Chapter 367: Reaching Heaven (2)
Chapter 367: Reaching Heaven (2)
Amon gazed silently at Hyades as the newly crowned God of Harmony.
High above, the radiance of the First Throne descended from the heavens like a celestial pillar, brilliant and majestic. It stretched toward him as though inviting him to ascend and claim his rightful seat among the gods.
At any moment, Amon could rise into the divine realm and take his place upon the throne.
Yet he remained.
Because Hyades was still here. His golden eyes settled upon the floating goddess. The immaculate beauty that had once inspired reverence was now twisted by fury. Rage burned beneath her holy visage, cracking the facade of divinity she had maintained for so long.
She had lost.
Heaven was slipping from her grasp. Her greatest enemies remained alive.
And worst of all... The First Throne of the new Pantheon had manifested.
And she wasn't the one sitting on it.
A vein throbbed on her forehead as she bit down on her lip hard enough to draw blood. Then, for the first time in countless years, a curse escaped the mouth of a sanctified goddess.
"AMON SOLARIS!"
Amon didn't even give her the chance to finish. The sun darkened. An eclipse spread across the sky as his divinity descended upon the world.
The Aspect of Harmony screamed.
Space itself folded around Amon's body. Hyades' divine tree shattered into motes of fading light. The countless angels surrounding her suddenly lost control of their own divinities, their heavenly authority stripped away in an instant.
Even the Pope, who had been sitting arrogantly upon Hyades' throne, was forcibly dragged from the heavens and hurled back toward the earth.
The world warped. Reality bent. And everyone present understood a terrifying truth.
This mortal realm no longer belonged to Hyades.
It had become Amon's domain.
"You..." Hyades hissed, venom dripping from every word. "You will pay for this!"
Her glare could have frozen oceans. Yet there was nothing she could do. Within the mortal world, Amon's authority surpassed hers completely. Only in Heaven did she still possess a sliver of hope. Amon met her gaze calmly.
"Hyades." His voice echoed across the trembling skies. "Let's finish this... in Heaven."
He already knew what her next move would be.
And he made no attempt to stop her.
Partly because it was inevitable.
Sooner or later, she would return to Heaven regardless.
But there was a far more important reason.
Ellahan.
As long as Hyades remained connected to the mortal realm, she still maintained control over the Saintess. The moment she returned to Heaven, that connection would break. And Ellahan would finally be free.
Free to return safely to Leon.
Hyades, unaware of his intentions, merely gritted her teeth.
"You will regret this."
Amon waved dismissively.
"Yeah, yeah. Stop with the final boss dialogue and go already."
For a brief moment, silence reigned.
Then… whoosh.
The goddess vanished. Her holy power withdrew from the world entirely. Across the continent, priests collapsed. Paladins stared in disbelief. Sacred miracles flickered and died. Every believer of the Holy Church felt their divine power disintegrate into nothingness.
The Holy Church wasn't merely a toothless tiger anymore.
It was a tiger without claws, fangs, limbs, or tail.
A hollow shell. Without the Goddess's holy power blessing them, they were essentially headless chickens.
Amon didn't even spare them a glance. They were no longer worth his attention. Because another voice suddenly rang out.
"Ella!"
Leon shot through the air like a meteor. In a blur, he caught the falling Saintess and pulled her gently into his arms. It looked like something straight out of a fairy tale.
The Hero saving the Saintess.
Ellahan's eyelids fluttered. Slowly, she opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Leon's face. A face she hadn't seen in what felt like an eternity.
"L-Leon...?"
His eyes immediately reddened.
"Y-Yes! Thank god you're alright!"
Ellahan blinked. Then, despite everything she had endured, a faint smile appeared.
"Thank god? Aren't you technically a god too?"
Amon couldn't help chuckling. The newly ascended Hero simply laughed with pure, unrestrained joy.
"Heh. I suppose I should be thanking you instead..." His gaze shifted toward Amon. "God of Harmony."
Amon smirked.
"You became a god before me, God of Protection."
Leon scratched the back of his head.
"Haha. I guess it doesn't count until we actually claim our thrones."
The two men looked upward. The Gate of Heaven remained wide open. Amon could enter it this very second.
But still... He waited. Then the world shook.
ROOOOOAAARRRRR!!!
A monstrous roar erupted from the oceans. The heavens trembled. The seas churned violently as a colossal shadow emerged from the depths. Using their divine senses, Amon and Leon immediately understood what was happening.
Kieran.
The final Apostle had begun his last assault. With the Holy Church broken and the Prophet dead, only one major threat remained in the mortal realm.
The Demon Empire.
And now, every ounce of its power rested in Kieran's hands. Amon took a step forward. Only for Leon to raise a hand and stop him.
"Leave the rest to me." Amon paused while Leon smiled.
