Chapter 2016: Chapter 2016: Poison Testing (Part 4)
Du Juan stepped forward and blocked the person from leaving.
Yang Ruxin didn’t even look at those people; instead, she went to take a look at the dead old woman, as the coroner was examining her.
Soon, the coroner stood up and said, "My Lord, this person indeed died from poisoning, likely from arsenic and nux vomica... essentially rat poison."
Yang Ruxin also crouched down to inspect and confirmed that the cause of death was indeed rat poison.
"Yang Ruxin, what do you say?" Lord Jiang asked, looking at Yang Ruxin.
"My Lord, whether or not there is poison in the food from my vegetarian restaurant can be determined through an experiment." Yang Ruxin smiled faintly.
"Experiment?" Lord Jiang frowned, "What do you mean?"
Yang Ruxin glanced outside.
Gu Di had already led the restaurant staff to bring in the tables from the private dining room where the family ate earlier, and they were full of dishes ordered by the family, most of which had already been eaten.
"These are the dishes they ate." Yang Ruxin pointed to the items on the tables, "Correct?"
Many people nodded, because everyone had just watched them being brought over.
Along with them, Gu Di had brought three chickens.
"These are the vegetarian restaurant’s dishes, and I also ask for some ordinary vegetables from you all." Yang Ruxin swept her gaze over the crowd watching the spectacle.
A woman carrying a basket said, "I have some, but it’s worth thirty wen; you’ll have to buy it."
Du Juan walked over and handed her a tael of silver.
Additionally, Lord Jiang had someone bring a basket of vegetables from the governor’s office kitchen.
The crowd looked at Yang Ruxin in confusion, not knowing what she intended to do.
Yang Ruxin glanced at the chickens and vegetables, then looked at the crowd, "Could someone please buy some rat poison or other poisons?"
Du Juan was already holding up a piece of broken silver and walking over.
"I’ll go," said a middle-aged man, taking the silver.
"We’ll go too," said two others nearby, following him.
Soon, three bags of rat poison were brought back.
Yang Ruxin had someone mix the rat poison into three portions of vegetables and fed them to the three chickens.
Everyone watched the chickens with wide eyes, knowing that with rat poison, death was certain.
As expected, after about a quarter of an hour, the three chickens gradually collapsed.
The crowd frowned, wondering what this meant. Were they supposed to watch how the chickens were poisoned? It seemed like a waste—three big, fat chickens...
But just as the crowd was discussing, one of the chickens suddenly kicked its legs twice, then fluttered a bit, and finally stood up. Though it seemed a bit dizzy and weak, it was alive.
However, the other two were already dead.
"This..." Everyone looked incredulously at the wobbling chicken. Even rat poison couldn’t kill it? How miraculous.
"Everyone saw it, right? This chicken didn’t die because it ate the ingredients from the vegetarian restaurant." Yang Ruxin smiled, "All of our vegetables are grown using a special medicinal infusion, which naturally contains detoxifying properties. I believe those who have eaten it several times should feel changes in their body..."
Immediately, someone nodded, "I do feel more energetic..."
"When I first started eating it, even my bowel movements were smellier than before. Is it detoxifying?"
"Anyway, after my wife ate several times, her skin seemed to improve..."
