“Who was that? Who attacked me secretly?” The young man who had fallen off the horse flew into a fury as he looked around angrily to find the culprit.
But there was only one person in the vicinity, and he was still lying seemingly unconscious on the ground with a clear footprint on his clothes.
“Yang Feng, what’s happened to you? How did you end up in a pile of feces?” teased the other aristocratic young men who were riding in front of him.
Third Sister rode back on her horse and said, “Yang Feng, how did you suddenly end up falling off your horse for no reason?”
Yang Feng looked around indignantly and finally ended up glaring fiercely at Ye Sheng as he said, “This lowly commoner must have frightened my horse!”
In his anger, he raised his foot to kick Ye Sheng once again.
PIAK!
Just then, a whip lashed out in front of him, and Yang Feng took a step back.
“Ye Lin’er, what are you doing?” asked Yang Feng unhappily.
Third Sister, Ye Lin’er, got off her horse and walked nearer to Ye Sheng to take a closer look. “This looks like my Twelfth Brother. What’s he doing here?”
All the other aristocrats were surprised. “Twelfth Brother? One of Lord Ye’s sons?”
“Since he’s someone from Ye Manor, why is he dressed so poorly?”
“His aura is very weak too, so he’s clearly no martial artist. You mean there’s a child in Ye Manor who doesn’t learn martial arts?” Yang Feng was not convinced.
Ye Lin’er glared at him and replied, “Do you think I’d simply claim anybody as my younger brother? He’s not very well liked by Father and isn’t anybody important within the manor, but he’s still my younger brother after all. Yang Feng, where did this footprint come from?” asked Ye Lin’er as she pointed at the obvious footprint on Ye Sheng’s chest.
Yang Feng scoffed coldly and refused to acknowledge that he’d done it. “How would I know?”
Ye Lin’er looked at how Yang Feng’s face was covered with feces and felt so disgusted. She waved a hand and said, “Forget it then, you’d better go home and take a good bath. Since he’s my younger brother, I’ll take him home.”
With that, Ye Lin’er pulled Ye Sheng up from the ground, flung him onto her horse’s back, and left with the rest of the aristocrats.
Only Yang Feng was left behind in a fury. He angrily destroyed several trees before quietly going back home.
Ye Sheng closed his eyes and breathed weakly on the horse’s back as he continued to use the Molting Spell on himself, and nobody noticed anything amiss.
Since there was more than one person on the horse, Ye Lin’er didn’t make it gallop quickly. She just let it clop along and started chatting with the other young men traveling with her.
“Lord Ye is back home, so Lin’er, I think you’re going to get scolded again,” teased one of them as he poked Ye Lin’er exactly where it hurt the most.
“Tsk, who cares? At most I’ll just get scolded. I have the support of my mother and grandmother, so I’m not afraid,” replied Ye Lin’er with a scoff.
“It’s normal to be reprimanded every once in a while. Who among us doesn’t get scolded from time to time? Everyone in Xianyang says that we’re a bunch of good-for-nothings who embarrass our ancestors. But who cares about that? As long as we’re happy, it’s good enough,” said another young man coolly.
“Exactly. There are already so many woes in the world, but we were born to live a life of enjoyment. Since the Lord of Hades allowed us to be reborn into such a wonderful fate, then don’t you think we’d be disappointing him if we didn’t enjoy ourselves?” said a slightly plump man among them.
“Ha, ha, ha! Lin Jie is right. We were born into the top 10 percent of society, so why bother working hard? We should just enjoy ourselves and live our lives without having to worry about anything.”
“Exactly. Those who are born into high society but still want to work so hard must have a screw loose somewhere. They don’t know how to enjoy themselves at all. Practicing martial arts is important, but, with sufficient resources, we’ll still probably make it to Inborn Level in the future. When that happens, we’ll just be around 100 years old and we’ll inherit assets from our families. We’re going to live such leisurely lives.”
The aristocrats’ conversations were flippant and unrestrained.
“All of you just want to eat and drink and wait to die, but I want to train in martial arts and become an immortal someday,” said Ye Lin’er unhappily.
“Become an immortal in martial arts? Ye Lin’er, don’t you think you’re thinking too much? Your father, Lord Ye, may be the top immortal among the Twelve Great Immortals, but you didn’t inherit any genes for cultivating martial arts from him.” The plump man, Lin Jie, immediately shot her down.
“Shut up! I’ve just became a disciple to a great master, and he said that my gifting isn’t poor. It’s only that my father doesn’t put in enough effort in teaching me,” roared Ye Lin’er in reply as her embarrassment turned to rage.
