Chapter 348: Apostle of Chaos (2)
Chapter 348: Apostle of Chaos (2)
Samael Ironblood.
Once the scion of the Ironblood house. Samael had everything one could dream of. He was born into a rich and influential family, making his life smoother than 99% of the world’s population. Not only that, but despite being born into a militaristic family, his parents didn’t force him to go down the military path.
If he wished to, he could become a bum, and his parents would still support him.
Love from his family. Enough money to buy a small town. Looks that would make any woman swoon. And... a gifted body that every Knight could only dream about.
Everything came easily to Samael.
Be it power, women or fame... anything he wanted was within his fingertips.
Alas, Samael wasn’t satisfied with that.
Because everything came easily... everything became boring.
After bedding his hundredth woman, he grew bored with them throwing themselves at him. After spending enough money to bankrupt ten average homes, he grew tired of money. After cultivating power enough to become the Ironblood House’s heir... Samael grew nonchalant.
The world, once so vivid and vibrant, became... dull and grey.
That’s when... Samael committed his first murder.
It started as an accident. One disgruntled husband dared to barge into Samael’s hotel room, where Samael was sleeping with his wife.
Confronted with his rage, Samael silenced the noisy man with a tight fist to the face.
Feeling the blood trickle down his knuckles, Samael felt something he hadn’t in many years... adrenaline. The feeling of dominating over another, taking their life like he were a god, thrilled Samael to no end.
It didn’t help that, despite committing daylight homicide, Samael didn’t serve a day in prison. The Ironblood House used its influence to cover up the murder, and his parents defended him to no end. Although Samael had killed a man... he was going to walk away scot-free.
That was the trigger within Samael’s mind.
After that incident, Samael went on a crime rampage. Murder, rape, arson... he did anything to savour that feeling once more.
At first, he committed crimes in the dark. Ensuring that no evidence could link back to him. But as time passed, Samael lost all sense and became brazen enough to commit them in the light.
Eventually, even the Ironblood House couldn’t defend Samael anymore. They excommunicated, denounced and even arrested him. But by then, Samael had already fallen to the dark side.
Found by the Demon Cult, Samael joined them without hesitation. He used the power given to him by the Prophet to create chaos everywhere he went. He committed crimes with impunity, ensuring he lived his life on his terms.
It was the greatest scandal in the Ironblood House’s history. One that Gerrick sought desperately to wipe clean.
"You have quite the nerve for appearing before me!"
Gerrick hollered while brandishing his fist. Despite being one of the commanders of the army, his fight with Samael was deeply personal. Aura spiked in the massive muscleman as he charged forward with relentless fury. In terms of pure martial arts, Gerrick exceeded that of Alrock or any Solaris Knight. In many ways, he could be considered the martial emperor of his time.
But, that fist, one that could level mountains... was grabbed by Samael’s demonised arm.
"Always so impulsive... No wonder your wife left you."
"You killed her! Don’t you remember?!"
"Oh did I? Heh, it’s been a while..."
Gerrick continued to exchange blows with Samael, only to realise that none of his strikes were working. Even worse, it seemed like Samael was playing with his food. Only using the smallest of movements to parry Gerrick’s onslaught without counterattacking.
With that, the martial emperor ceased his fist barrage and leapt back to his men.
Despite temporarily giving in to his anger, Gerrick understood the implications of an Apostle arriving in the Hyades Army. The Demon Empire were trying to take out the weakest links first, before encircling the Solaris House from behind.
And Gerrick wasn’t going to fall into their trap.
"Grand Commander, you can hear me right?"
"... yeah, calm yourself young’un."
"I know, there’s no point losing myself at this juncture."
"..."
Gerrick was a hothead, but he was a military commander first. He knew that losing his temper wouldn’t amount to much, and it would instead jeopardise their chances of winning the war.
"The Hyades Army is requesting backup. I don’t know how, but this son of a bitch has become much stronger than the last time we met. I can possibly hold him back for a few minutes, but defeat is inevitable."