"You go after Hyades."
"Leon..."
"Even if I'm certain you'll win, it's better to strike while the iron's hot."
For a moment, neither spoke. Then Amon nodded.
"...You're right."
Hyades had been cornered. But cornered prey was often the most dangerous. Every second she spent in Heaven was another second she could recover her strength. If Amon intended to end this once and for all... The time to act was now.
The God of Harmony lifted his gaze toward the open gates of Heaven.
And without another word… He stepped toward destiny.
"You're not trying to leave without me, right?"
Just as he was enveloped in the golden ray, Yue's arm intertwined with Amon's. The Spirit Goddess flashed her teeth as she declared:
"You're not going anywhere without me."
"Haha, I wouldn't dare."
Amon didn't see Yue as a weakness or a liability. In fact, Amon saw her as his equal, his partner-in-crime, his… wife.
"Yue."
"What is it?"
"When we return from heaven… let's get married."
"!!!"
Yue's ruby eyes widened before relaxing into a radiant smile.
"Okay!"
Leon watched the two lovebirds enveloped by the golden ray as they ascended into heaven. There was no doubt in his mind that they would return victorious. Therefore, he had to do his part.
"Ella, you rest here alright?"
Leon brought Ellahan down and left her in a safe place.
"L-Leon…"
"You're still recovering from Hyades's possession. Just rest here and leave the rest to me."
"Yes…"
Leon took one step away, but he quickly retreated and stole his lover's lips. Ellahan's emerald eyes twinkled radiantly as they reflected Leon's blue irises. Then, they both closed their eyes. The moment passed like an eternity and they separated unwillingly.
"When this is done… I'll marry you too."
"Mmmm…"
Inspired by Amon and Yue's display, Leon gave Ellahan a solemn vow. The vow for them to be united forever.
"Wait for me."
And with a flash, Leon disappeared, leaving Ellahan to clutch her accelerating heart.
❖❖❖
The moment Kieran began to move, the remnants of the Demon Empire surged into action.
In response, the forces of House Solaris immediately withdrew and regrouped around the capital's defenses. The Eldorin warriors moved alongside them, taking positions atop the battlements and walls.
Then they saw it.
The ocean split apart.
Towering waves rose hundreds of meters into the air as something colossal emerged from the depths. Silence fell across the battlefield.
A monstrous creature ascended from the sea—a behemoth so vast that it seemed capable of swallowing the entire world.
"W-What is that...?"
"H-How did the Demon Empire hide something like that?!"
Fear spread through the ranks. The creature possessed the long, serpentine body of a water dragon, covered in shimmering scales that reflected the sunlight like polished sapphire. Yet its draconic features only made its true appearance more horrifying. Dozens of writhing tentacles curled around its neck and torso.
Its massive head was grotesquely malformed, lined with countless eyes that opened and closed independently of one another.
It looked less like a dragon... And more like an eldritch nightmare given form.
The mere sight of it sent chills down everyone's spine.
"This mana..." Alrock Solaris narrowed his eyes. "It's similar to the Demon Prince's."
As one of the few survivors who had personally fought against the Demon Prince, he immediately recognized the familiar aura.
Yet his expression quickly darkened.
"No..." His voice trembled. "It's stronger."
Far stronger.
An overwhelming pressure descended upon the battlefield. The soldiers felt their lungs tighten. Their hearts pounded uncontrollably. It was as though an invisible ocean had materialized around them, threatening to drag them into its endless depths.
And then… The Chaos Dolls appeared.
One after another, the surviving Demon Nobles emerged from the shadows, gathering before the colossal beast.
At the center of them all stood Kieran.
The Apostle of Domination.
With an expression devoid of emotion, he raised his hand and gently moved his fingers through the air. Like a conductor directing an orchestra. Like a king commanding the end of the world.
"Abyssion." His calm voice echoed across the battlefield. "Kill them all."
"GRAAAAAOOORRRR!"
The sea itself exploded. Abyssion unleashed a deafening roar that shook the heavens. The colossal monster opened its maw, gathering enough mana to erase entire armies from existence.
The knights gripped their weapons. The magicians hastily raised their staffs.
Everyone prepared themselves for the inevitable… For death...
But the attack never came.
A brilliant wall of golden light descended from the heavens.
BOOM! The destructive wave crashed against the barrier and shattered into countless fragments. A divine presence swept across the battlefield.
Warm. Radiant. Unyielding.
The soldiers looked upward. A figure clad in gold and azure stood before the army, his cape billowing against the wind.
The pressure crushing their hearts vanished instantly.
Hope returned.
The Hero had arrived. The protector of humanity. The newly ascended God of Protection.
"Leon!"
A thunderous cheer erupted from the battlefield as countless eyes turned toward the radiant figure standing between humanity and annihilation.
