Chapter 874 - No room for error
Chapter 874: 874 - No room for error
Qingyi remained floating high in the skies for a long moment, his hands clasped elegantly behind his back as he reflected.
The icy winds of the high altitudes lashed against his robes, yet he seemed oblivious to it all, lost deep in his own thoughts.
He had already studied, with meticulous care, a map of the Heavenly Demon’s palace, known to many as the Black Palace.
That map had been drawn at the cost of countless spies’ lives, detailing with impeccable precision even the deepest reaches of the palace.
The only unknown region was the Heavenly Demon’s personal vault. Even so, the Fate Readers had already confirmed that it was there he kept the body of the Divine Sword Fairy.
Qingyi would press forward with that location etched into his mind, teleporting straight into the most heavily guarded heart of the entire Demon Empire’s territory, slipping past formations designed to shatter even celestial emperors.
A single mistake, and it would be the end.
Qingyi closed his eyes, focusing his mind and channeling every ounce of his will into a single, unwavering point.
He could not afford to fail.
When his eyelids lifted again, he was already sinking into a spatial fold, immediately sensing the spatial-blocking arrays that enveloped the palace like an invisible web.
There were roughly thirty main arrays in total, engulfing the entire palace region in an overwhelming mesh of restrictive Qi.
Beyond these lay the secondary arrays, which covered smaller areas but possessed a far more intense level of power.
Two of them stood in Qingyi’s own bedroom, five in Tianjin’s office, and in the area with the highest concentration of all, the secret vault of the Celestial Orthodox Martial Alliance, there were fifty.
Each of those arrays held the power to detect and unleash an attack devastating enough to injure even a celestial emperor, and most of them existed to contain even the most skilled practitioners of spatial Qi.
Qingyi could not falter.
In rapid succession, he tore through eighty spatial blockade arrays, each layer parting silently before his will.
His body materialized an instant later at the very center of the vault, surrounded by incomparable riches piled high atop golden shelves and jade pedestals.
The moment his feet touched the polished stone floor, a gentle shockwave rippled outward through the room, setting the surrounding shelves trembling and coaxing a soft clink from the jade ornaments arranged upon them.
"Ah... I managed to get through without triggering any of the arrays," Qingyi murmured, scratching his chin with a faint smile of satisfaction curling his lips.
Of course, it wasn’t only the spatial arrays that protected that place. There were also presence-detection arrays, far more subtle and treacherous.
The moment he reached the Heavenly Demon’s vault, he would likely have between five and ten seconds before the arrays confirmed his presence and triggered the alarm.
Qingyi stood still, counting the seconds in his mind, his breathing calm and even as he felt the dense Qi that permeated the air inside the vault like a slow, humming current.
After exactly thirty seconds, the space in front of him ripped open, and the panting figure of Tianjin emerged, already shouting, "Who dares?—"
The words died in Tianjin’s throat as his wide eyes fell upon Qingyi.
"You..."
"I’m sorry for startling you, father-in-law. I finished my preparations and then decided to test my abilities against the alliance’s arrays..."
"I am absolutely certain that I will be able to break through the Black Palace’s arrays and rescue the Divine Sword Fairy and her soul!"
Qingyi bowed respectfully, clasping his fist in a formal salute.
For a moment, Tianjin froze, his expression wavering between relief and disbelief.
The next moment, he pulled Qingyi into a tight embrace, letting out a hearty laugh that reverberated off the walls of the vault.
"Hahaha, well done, son-in-law! I knew I could count on you, hahahaha!" Tianjin nearly crushed Qingyi in his arms, clapping him hard on the back.
"Ah... when do you want to get started? I can prepare a ship right now to sneak you to the southern borders of the Demon Empire’s territory. From there, the rest is up to you."
Tianjin released Qingyi and, with a wave of his hand, transported them both out of the vault. Their bodies flickered into existence within his office an instant later.
Tianjin couldn’t wield spatial Qi himself, but he had access to various arrays that allowed him to teleport freely throughout his own palace.
"I want to wait at least another month, father-in-law... we still have time. Is the Divine Blacksmith all right?" Qingyi shook his head, sinking into a large sofa.
It was comfortable, and he had expended a considerable amount of Qi to break through all those arrays. He needed a moment of rest before he could continue training in his methods.
"He’s... well... under control. We had to place him into a sort of induced coma, since his rage won’t subside until he has confirmation that his daughter is safe." Tianjin sighed heavily, exhaustion etched into every line of his face.
He drew a bottle of liquor from his spatial ring, pouring a little for himself and for Qingyi, the amber liquid catching and reflecting the flickering glow of the surrounding oil lamps.
"I understand... I wouldn’t be any different if it were little Lingxi in his daughter’s place. Not even a thousand deaths will atone for the Heavenly Demon’s putrid karma." Qingyi clenched his teeth, the glass trembling slightly between his fingers.
Honestly, he didn’t feel hatred toward the Heavenly Demon. He didn’t consider him worthy of his anger.
What Qingyi truly felt toward him was simply disgust.
The Heavenly Demon was a repugnant man, revolting to the very core.
It was no exaggeration to say that he embodied one of the primary manifestations of virtually all the evil that existed in the celestial realms.
Of course, there were many evil people, even within the Celestial Orthodox Martial Alliance itself, and countless more scattered throughout the celestial world.
Still, none of them came even close to the Heavenly Demon’s level.
He was the greatest evil, the true evil, far surpassing anything the ordinary unorthodox factions could ever dream of embodying.
Qingyi took a long sip of the liquor Tianjin had offered him, the warmth of the drink sliding down his throat and settling deep in his stomach.
"Can you isolate certain parts of the alliance’s spatial arrays? I want to train much more before the operation begins." He turned to Tianjin, who nodded without hesitation.
Nothing about that rescue could go wrong.
