Chapter 545
Chapter 545: “A Dark Elf?”
Joy is experienced differently by different beings. Some find joy in doing good deeds, others in witnessing the joy of others, some in trivial matters, and some in indulging their desires.
Machi, however, found joy in following her instincts. She was, in her own words, magnanimous, not hating her enemies or those who opposed her, not even resenting those who might kill her. For her, life was a plaything, and she found joy in their suffering, despair, pleas for mercy, and rage. Now, Machi felt this joy, having seemingly killed a rising star of the human race, a hero admired by both the Divine and Demon Races. She imagined the pain of those who loved him, their cries of despair, and she wanted to tell them personally that she had killed their beloved. She would revel in their sorrow and anger.
“Hehe…hee hee…hahaha…!” Machi laughed, unable to contain herself.
However…
“Swish!”
A whooshing sound and a sudden, silent surge of energy from behind made Machi’s laughter freeze, a strong sense of danger flooding her.
Without hesitation, Machi ducked.
At that moment, a sword light flashed.
“Clang—!” A cold sword light cut through the dark curtain around Machi.
“Rip!” The dark curtain, cut cleanly in two by the shining blade, lost its defensive power.
Fortunately, it had slightly delayed the attack, giving Machi time to duck, the sword light grazing the spot where her neck had been a moment ago.
“Rip!” Another tearing sound. This time, it was the sound of fabric ripping. The sword had cut through her hood and robe, shredding them.
Machi, exposed, scrambled away.
“[Flying Star]!”
The figure who had appeared behind her, unleashing that deadly strike, now cast magic.
A meteor shower of small stars bombarded Machi.
“Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang—!” Machi was struck repeatedly, as if pummeled by countless fists.
“Ugh…!” She cried out, sent flying, and crashed to the ground, rolling several times before coming to a stop.
“Cough…!” Machi coughed, clutching her body in pain, and struggled to get up.
“You…!” Machi looked at her attacker, a young man holding the sealed Holy Sword.
It was Shien.
Shien looked at Machi. In the darkness, her robe was shredded, her alluring body completely exposed, covered in dirt from rolling on the ground, her long, black hair disheveled, covering half her face.
Shien whistled, glancing at her naked form. “Nice body. No wonder you’re not afraid to run around naked.” He hadn’t expected this Apostle to be wearing nothing but a robe.
Machi instinctively covered herself, then dropped her hands. “How are you unharmed?” She stared at Shien, confused. She knew the power of her [Enmity Thunderstorm]. Even with defensive skills and resistance skills, no one should be able to withstand her level nine magic unscathed, unless they had maxed-out resistance skills. But that was impossible. Her magic not only had attack power, but also a curse. To completely avoid being harmed, one needed both maxed-out [Magic Resistance] and [Abnormal Status Resistance]. Even a level-limit expert couldn’t have both.
“Did you use teleportation to dodge?” Machi was puzzled. “No, I felt it connect. My magic definitely hit you.” She wouldn’t have let her guard down otherwise.
Indeed, her magic had hit Shien. Unfortunately…
“Unless it’s a transcendent-level attack, or a Unique Skill, my [Inner Manifestation of Heaven’s Decree] won’t let me be harmed.” Shien said, his voice laced with sarcasm. “Seeing you laughing so happily, I almost felt bad interrupting, but you looked so unguarded, I couldn’t resist.”
Shien had attacked without hesitation. This woman didn’t deserve his mercy. It was just a pity he missed.
“Your sense of danger is quite sharp.” Shien taunted. “Is it because you’ve been a rat in the shadows for too long?” He was clearly trying to provoke her, retaliating for her earlier provocation.
But… “Perhaps.” Machi seemed to regain her composure, chuckling. “Unlike you, Earl Buztout, who can befriend Demon Lords and evil gods, we are targeted and hunted by these powerful beings. We naturally have to be more alert.”
Machi waved her staff, and magic power washed over her like water, cleaning the dirt from her skin. Then she tossed her long, black hair back, her naked body completely exposed before Shien.
However, when Shien saw her face, his eyes widened.
Lid, who had slid down from the wall, also saw Machi’s true face, and its expression turned grim.
It was a stunningly beautiful face, her features exquisite, almost perfect, forming a goddess-like visage. Her beauty rivaled even Sophie, the Elven Queen.
However, it wasn’t her beauty that caught Shien and Lid’s attention, but her pointed ears.
“Are you an elf…?” Shien asked, surprised.
But someone immediately denied it.
“No, she’s not an elf.” The fluffy, mysterious little beast reappeared on Shien’s head. Lid stared at Machi and said, “Black hair, crimson eyes, pointed ears… There’s no mistake. She’s a Dark Elf.”
Machi burst into laughter, not the calm chuckle from before, but a sharp, ear-piercing laugh, as if all the negative emotions in the world had converged.
“Allow me to reintroduce myself.” A wicked smile appeared on Machi’s lips. “I am Machi. As that Beast Demon said, a Dark Elf. The last Dark Elf in this world.”