"Carmen is on the way."
The moment Alrock felt Samael’s deadly demonic presence, he deployed Carmen. In terms of raw strength, there were few on the planet who could match Carmen’s ferocity. And with her condensing eight suns, she was the perfect candidate to take on an Apostle as dangerous as Samael.
At least... that was what Alrock believed.
"Samael, reinforcements from the Solaris House are arriving at your location. Stop wasting time and end it."
"Oh wow, they’re quick!"
Kieran’s words echoed within Samael’s mind, and the Apostle of Chaos broke into a sinister smile.
"Whoops, looks like I spent too much time reminiscing... Sorry old man, there are orders from above to speed things up."
Samael bared his pearly white teeth, and then he unleashed hell.
Crimson lightning, no, something far more sinister, split the air around him, crackling with a demonic fury that pressed down on everything in its reach. The atmosphere warped under the weight of it, thick and suffocating.
Mana surged outward in violent waves, swallowing the surroundings whole, indiscriminate and merciless. A storm took shape—one that recognized neither ally nor enemy.
It coiled and roared around the Apostle of Chaos, drawn to him as if he were its heart. His very existence seemed to expand, to intensify, as though the world itself struggled to contain him.
Then came the flames.
Pillars of searing inferno erupted from the ground, not born of fire, but of raw demonic mana given form. They clawed skyward, warping reality in their wake.
This was no mere display of power.
This was cataclysm—destruction on a scale reserved for beings whispered about in dread.
The kind only a Demon Duke could summon. A gift from the Demon King.
To become chaos incarnate. To stand as the ultimate variable in a world bound by order. To erase anything that dared stand in his path.
From a distance, Gerrick and his men could only watch.
The colour drained from their faces as the crushing aura bore down on them, stealing breath, stealing thought.
Instinct screamed what their minds could barely grasp... to run.
They were not facing a mortal... they were facing a natural disaster.
"Goodbye!"
And with a cheeky, evil smile, Samael unleashed a punch that was condensed with all that apocalyptic power. Crimson flames and thunder merged into a pillar of destruction that rushed at the Hyades Army like a destructive tsunami. Many ran, some accepted their fate.
But Gerrick... he stood.
If he were going to perish, he wasn’t going to perish with his back facing the enemy.
It was with his back facing his men.
Mana surged from his veins and supercharged his entire body with Aura. He was attempting to take on the apocalyptic fist and absorb some of the damage himself. That way... it would give his men a slight chance of survival.
It was a fool’s errand, but it was the commander’s final stand.
And just as he closed his eyes to accept his fate... the damage never came.
The only thing he felt... was a gentle breeze on his face.
Opening his eyes, his eyes were greeted by a divine light. One that was coloured with white gold majesty. Holding his breath, Gerrick turned his head skyward and he saw a young man levitating in the sky, like a deity that had come down to defend his faithful.
"L-Leon..."
"You did well, Sir Gerrick. But, it’s better if you leave this foe to me."
Leon spoke without hesitation. Ever since Leon had cast the protective spell upon the coalition army, he became astutely aware of everything that was going on the battlefield. The moment Samael unleashed his otherworldly power, Leon dropped everything and rushed here without hesitation.
In terms of raw power, Samael had exceeded that of a mere mortal. He was akin to that of a Demon Duke, and not even Alrock, Carmen or even the Sword Saint could resist such power.
There were only three people on their side who could fight Samael.
Amon, who was tied down to the Prophet and the Goddess.
Yue, his support and the woman who would resist the Demon Empire’s army with her legion of spirits.
And... himself.
"Hoh, looks like I’ve accidentally caught a big fish."
Samael didn’t look perturbed by Leon’s sudden appearance. In fact, he welcomed it.
"To think that an ascended divine would want a piece of me... I really have moved up in life."
"Apostle of Chaos... You truly are incorrigible."
"Heh, big words for a brat."
"Come," Leon drew Ascalon and channelled all eight-one of his magnificent suns. "I will cleanse the word of your sins."
