Chapter 2698: Chapter 2698: Engagement (Part 1)
Fortunately, the meeting went very smoothly. Shu Jingzhi and Shu Niushi had a good impression of Li Jiaya. Although the young girl wasn’t stunningly beautiful, she had a pleasant appearance that easily won favor, and the fact that she knew medical skills left nothing to be dissatisfied about.
More importantly, Shu Niushi and Leng Cuicui got along so well, it was as if they were old friends upon meeting.
Right there, Shu Niushi took off a jade bracelet from her wrist and placed it on Li Jiaya’s: "This is what a mother-in-law gives to her daughter-in-law. Both daughters-in-law of the Shu family have this, so, Jiaya, don’t refuse it. From now on, we will follow the traditional matchmaking practices, and you won’t be wronged."
Li Jiaya blushed but responded with a smile: "Thank you, Second Madam."
"You’ve accepted the gift, and you’re still calling her Second Madam?" Dong Wenxiu reminded.
"Mother."
Everyone laughed.
Nobody expected Shu Niushi and Leng Cuicui to hit it off so well, which made everyone happy.
In the countryside, matchmaking and engagement are big matters.
Since everyone was in agreement, it was just a formality, so the Shu family did not hire an official matchmaker. To show how seriously they took it, they invited the village chief’s wife from Dapu East Village and the Lizheng’s wife to act as matchmakers.
Lin Xiaoling was very enthusiastic about this kind of event. She loved seeing young couples in the village find happiness in marriage.
The Lizheng’s wife, Li Qiushi, was usually a low-profile person who rarely appeared, but she warmly agreed this time. It wasn’t just because of Yang Ruxin and Gu Qingheng’s status but also because Li Yi was from the Li family’s clan, which has always been united.
After the proposal, the dowry was immediately presented, and it was so generous that Li Jiaya was not wronged at all.
By the end of March, Shu Xing and the other members of the Shu family returned to Tongcheng. A wedding is a big deal, with many preparations needed, most importantly choosing an auspicious date.
Gu Qingheng also ended his vacation and departed for the capital on the second day after the Shu family left.
Li Jiaya could no longer run around as she used to; she had to stay home and embroider her trousseau.
After the three little beans reached eight months, they started crawling all over the place, occasionally uttering a word or two, though no one knew what they were saying.
And Yang Ruxin’s milk gradually decreased and became thinner, eventually being completely rejected without any discomfort. Thus, she weaned them without much suffering.
"You really care for your mother." Yang Ruxin was genuinely delighted. She had thought of weaning them by the age of one and had considered many methods like applying chili, but never needed them.
The three little beans giggled happily, crawling from one end of the bed, which was surrounded by barriers, to the other end and back. When they got tired, they sat down and gnawed on prepared boiled pig tail sticks.
There were no teething sticks available here, so they had to use thick gelatinous pig tails instead.
Yang Ruxin could spend hours just sitting there watching the little ones play.
Now she truly understood why they say maternal love is great. For their children, mothers can indeed be fearless. If anyone dared to harm her three treasures, regardless of who they were, she’d fight them at all costs.
"Madam." At this moment, Chun Hua walked in, "There’s a woman outside with a big belly who wants to see you."
