The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 1964 Mellowed With Age

Chapter 1964 Mellowed With Age

"Matilda wasn't really a hands-on member, even in the Mortal World. She couldn't do too much because even as a Supreme, her power was too great for the world that she was in, so she either slept with most of her presence in the Chaos Plane, or she focused on keeping the world hidden during the downturns in the Ley Lines.

The planet has a rhythm, much like breathing, where there is a ten thousand year cycle between the Ley Lines being at the surface and them being deep underground.

During the downturns, the System goes inactive for the population, as they can't access the Ley Lines strongly enough to activate any of the functions. So, she was essentially left alone in the world without anyone to talk to.

Plus, she's a Chaos Dragon who can see the past and the future, that makes one a bit odd to start with."

The other Guild Members in the room all chuckled at the comment. The more powerful and ancient one became, the less grounded in reality they tended to be. Many of the leaders who had become Demigods struggled with anything that had been invented in the past few thousand years.

If they were on a world with even moderate amounts of technology, the level that could properly interact with magic and the System, they could be completely clueless.

But they were so powerful that nobody dared to call them out.

A few of the members didn't already know that Karl had come from Matilda's world, and the shock on their faces at the revelation quickly faded to understanding, as if the reason that Karl was the way that he was had suddenly become understandable.

They had no idea what they had just walked in to.

Remi was the first to join them, as she had sensed that something interesting was going on, and she had already formulated her training plan.

But she hadn't expected to find a whole room full of Supreme Ranked members of the Darklight Host.

At least not outside of an imminent battle.

And this didn't feel like one.

"{ So, what is the plan? You're all coming to visit until we've learned fun new things and the more powerful branches aren't embarrassed to admit that we're related? }" she asked, about as subtly as a slap to the face.

One of the members, who Karl immediately suspected was a shaman by her outfit, smiled at the Naga.

"Oh, you're not so lucky, little Alchemist.

We are all members from the Divine Battlefields, and we have been asked to transfer to this branch to stabilize it and to help build the knowledge base on this world.

If it's satisfactory, the Guild might offer resources to help start an outreach program. But more likely, they will send you new Immortals from some of the many mortal world branches.

There are at least a few a year, but they get spread out among all the lower Immortal worlds that we are active on, so it might only be a few a decade for this branch."

"{ Knowledge? I like knowledge. What do you have for books? Anything on Naga scale polishing techniques? I definitely think that there is a better way to get them perfect, but I haven't found it. }"

That was not where Karl thought that her curiosity would go, but that was apparently true for the rest of them as well.

"Uh, I'm not sure? I have something for Lamia scales, and a few generic spells for scales in general, but I'm not certain if I have a Naga specific one."

"{ That's better than I expected of a human. I will definitely be asking you about that later. }"

The Shaman laughed. "Oh, girl. I'm not human any more than you are. I'm a Green Dragon."

Remi wasn't buying it.

"{ You say that you're a green dragon, but you don't smell like the outdoors, and you haven't done anything weird or crazy yet. Even when there was a Naga in front of you. }"

That made the leader of the group laugh. "They calm down with age. At least a little bit. Now, if you were furry, she would likely be trying to curry favour with you by now, but as a distinguished follower of the Green Dragon who has served on the battlefield for many millennia, she is not as excitable as the children that you're used to from the Mortal worlds."

That was both unsurprising, and somewhat depressing.

To think, even Green Dragons could get jaded with age.

[Hehe, jaded. Get it? Because they're green.] Skadi laughed.

Remi resisted the urge to eye roll, as she was around new people, while Cara laughed hysterically at their new sister's humour. Skadi was showing promise already, and she had just joined them.

"Did you only just become a Pet Sitter? Miss Remi here is still quite young," the Shaman asked Karl, as Remi was already busying herself writing down questions to ask later.

"I was a Beast Master from Common Rank, so I've collected a full team of beasts. However, I advanced very quickly, so they're all still quite young and excitable. There are still a few very young ones, though.

A juvenile Forest Lord that just joined us, and a False Island Giant Turtle who only recently hatched.

So, you'll get to meet the full range of ages."

"A juvenile Forest Lord?" The Shaman asked eagerly.

"And there's the Green Dragon in her coming out. Yes, her name is Skadi. Let me see if she's available."

Since she was called, Skadi came out in human form, a precaution to prevent being chased and cuddled by the dragon. She knew their tricks, and she wasn't going to fall for it so easily.

"You really are a Forest Lord. Not a failed child, an actual Forest Lord. How were your parents convinced to give you up? Or were you orphaned?"

"I was actually the runt, and they traded me to Karl, who promised to help. And he did, so now I have my own forest to look after, and I'm doing so well. Actually, with the benefits of fast growth from the Beast Space, I think I'm actually bigger than my siblings now, so I wouldn't lose even if I went home."

"Oh? Then I will expect great things from you. Now, I suppose we should get to business before I get sidetracked."
