Chapter 313: The Titans Counterattack (2)
Chapter 313: The Titans Counterattack (2)
It took Amon several days to dissolve the storm cloud hanging over Yue's heart.
Anemos' escape had wounded her pride far more deeply than she cared to admit. She had been so certain—so absolute in her grasp—that his slipping through her fingers felt less like a tactical failure and more like a personal betrayal of her own power.
For someone who bent spirits to her will and reshaped battlefields with a whisper, the notion of "almost" was unbearable.
She brooded in silence at first, her frustration curdling into self-reproach.
Amon, however, understood her better than she realised. He did not confront her with lectures or hollow reassurances. Instead, he coaxed her out and back into the living world.
They wandered through the quieter districts of Solfea at dusk, where lanternlight shimmered across half-repaired streets. He took her beyond the city walls to rolling hills where the wind carried no scent of ash or ruin.
They rested, laughed over street food from stubborn vendors who had reopened despite the devastation, and watched artisans rebuild shattered storefronts with stubborn determination. And when the weight in her eyes lingered still, Amon dispelled it in more private ways… Giving her joy at night.
The intimacy was not merely physical; it was a steady, unwavering reassurance that her worth was not defined by a single failure.
Slowly, the tightness in her shoulders eased.
The sharp edge in her gaze softened. By the time the week had passed, Yue had shed her gloom like a discarded cloak.
Now the pair strolled side by side along Eshon's main thoroughfare.
The city still bore scars from the recent destruction—collapsed towers mid-restoration, scaffolding embracing fractured walls, spirit-lanterns illuminating temporary shelters—but life pulsed stubbornly through its veins.
Merchants called out their wares. Children darted between crates of stone and timber. Knights and magicians maintained order with their patrols and unwavering presence.
Yue walked with renewed composure, her silver-blue robes catching the afternoon light as if the world itself acknowledged her return to form. After all, she had yet to relinquish her title as Elune House Lord.
The mantle still rested upon her shoulders... until she could find a worthy successor.
She was, after all, now the Spirit Goddess. It would be foolish for the Elune House to believe that they could tie her down with her blood duty.
Thus, the task of rebuilding Eshon fell to her. The city would not remain a symbol of invasion or loss. Under her guidance, it would rise grander than before, fortified in both spirit and stone. She had councils to convene, resources to allocate, alliances to reaffirm.
Entire districts required restructuring, defensive arrays needed strengthening, and displaced citizens deserved permanent homes rather than provisional relief.
Amon glanced at her as she began outlining plans aloud—new trade corridors, expanded distribution networks, incentives for artisans and scholars to return.
The fire in her voice was unmistakable.
The Yue who had once sulked over Anemos' escape was gone, and she was back to her all-knowing, smug self.
Soon, almost half a month had passed since Knodalon's rampage. Yue and Amon walked down the streets of Eshon as they observed how the homeland of the Elune was being rapidly rebuilt, with heavy investments from Yue.
They paused at a private restaurant overlooking the entire main district and enjoyed the view while slurping down some heavenly noodles. Yue, being the hungrier of the pair, was already on her fourth bowl while Amon watched her with a mouth slightly agape.
"I can't get used to your new appetite."
"Now that I'm a divine, I won't get fat no matter how much I eat! Of course, I'm going to indulge. I've always loved their red-peppercorn-sauce noodles, but they have too many calories! Only now can I fully let go!"
It seemed that Yue was quite the glutton and foodie, a side that Amon never knew existed. Naturally, such a change didn't dampen his love for her. In fact, he found this side of his lover quite endearing.
"It's a good thing that the Beast Titan didn't destroy this stall. If not, I would have made him suffer for a lot longer!"
"Haha, go ahead and enjoy."
Amon laughed and lightly slurped his noodles, too. Although he didn't love food as much as Yue did, he could enjoy a good meal. It was only after they'd finished their meals and dessert that Amon started bringing up business.
"The Titans are beginning to stir. I can feel it. They're planning something."
Using his new authority as Judicator of the Heavens, Amon could sense the change in the atmosphere. The Titans, a force capable of moving the heavens themselves, had gathered together.
