Chapter 2701: Chapter 2701: Something’s Wrong (4)
Chun Hua was just about to open her mouth, "Didn’t you say you don’t have any relatives?" but was silenced by a glare from Yang Ruxin.
"Chai Qin, carefully escort Madam Liu out." Yang Ruxin glanced at Chai Qin.
Chai Qin nodded.
"Madam, there’s something off about that person." Once Long Qingye had left, Chun Hua couldn’t help but speak up, "Why didn’t you let me say anything just now?"
"What problem did you notice?" Yang Ruxin raised her eyebrow slightly.
"First of all, we’ve been dealing with Old Bai for so long; the madam knows better than me what kind of person he is. Not to mention widows, even young maidens have thrown themselves at him, but he’s never acted out of line."
Yang Ruxin nodded: "Go on."
"That woman’s eyes are not honest at all. They look at the things in our house as if they’re glowing green." Chun Hua curled her lip. "Moreover, if she were truly genuine, when Old Bai tried to force her, she would have fought to the death rather than submit, or at least come directly to you to seek justice after the incident. But she waited until the child was this old to come forward. Isn’t it obvious she’s trying to extort Old Bai? Plus, didn’t she say she had no relatives? How come there’s suddenly a brother?"
"Wow, a few months without seeing you, and you’ve gotten smarter, huh." Yang Ruxin couldn’t help but laugh, "It’s precisely because there’s a problem; that’s why I didn’t let you confront her. It could alarm her, you know?"
"As long as madam doesn’t trust her, that’s good." Chun Hua breathed a sigh of relief.
"You know Old Bai quite well." Yang Ruxin teased, looking at Chun Hua.
"Madam." Chun Hua’s face turned red, "Don’t you know him too?"
"I really don’t know him as well as you do." Yang Ruxin shook her head, "At least I didn’t know that young maidens have tried to throw themselves at Old Bai. Is there something I don’t know about?"
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Chun Hua’s face: "Oh madam, that’s not the point, is it?"
Seeing the young girl getting anxious, Yang Ruxin decided to stop teasing her and got up to leave: "I’m going to the backyard. Inform me when Old Bai returns."
Chun Hua agreed.
Outside the Yang Family, a carriage was parked by the roadside.
"The look in Yang Ruxin’s eyes is too intimidating," Long Qingye leaned inside the carriage, "I didn’t dare to meet her eyes; it felt like she could see right through me."
"Don’t be afraid," a man softly reassured, "No matter how formidable she is, what can she do? If her people are up to no good, she has to accept it." He paused, "Remember, ask for more silver."
However, Long Qingye’s eyes flashed, and unlike before, she didn’t immediately nod. Before coming to the Yang Family, she perhaps only wanted to extort some silver and that’d be it. But after seeing the Yang Family’s little building and the furnishings inside, she was tempted. If she could really marry that Old Bai, she wouldn’t have to worry about money for the rest of her life.
After all, Old Bai was in charge of a workshop and several shops. Once she had control over Old Bai, all those silvers could be hers.
The person they thought would return in four hours came back in less than an hour.
But Old Bai was on horseback, so even if he noticed the carriage, he didn’t think that someone inside was there to trick him and rode straight to the front gate.
Yang Ruxin was just grabbing the gold to extract snake venom when Chun Hua ran over: "Old Bai is back."
Yang Ruxin immediately tossed the gold to Dao Xuzi and then went to the front courtyard.
"Madam." Bai Rongguang bowed, "Did you call for me?"
