Chapter 2482: Chapter 2482: Alchemist (Part 2)
The entire mountain has been hollowed out, and in its center lies a large pool, filled with dark yellow liquid, with some people soaking inside.
Around it are many separate stone caves, each containing a pool filled with liquids of various colors.
From the smell alone, it is discernible that all the liquids here are medicinal, and many of the pools contain venomous medicine liquids.
That’s why the smell here is even more suffocating.
Gu Qingheng couldn’t help but cough.
"General Gu, are you alright?" Flame asked with genuine concern.
"It’s nothing," Gu Qingheng shook his head, "Just choked on my own spit."
Flame was noncommittal.
"Why soak them?" Gu Qingheng pointed at the people in the large pool.
"The newcomers are mere mortals; they must soak in the large pool for three days, using venomous toxins to temper their flesh and bones. Those who survive prove their excellence and are then eligible to enter the smaller pools," Flame stood with one hand behind his back, speaking as if discussing the morning’s breakfast rather than life and death.
The people in the pool groaned in agony, but tied with chains and unable to climb out or even stand, their survival instincts kept them struggling. Yet slowly, the struggling movements grew sluggish until they gradually sank into the pool.
If someone remains submerged for about fifteen minutes without resurfacing, others would come to pull up the chains, bringing the person out with them.
"These useless ones won’t be wasted even in death," Flame seemed pleased, guiding Gu Qingheng past the pool.
They passed through another door, entering a small canyon, above which a small circle of sky was visible.
In this small canyon, iron bars enclosed a large area, housing seven or eight monstrous beasts that charged at Flame upon sight, roaring loudly.
"These creatures love eating the flesh of those soaked in medicine," Flame waved a hand.
The beasts immediately lay down obediently.
Gu Qingheng looked at the beasts; huge, resembling dogs or wolves, yet their fangs appeared boar-like, an odd sight indeed, with large red eyes akin to quail eggs, tinged with purple-black.
As they spoke, two men in black tossed a corpse freshly pulled from the pool inside the iron bars.
The beasts pounced with widened eyes, and in just a moment, the entire body was gone, leaving not even bones, only faint traces of blood hinting at the presence of a dead man.
The seven or eight beasts, having shared a meal, were far from sated; instead, their appetites were aroused. Perhaps because Flame was there, they dared not act unruly, merely letting out low growls as if reminding Flame to bring more food.
"Originally, these were regular dogs, but after years of feeding on dead herbalists, they have grown into this," Flame chuckled lightly, "Come, let me show you how to train Medicinal Soldiers."
Gu Qingheng couldn’t help but glance back, the beasts bared their teeth and growled at him, some still had remnants of blood on their teeth, looking utterly terrifying.
