Chapter 408: 408 - I will bring death to your enemies.
The moment he swallowed that pill, David Valemont’s entire face darkened.
His eyes went to the floor and his knees trembled.
He was held in place only by his wife and daughter, who carried him to bed.
What he felt was pain.
Intense, hellish pain, dominating every drop of his being.
His mana heart burned, pumping absurd amounts of energy around his body.
But that wasn’t all.
His dry muscles swelled, his brittle hair gained strength, and even his skin became clear.
"Didn’t I tell you my hubby was amazing? Hehehe." Isabel laughed excitedly, throwing herself into Qingyi’s arms, who watched David’s eyes close.
The pill had taken the first step, spreading a powerful healing power throughout David Valemont’s body.
Now, it all depended on how well the King would be able to use that energy.
David would probably not recover to his full power immediately, as he had spent many months weakened, but at the very least, he should be able to be strong enough to hold his own body weight.
Suddenly, David’s eyes opened.
His mana spread out in a shockwave, and a deep vapor left his lips.
He raised his face to Qingyi before looking at the bishop.
"Leave, I want some time alone with my family," David said coldly.
His voice carried a little more strength than before, his clouded mind quickly gaining clarity.
"Your Majesty, I!"
"Now. You can leave through the door or the window. You choose," David cut coldly, ignoring the bishop’s complaints.
He had heard enough from that corrupt son of a bitch.
The man had only not joined the traitors because the church would not allow him to.
Now, David had more important things to deal with.
With a fuming look, the bishop withdrew, followed by the doctor.
Soon, only Qingyi, Sofia, Isabel, and David remained there.
"You’re not fully recovered, dear, sleep a little longer first..." Sofia approached her husband, grabbing his arm.
"I’m recovered enough." David shook his head, approaching Qingyi.
The two men stood face to face, eye to eye, studying each other.
"You have the look of a great warrior. What is your name?" David asked.
"Long Qingyi. You also seem to be a great warrior," Qingyi replied, bowing respectfully. "Isabel has told me many stories, and I hope that one day I can have a friendly duel with you, father-in-law."
"One day." David flashed a bitter smile, pulling Qingyi into a bear hug.
"Sofia told me that you killed Count Nirm and saved our family from destruction. Now, you’ve even saved my own life. For that, I am eternally grateful," David said, before signaling for everyone to follow him.
In his throne room, many powerful nobles, who had already returned after fleeing the siege of the capital, were heatedly discussing the bishop.
They were unable to hide the shock on their faces when David appeared.
The King walked toward his throne and sat down casually.
His eyes swept coldly over everyone there, and his fingers tapped against the stone that formed his ancestral throne.
"Surprised that I didn’t die?" David asked coldly.
"N-no, my lord, not at all!" One of the nobles was the first to take a step back.
His words were met with a look of contempt from David.
Shaking his head, he simply focused his eyes on Qingyi, signaling for the handsome young man to step forward.
"While you filthy cowards fled, this young man not only defended my family, but even killed Count Nirm. Alone, he suppressed an army of eight thousand men."
The moment David’s words echoed through the throne room, many muffled murmurs arose.
They had already heard rumors about this young hero.
The Easterner with whom Isabel had fled on her journey to serve as a nun, a powerhouse no less than the ninth ring.
So that was this young man?
"As a reward for such an act, I will allow his marriage to my daughter, Isabel Valemont. I will give him the title of the principality, along with control of what remains of the royal army and the mission to eliminate the traitors."
The words that followed only brought further shock.
Give control of the royal army to an unknown young man who probably knew absolutely nothing about the kingdom?
Had the King suddenly gone mad?
They could even understand the marriage and the noble title, but giving such power to Qingyi was simply unacceptable!
Many questioning voices rose.
Nobles demanded justice and presented their own candidates.
But what could they do?
Even the most powerful among them was only at the eighth ring.
The only experts of similar power to the ninth ring there were David Valemont and that young man, Long Qingyi.
Honestly, Qingyi himself was surprised by this.
He didn’t care much for the idea of commanding an army and was already planning to get rid of all those who threatened his father-in-law and mother-in-law, so he didn’t care much about any of it.
It was just that, as many of those nobles said, Qingyi had no knowledge of the geography of that place, possessing only a small amount of knowledge of military strategy.
But deep down, Qingyi understood what David Valemont wanted to do.
The King himself should be the one to take control of his army, either him or his heir, who was now studying in the Rose Empire.
Unfortunately, David was still too weak and would need at least a few months to recover, while his son would never arrive in time.
Among all those corrupt nobles, none had the strength to guarantee victory.
Qingyi, on the other hand, was a talented young man.
Even if he was not a follower of Auranys, he was still someone who had defeated the most powerful swordsman in the kingdom and, single-handedly, wiped out an army of eight thousand men.
Who better than him to lead his army?
Even if he lacked experience, the raw power and morale brought by his presence should be enough.
"Any problem with such an arrangement, son-in-law?" David asked.
"No, father-in-law. I will bring death to your enemies. Take this as a dowry for your daughter’s hand," Qingyi clasped his fists.
"You have already given me too much, young man. I am only getting myself further into debt, hahaha."
