Chapter 2941: Chapter 2941: Old Liu (Part 4)
Qi Jingyun gathered the personnel on duty for the three days before and after the incident.
Yang Ruxin questioned them one by one about their situation while on duty. Nothing seemed amiss, and finally, it was the turn of the four prison guards on duty in the cell that day.
"Are you the Old Liu who delivers meals to the prisoners?" Yang Ruxin first asked a middle-aged man dressed in a prison guard uniform.
"Yes, madam." The prison guard replied respectfully, kneeling on the ground.
"Stand up and talk." Yang Ruxin nodded, "Tell me about what happened on the day of the incident, in detail."
The prison guard nodded and seriously recounted the events of that day.
"Wait." Yang Ruxin suddenly raised her hand, "Did you say there was someone inside before?"
The man nodded: "Because they’re death row convicts, every morning we conduct a round of inspection before serving meals. During the inspection, the person was still lying inside, but when we brought the meals over, the person was gone."
"What about Old Zhang?"
A sturdy prison guard hastily stepped forward: "Yes, madam, that’s indeed what happened."
"Then what did you do next?"
"We opened the cell door to investigate, but found no one, so we quickly raised the alarm," Old Zhang answered honestly.
Yang Ruxin nodded and then looked at the other two: "What were you two doing at that time?"
"Madam, we were guarding the door at that time."
Yang Ruxin nodded, suddenly a whip appeared in her hand and she swung it at the four of them.
The four were clearly startled, each quickly reacted, dodged the whip, and collectively knelt down. Had they done something wrong?
But after just one swing, Yang Ruxin halted: "Alright, you may leave."
"Xinxin, these people should be fine, right?" Qi Jingyun looked at Yang Ruxin, "They’re all veteran prison guards here." Implying that these people’s loyalty was not in doubt.
"As far as you know, how are these people’s martial skills?" Yang Ruxin looked at Qi Jingyun.
"Among ordinary people, they are considered decent," Qi Jingyun showed a puzzled look, "But, Old Zhang’s skills should be the best." As he said this, his brow furrowed suddenly, "Yet..."
"Yet I noticed Old Liu’s skills should surpass Old Zhang’s," Gu Qingheng spoke up, "Although he conceals it well, his instinctive reactions were most genuine."
"Bring someone to recall Old Liu," Qi Jingyun immediately issued the command.
"Let’s go to Old Liu’s house," Yang Ruxin turned and walked out.
Old Liu’s house is a quarter of an hour’s walk from the Heavenly Prison, a standalone small courtyard. Old Liu and his wife have one son, as he’s an only child, he lived with his parents.
But just at the courtyard entrance, Yang Ruxin’s expression suddenly changed. She hurriedly went to push open the courtyard door but did not enter the main house; instead, she directly went to the woodshed in the backyard.
By now, the sky had already darkened, and the light in the woodshed wasn’t very good.
Yun Bai, who followed behind, quickly ignited a torch and walked in.
After scanning around, Yang Ruxin pointed to a pile of firewood: "Move it."
After moving it, everyone discovered that underneath was an opening, and a clear stench of corpses emanated from inside.
Below were five highly decomposed corpses, which were the Liu family’s five members, and their time of death had already exceeded a month.
"How could this happen?" Qi Jingyun’s face was full of anger.