“Oh, really? And where does this latest Master of yours hail from?” All the aristocrats burst out laughing loudly.
Ye Sheng continued to listen to their conversations silently and couldn’t help but feel tickled as well. Ye Lin’er had gone around becoming a disciple to too many masters over the last few years. If she hadn’t reached 30 Masters yet, she had claimed at least 20 Masters.
Every time she found a new Master, she would be very excited, but she would never be able to last long with that Master. Eventually, First Madam stopped worrying about this anymore and allowed Ye Lin’er to just go round and find whichever Master she wanted.
Even though Ye Sheng hadn’t asked about the happenings of the house, he had heard the servants talk about this before.
Ye Lin’er said, “You guys can go ahead and laugh at me, but I’m not going to tell you who it is. I can only tell you that his surname is Bai, and he’s a handsome and elegant man. Also, he’s definitely capable enough to teach me until I can cultivate to become an immortal.”
Ye Sheng stiffened. “His surname is Bai, he’s handsome and elegant, and he definitely can help Ye Lin’er to become an immortal?”
That sounded like she was describing the Ninth Fox Immortal, Bai Yutian. But didn’t Bai Yutian have a feud with Lord Ye? Why would he take Ye Lin’er as his disciple?
“So when will you let all of us meet this amazing Immortal Bai?” asked one of them.
Ye Lin’er shook her head and replied, “You can forget about that. This time, I’m going to hide my Master, and I won’t let any of you discover him. Otherwise you’re going to disturb his peace.”
“All right now, we’ve reached the city gates. I’m not going to stick around and chat, let’s all go home.” Ye Lin’er waved her hand decisively and entered the city of Xianyang.
…
Once inside Ye Manor, First Madam was overjoyed that Ye Lin’er was back. But when she noticed the supposedly unconscious Ye Sheng, she frowned and asked, “How did you run into him?”
Ye Lin’er replied calmly, “I met him on our way back. Yang Feng kicked him in the chest, and since he’s someone from the Ye family after all, I brought him home.”
First Madam muttered coldly, “He’s just a useless bum. Since he died from getting kicked, why did you bother bringing him back?”
Ye Lin’er replied, “He’s just fainted, so we can still save him. Besides, Father is now at home. Yang Feng is a douchebag, but if he ends up being guilty of kicking one of Lord Ye’s sons to death, he will be punished. I don’t like him, but the Yang family supports Elder Brother after all.”
First Madam was pleased to hear this and nodded. “I didn’t expect you to think so deeply. You have indeed matured. Your older brother is out there, and we need the support of the Yang family to keep the other brothers in check. You’ve definitely done the right thing. As for this piece of trash, get the servants to send him back to his little courtyard. As long as he’s not dead, it’s fine.”
“Mother, you can make the arrangements. I’m going to go over to greet Father,” said Ye Lin’er nonchalantly.
“Go on then. Remember to speak nicely to your father and gain his favor. Don’t quarrel with him, all right?” instructed First Madam.
“Got it…” Ye Lin’er turned and left.
First Madam now finally turned her attention to Ye Sheng. Her expression was distant, and her eyes clouded over, as if she was thinking about something else.
She suddenly stuck her hand out to turn Ye Sheng’s face to the left and right as she quietly said, “You look just like that demoness mother of yours. She was so good at seducing others. If she hadn’t moved into the manor back then, I wouldn’t have lost all his attention. But too bad, you came from an improper background and ended up dying from an Inner Battle Demonic Spell, leaving behind this piece of trash who has to live cautiously all the time. It really makes me feel so happy inside.”
Ye Sheng’s heart trembled. His mother was murdered?
“But don’t worry, I won’t kill your son, because when I see him, I think of you. Your most precious son now lives with no dignity at all, and that makes me even happier than actually killing him. Of course, I know about Hu Mei picking on him. But I’m not going to stop her, and I’m going to use her to continue torturing your son. It makes me so, so happy. But it’s too bad that even after you’ve died, I didn’t get to use any of those Reincarnation Sect manuals. You should have passed them on to your son.” First Madam walked around Ye Sheng looking carefully at him and inspecting him, but she didn’t discover anything untoward. Ye Sheng’s aura was way too weak. He definitely didn’t look anything like a martial artist.
“Men, take Ye Sheng back to his little courtyard. Also, call the doctor to come and check on him and make sure that’s he’s well and healthy. I’m the First Madam of this house, so I cannot neglect the health of any of Lord Ye’s children,” yelled First Madam in a loud voice.