Ignoring the Herald, who had lost most of her power, the rest of the Titans were now reuniting at the Necropolis. Agos, the Titan King, and Xiphos, the Metal Titan, barely moved since they awakened. Anemos, after being forced into a corner by Yue, returned immediately to the Necropolis too.
And that left Pyrrhos, the Infernal Titan, and Theia, the Mountain Titan.
Originally, Pyrrhos hid in the molten core of the planet, slowly accumulating its power. The same went for Theia. The Titan of nature, she returned to the primordial forest where she once resided, spreading her influence and bringing back glimpses of the ancient jungles.
But that all changed.
The five Titans now returned to the same spot, and for the first time, Amon felt like a looming threat from them.
"The Titans aren't dumb. Since they've noticed the death of the Beast Titan, they will be more careful when dealing with us now."
"Yes, they will be more careful… But, so will we."
Yue played with her matha mochi before swallowing it in one gulp.
"Now that I've obtained divinity, my understanding of it has deepened. The Titans were the old guard of the planet, using their authority as they pleased. But the Dragons did us a huge favour."
"What's that?"
"The Necropolis," Yue smiled cheekily. "It has been draining their divinities and returning it to the land ever since they were sealed. Now that the world is ready for the next stage of evolution, do you think it will resign to its old rulers?"
"You're saying…"
"The Heavens themselves are rejecting the Titans. In fact, even if we didn't do anything, they wouldn't reach their previous might."
Yue explained nonchalantly, as if it were common knowledge.
"The Titans' era was finished a long time ago. The only thing we need to be careful about is the Titan King. The others… we can manage them easily."
"What powers does the Titan King have?"
Amon asked the natural question. Although he knew what the other Titans were capable of, the Titan King was a complete blank to him. But for Yue, an entity that fought against the Titan King during the ancient war was hiding in her mirror dimension.
Yval, the newly ascended Dragon Goddess, stood at the forefront of the battle against the Titans. She knew the ins and outs of the Titans, especially the Titan King.
"The Titan King… Agos… Has dominion over space. That's what makes him the trickiest Titan to fight. Agos can teleport anywhere in the world, has near infinite mana, and has the authority to bend reality to his will."
"That powerful? Then how did the Dragon Progenitors defeat him?"
If Agos truly possessed the ability to teleport anywhere on the planet at will, then the very notion of the Dragon Progenitors successfully sealing him felt inherently contradictory.
A seal, no matter how intricate, required time to construct, time to stabilise, time to close its final gap.
Yet a being like the Titan King, who could supposedly traverse continents in the blink of an eye, would never have remained stationary long enough for such a confinement to take hold. The moment the draconic arrays began to converge, he could have simply displaced himself beyond their reach, reappearing on the far side of the world before the final sigil etched itself into reality.
And even if, by some miracle, the seal had managed to descend fully upon him, Agos was no ordinary entity to be quietly entombed.
He was the Titan King—a being whose raw physicality rivalled the foundations of the earth itself.
A prison forged of mana and law would still need to withstand his strength.
Unless…
"They sacrificed the Silver Dragon Progenitor to anchor space."
Yue divulged the truth without a moment's hesitation.
"If the Golden Dragon Progenitor took power from the Sun, then the Silver Dragon Progenitor took power from the Moon. That's why…"
"Ah… I'm the most suited to seal the Titan King?"
Although Amon didn't steal the Titan King's divinity yet, he was the closest thing to a Moon Divine.
"Not seal, kill." Yue quickly corrected Amon's statement. "You mustn't grant the Titans any mercy, for they will take over the world if you don't."
"Yes… I know that."
Amon heard of the stories from Yue's first timeline. The Titans wreaked havoc as they pleased causing humanity to dwindle in numbers. By the time they were defeated, humanity had barely any manpower left to stand against the Demons.
"Then… If it comes to pass… I will take on the Titan King alone?"
"That would be the plan," Yue smiled. "As for the rest of the Titans… you have the rest of us, right?"
Yue, Leon, Ellahan, Manon, Aluria and the Sword Saint.
The other candidates for the new Pantheon were now ready to fight against the other Titans so that Amon could focus solely on the Titan King.
It was a stage decades in the making, and Yue was going to see it to completion.
