Chapter 2737: Chapter 2737: Herbalist (Part 3)
Originally, Chai Shu thought that was how she would spend her whole life, but then one day, people suddenly came into the mountains to grab people. Many girls from the nearby villages were taken, and the old man was beaten to death trying to protect her. It was only then that she suddenly discovered she seemed to know martial arts, but two fists couldn’t fight four hands, and in the end she still failed to escape.
They were first captured and locked up in a stockade. There, everyone was fed some kind of insects, and after that, many of the girls died on the spot, until only three were left.
She was one of the three who survived.
After that, these three girls were chosen to become herbalists.
For almost a year, they were all trapped in the stockade, soaking in Medicine Baths every day, and each day they were fed a bowl of medicinal decoction. At first it was one bowl a day; about half a year later it became two bowls, and after a year, they no longer soaked in Medicine Baths, but instead had three bowls of decoction a day.
It was around that time she discovered her blood had turned a pale purple, and once the medicine stopped, her whole body felt as if Little Bug were gnawing on her from the inside.
Yet once she drank the medicine, she would fall into a state of unconsciousness.
A year ago, she suddenly remembered her past, and after that she desperately wanted to escape, but unfortunately she never succeeded, not even once.
A few months ago, the three herbalists had their eyes covered and were taken out of the stockade, out of the mountains, and then driven along blindfolded for a very long way. From the conversations of people along the road, she learned that they were being sent to Beijing.
So these last few days she had been preparing, drinking only half a bowl every time she was given medicine. That way, she could wake up early from her stupor.
She made her move when she was being taken off the carriage, using a hairpin to stab the person carrying her down, and then ran.
Chai Shu’s information plunged Yang Ruxin and Gu Qingheng into deep thought. Ever since the Flame Sect was dismantled, there had been no movement. The south and the Miaojiang side had both been under close watch—any stir would not have gone unnoticed. Yet now herbalists had appeared again; this was far too horrifying.
"You’re sure they never mentioned the name of their organization in front of you?" Yang Ruxin looked at Chai Shu.
Chai Shu shook her head.
"What about a symbol?" Yang Ruxin frowned. "Did those people have any special marks on them or anything like that?"
Chai Shu tilted her head, thinking, but after a long while she still couldn’t recall anything.
Yang Ruxin knew there was nothing more to ask, and she could also see the fatigue on the other woman, so she no longer pressed her, only telling her to rest well for now.
"Madam, can she be cured?" Chai Qin’s face was full of expectation.
"I don’t know." Yang Ruxin shook her head. "She’s different from those herbalists of the Flame Sect, so for now I’m not sure. But I’ll do my best."
Chai Qin nodded. She knew that when madam said she’d do her best, she truly would. Maybe Chai Shu still had a chance to live.
"What type of poison does Chai Shu have in her?" Back in the main room, Gu Qingheng finally asked Yang Ruxin.
"It’s rather strange." Yang Ruxin pointed at the blood she had taken from Chai Shu. "From the smell of it, all I can detect are good things."
"What?" Gu Qingheng froze. "You’re saying she isn’t actually poisoned?"
Yang Ruxin shook her head. "You’ve studied some medicine yourself; you should know everything has two sides. The medicine that can treat illness and save people can, turned around, also be used as poison to kill and harm." As she spoke, she let a drop of that pale purple blood fall on her fingertip, gently rubbed it for a while, then held it under Gu Qingheng’s nose.
