Chapter 2354: Chapter 2354: The One They Like (Part 4)
In three days, Yang Peili was able to get up and walk around slowly.
Since he was a man, Yang Ruxin had Li Datou and Uncle Laokuang take turns coming over to help, like changing clothes and supporting him to the outhouse.
"Thanks for the trouble." After returning from the outhouse, Yang Peili washed his hands and got onto the kang, gratefully glancing at Uncle Laokuang.
"Uncle, no need to be so formal." Uncle Laokuang chuckled and went to add a shovel of coal to the stove, "I owe everything today to Xinxin, who didn’t mind me being unlucky, or I wouldn’t be where I am now."
Yang Peili lowered his eyes, saying nothing.
Uncle Laokuang glanced at Yang Peili and handed over the medicinal soup delivered from the kitchen. "Uncle, I’m an outsider, but we’ve known each other for decades. I’ll say something heartfelt: Uncle, you are really muddle-headed."
Yang Peili bit his dry lips, looked up with a bitter smile, and said, "I know, but it’s too late for me to realize."
Uncle Laokuang looked at Yang Peili like this, unsure of what to say, finally just sighing, "But, Song Ge’er is good, so your life won’t be too bad in the future."
Yang Peili nodded, "Indeed, I have no face to ask for forgiveness from Xinxin’s family."
"But at the risk of offending you, I have to remind you, you can’t spoil your little daughter."
Yang Peili raised his eyes in surprise, then sighed, "Laokuang, tell me, are the villagers laughing at me?"
Uncle Laokuang could only chuckle twice, as he didn’t know what to say.
Yang Peili didn’t ask further, as it was all obvious. Just now, he asked despite losing his old face: "Forget it, deep down I understand, in the past, I always cared about saving face, but really, the Yang Family has long lost it."
"Uncle, it’s good that you understand now." Uncle Laokuang smiled.
"But my grandchildren no longer recognize me." Yang Peili said, feeling somewhat aggrieved, tears rolling down.
"Xinxin is the softest-hearted, she was just really disheartened before. You should know how hard it was for her to support this family? We as villagers felt heartache watching."
Yang Peili just wiped away his tears, not saying anything, as he had no face to speak.
"Rest first, I’ll go check on the livestock in the back, I’ll be right back." Uncle Laokuang sighed and got up.
In the yard, Feng Zilan happened to walk over, seeing Uncle Laokuang, she smiled, "How’s the old man doing?"
Uncle Laokuang, upon seeing Feng Zilan, became slightly uneasy, not knowing where to put his hands: "Um... um, he’s doing well."
"That’s good." Feng Zilan nodded, "The kitchen has made some bone broth, you should take a bowl over to him soon."
"Okay." Uncle Laokuang nodded.
Feng Zilan smiled and then turned to leave.
But Uncle Laokuang breathed a sigh of relief, feeling nervous every time he saw her, his heart beating so fast it almost suffocated him.
Yang Ruxin happened to be standing upstairs watching this scene, her eyes flickering. So Uncle Laokuang likes Mother-in-law? This matter... they are both good people, and if they can come together to live together, that would be nice.
"Madam, what are you planning now?" Du Juan was standing next to Yang Ruxin, curious at her enigmatic smile.
Yang Ruxin looked back at her, "I was thinking, how about finding Brother Yunpeng a concubine?"
