Chapter 413 - Betrayal of humanity
Chapter 413: 413 - Betrayal of humanity
"What do you think of them?" David Valemont asked, walking alongside Qingyi.
The king wore casual, light robes, as if he had just woken up, carrying a small metal container filled with rum in his right hand.
They stood on a platform in the capital’s main, enormous barracks.
In front of them, tens of thousands of soldiers gathered.
There were almost fifty thousand of them, all the elite of the elite, provided by the southern allies who still remained loyal to David.
They were nothing compared to what the kingdom’s army was at its peak, when it had just over four hundred thousand soldiers.
But still, it was a powerful force, both because of the individual power of each soldier and the experience they carried.
Honestly, Qingyi didn’t think these soldiers would be of much use to him.
In the end, the battle would be decided between him and Lord Belgrath. Those below would be nothing more than insects ready to be exterminated.
But of course, not everything could be so simple.
Qingyi could win the battle alone, but soldiers were still needed to dominate and control the terrain. In the wars of this world, this was their main use.
Qingyi’s eyes scanned each soldier individually, observing each piece of steel armor that protected them and each high-quality sword.
This was a trained professional army, not just any feudal militia.
"They’re good," Qingyi finally replied, flashing a big smile as he received admiring glances, even from old and experienced soldiers.
That felt good.
"Come on, I’ll introduce you to your officers. They’ll organize the army to march, Belgrath’s patience must be running out," David said.
The king took a sip of rum and offered the container to Qingyi, who also took a sip.
Before the two left that place, however, they were interrupted by a distant voice.
"My King! My King!"
A servant climbed onto the platform, carrying a letter in his hands. His voice was broken and breathless.
He ran up to David and knelt down, offering the message.
"Calm down, young man." David turned around, took the letter, and read it, his face immediately took on a deep frown.
"Orcs... green-skinned sons of bitches!" David growled, clutching the paper tightly in his hands.
"Son-in-law, do you know what an Orc is?" David asked, gritting his teeth and waving his hands for the servant to leave.
"I’ve heard rumors about them. They say they’re big and strong, violent and not very intelligent," Qingyi replied.
"Good," David smiled bitterly, grabbing Qingyi’s shoulders. "Prepare your sword, green blood is rotten and corrosive."
Without giving Qingyi time to respond, David turned, facing the officers at the front of the army.
"Belgrath is marching towards us! He has betrayed humanity and allied himself with orc pigs! We will kill him and scatter his guts across the capital! We will wash away this shame from our people!"
David roared, answered by a powerful battle cry.
"Prepare to march," David ordered his officers before beckoning Qingyi to follow him.
"Ugh... it sounds disgusting," Ruxue’s sweet, mature voice echoed in Qingyi’s mind.
"It is disgusting," Qingyi shook his head.
Well, he had always wanted to kill orcs.
Unfortunately, there were no orcs on Earth, and even if there were, he would not have had the power to do so at that time.
Fortunately, the same was not true for this world. With a sigh, he followed David silently.
The rest of the preparations did not take long, and soon, he had to leave with the army, flying a few hundred meters above the ground.
He was a little apprehensive about leaving Isabel in the capital, but she needed some time with her mother.
Besides, she was not really at risk, as Qingyi had given her a pendant with defensive arrays, capable of teleporting her directly to the world of the mind if she were in danger.
Following Qingyi and organizing the marching armies were his officers, David Valemont’s trusted men, about fifty of them.
Only one was flying alongside Qingyi.
He was a general who had only recently reached the ninth ring and who would replace the last guardian of the kingdom, killed by Belgrath in an ambush.
He was a tall, honest, and quiet man with short black hair, blue eyes, and fair skin.
"How far are we from Belgrath’s forces?" Qingyi asked, turning his face to the general.
"No more than two weeks, Your Highness. Belgrath set out many days ago, and orcs are fast."
"Hmm... I don’t think they’re very interested in ambushes, are they?"
"No, Your Highness. Orcs don’t ambush, they just attack head-on," the general shook his head.
"Good. . ." Qingyi flashed a big smile.
And so, the journey continued.
They passed through large forests and lush groves, full of mana beasts.
They were different creatures from the ones Qingyi used to encounter on the eastern continent, though very similar.
Only after about twelve days of travel did the army stop.
They were on the edge of a large canyon in a desert region in the center of the kingdom.
That was the fastest passage Belgrath could use to reach the capital.
Since he was accompanied by an orc army, Qingyi’s officers stated that Belgrath would likely follow that route.
So, the army began to organize.
They surrounded the passage of just over two kilometers, setting up defensive barricades and preparing the camp.
Qingyi stayed in the central tent, sitting at the end of a huge wooden table, with his officers surrounding him.
Honestly, it still felt a little strange for him to be in that position.
He had seen the third prince and current king of the Blue Sea Kingdom in it. He had seen his wife, Tang Biyue, in it.
But this was the first time he himself was there, surrounded by competent officers who took his words as law.
At the center of it all was a huge map of the kingdom.
It was already marked with the positions from the latest reports Qingyi had received from the escorts he had sent north.
Qingyi stood up, observing the markings carefully.
Belgrath’s armies should be no more than a hundred kilometers away.
At the orcs’ marching speed, it shouldn’t take them more than a day to get there.
Qingyi’s lips parted, ready to say something. But before he could, his body froze.
A powerful murderous intent fell upon his entire army and his lips parted in a broad smile.
The enemy was coming.
