placing a soft kiss on her lips.

"Yes, Nyan!" She gave an excited shout, drawing a sigh of defeat from him.

She spoke with such certainty that Qingyi could hardly tell if she was joking or not.

After a few more moments, Linyue led him to the highest part of the huge palace, in front of a steel door.

"Just go up. Father is waiting outside. I’ll take care of the prey I caught this morning, hehehe," she giggled before leaving cheerfully.

Hesitating briefly, Qingyi opened the door, entering a seemingly endless staircase that climbed up the trunk of the thick tree that the palace was built around.

He climbed for several minutes, counting more than a thousand steps until he finally reached the top, next to the enormous skull of a canid creature.

In front of this creature’s skull stood an imposing and powerful figure, his broad, strong shoulders decorated with the skin of a tiger as a cape.

Tai’Ren turned around, a gentle smile taking over his manly, scarred face.

"Long Qingyi greets father-in-law," Qingyi put his fists together, bowing respectfully.

"I can see that you have made great progress in understanding your lineage and affinities. Congratulations." Tai’Ren slapped Qingyi hard on the shoulder, a small pulse of Qi coursing through the young man’s body.

Qingyi barely had time to react, let alone resist that pulse of Qi.

After a short moment, Tai’Ren showed a satisfied expression and gestured with his hands.

Two chairs and a small table appeared next to it, with a bottle of expensive liquor and two glasses already on it.

"Have some with your father-in-law, son-in-law," Tai’Ren said, serving himself and Qingyi, who sat on the opposite side of the small table.

"Do you know which beast this is?" Tai’ren asked Qingyi, although he already knew the answer.

"No, father-in-law." Qingyi shook his head.

"It’s a divine beast, but not the ancestral divine beast, not the one that gave birth to our people. Just a type of beast that is above even the mythical beasts."

Qingyi couldn’t hide a trace of surprise on his face. "Don’t these only exist in the celestial heaven?"

"Yes, they should only exist in the celestial sky. Yet three of them existed here." Tai’Ren took a long sip of liquor.

"One was killed by my ancestor in a coalition with the ancestors of many other peoples, another by the ancestor of the dragon people, and the last by the ancestor of the fox people."

"This was the three-eyed scarlet divine wolf, killed over a million years ago. A being whose power would be enough to level the entire immortal heaven if it existed today."

"I see... but why is father-in-law telling me this?" Qingyi asked, taking a sip of the liquor, feeling the strong taste dominate his tongue.

"No particular reason. I’ve just heard that you’re interested in the divine beast tournament to have a chance of contacting the fox people. That would be good to know if that’s your goal." Tai’Ren stood up and walked to the edge of the colossal branch where they were standing.

"I also heard that you come from the outside lands and that one of the Gold King’s daughters is already your wife. Do you plan to take Linyue from this place with you?"

Qingyi hesitated briefly, but decided that there was no point in lying to someone like Tai’Ren. "Yes, father-in-law. I plan to leave as soon as I’ve settled everything I have to settle with the fox people."

Honestly, he was a little surprised at how much Tai’ren already knew about him, but it was understandable.

As the leader of a powerful people, Tai’Ren naturally had many informants in every corner of his territory.

The moment he chose Qingyi, he probably sent his spies to collect every piece of information available about him.
