Chapter 2024: Chapter 2024: Master Puji (2)
The Little Monk led Yang Ruxin and Du Juan from the mountain gate, then through the side door on the right, all the way to the Cangjing Building, passing through a small Moon Sect, gradually hearing the sound of the Wooden-Fish Stone.
After passing through a patch of Purple Bamboo Forest, they arrived at a separate small courtyard at the back, which had no gate, just a semicircular doorway, leading into a path paved with cobblestones.
When they reached the steps at the entrance, the sound of the Wooden-Fish Stone stopped.
"Please, benefactor." The Little Monk bowed with hands clasped towards Yang Ruxin.
Yang Ruxin thanked him, then pushed open the door and entered, but Du Juan was stopped outside by the Little Monk.
Upon entering, the first thing visible was the word "Buddha" on the wall facing them, with an incense burner on a table beneath it, from which wafted a light sandalwood aroma.
The door on the left was open, with cushions and a low table on the floor, the table holding tea utensils, a small red clay stove nearby, with the kettle on it already boiling.
An old Monk, with long white eyebrows and beard, a shiny forehead, wearing a purple kasaya, was pouring water from a small teapot into the kettle, seamlessly preparing the tea.
"This is Cloud Mist Tea I grew myself on Scenic Mountain. Come and taste how it is," the old Monk said, holding a cup of tea, sniffing it, before looking up at Yang Ruxin who was still standing at the doorway.
Yang Ruxin walked over and sat down on the cushion, picked up the teacup and sniffed it, then blew at it and drank it all in one go, poured another cup and drank it in one gulp, repeated until she drank four cups in succession, then let out a sigh of relief, "Ah, that’s better."
Master Puji twitched the corner of his mouth, "You were supposed to savor the tea, not gulp it down."
"Your mountain gate is so high, climbing it in one go, I’m bound to be tired and thirsty. Who has the mood to savor tea? Naturally, I drink to quench thirst. But these cups are really too small for any satisfaction..."
"Alright then." Master Puji could only nod helplessly, "It’s this old monk’s fault."
"Master Puji, how did you guess I was coming?" Yang Ruxin was still curious about this, "We didn’t know each other before. Could you really calculate and predict the future?"
"Haha..." Puji laughed, "Heaven’s secrets cannot be divulged."
Yang Ruxin couldn’t help but roll her eyes, "Fine, keep your secrets. But you specifically had the Little Monk call me up here, you must have something to say, right?"
"Why did you come here?"
"You guess!" Yang Ruxin felt the need to be playful to keep a balance.
Master Puji smiled wisely, "You’re avoiding something!"
Yang Ruxin shrugged noncommittally.
"But have you ever thought, why not prevent certain things in advance? Avoidance is in effect inciting others to commit wrongs..." Master Puji’s slightly drooping eyelids were fixed intently on Yang Ruxin, his gaze deep and penetrating, "Saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-level pagoda..."
Yang Ruxin was moved, then she put away her nonchalant attitude, sat up straight, and earnestly stared at him, "What the Master says makes sense, but that’s the Master’s reasoning." She paused, "I don’t know how much the Master knows, but there’s one thing I want to say: not everyone will stop just because you warn them. Maybe this time they might heed, but what about next time?"
