Chapter 2800: Chapter 2800: Where Are the People? (6)
Wan Quan scratched his head. He had thought it was all too obvious earlier.
"You should wait until you’ve healed enough before going back, or perhaps you could inform your brothers to come and help out." Yang Ruxin said as she yawned, "Let’s all sleep."
In the dead of night, amidst the silence, several shadows quietly approached the dilapidated house. One of them took out a Fire Starter, suddenly lit it, and threw it toward the thatched house.
Instantly, the entire thatched cottage was engulfed in flames, crackling and lighting up half the sky.
But what puzzled all the men in black was why nobody was coming out. Even if they were asleep, they would wake up and struggle from the fire, yet there was nothing. What was going on here? Could there be nobody inside?
To be certain, they could only wait for the fire to die down.
Meanwhile, Yang Ruxin was sitting in the space, gnawing on a carrot while watching the blazing fire outside, burning fiercely. Beside her were three people whom she had drugged to sleep.
A whole hour passed before the flames began to die down.
The men in black started to sift through the ashes, only to find grass ash and wood ash. There was no sign of any human presence.
The four exchanged perplexed glances. How could this be? They had checked earlier—there were people inside, and the horses had just been tied up outside. When the fire started, the three horses were startled and bolted.
"Are you looking for me?" Yang Ruxin appeared, stepping out of the thatched house’s area. There were still quite a few sparks here, enough to burn her skirt.
The men in black were startled and hastily pulled out their weapons, aiming them at her.
"I have no grudge against you, so why come to stealthily attack me?" Yang Ruxin shrugged, "Are you paid to kill me?"
"We are not here to kill you; we are here for the man named Wan. Be wise and hand him over." One of the men in black spoke up.
"How much does your employer pay to kill him?" Yang Ruxin looked at the man in black.
"This..." The man in black hesitated.
"I’ll pay double to have you kill your employer instead." Yang Ruxin said, pulling out a stack of silver notes from her pocket, "This is a hundred thousand taels, is it enough?"
The corners of the man in black’s mouth twitched. A woman casually carrying a hundred thousand taels in silver notes? How daring is she?
"If it’s not enough, make it two hundred thousand taels." Yang Ruxin said, pulling out another handful of silver notes, "How about it?"
"That’s not the rule."
"Rules are made by people; rules are dead, and people are alive." Yang Ruxin sneered, "Give me a straight answer."
The men in black exchanged glances and came to a consensus. They suddenly lunged at Yang Ruxin.
Just a woman, yet with so many silver notes—wouldn’t robbing her be easier? Killing Wan Quan was just thirty thousand taels, but robbing this woman...
Yang Ruxin merely sneered as she watched them charge at her, but just as they reached her, one by one, they all collapsed to the ground.
Yang Ruxin then moved the three people from the space outside and went over to each, patting them twice: "Wake up."
Yang Xiong was the first to wake up, confused. This...
"Madam, what’s going on?" Chai Qin was startled.
"These are the people who were after me, aren’t they?" Wan Quan also stood up, "Why are they all lying down here?"
"Poisoned." Yang Ruxin said, kicking the men in black, "This is the price for an evil mind technique."
