Chapter 2008 The Small Details

Karl inspected the temple, which looked completely normal inside, if you ignored the fact that it was about six times as large as the actual building, even before you got into the private areas where everyone would live.

Leon had even linked the windows to a point on the outside so that you could clearly see out, instead of having all windows be decorative or illusions.

That was a different method than Karl usually used, where the windows would show something that they thought would be pleasing to look at, instead of what was actually going on outside the building.

Then, they got into the back areas of the temple, which were designed with minimalist decorations, and all rounded corners, so there was nothing sharp for the blind to bump into, even though the Oracles usually had plenty of experience with regular housing.

"This is nice. Everywhere is soft corners, and there are braille instructions on the guide strip on the wall," one of the Oracles noted.

"You know braille?" Karl asked, which made Leon laugh.

"Unlike you, I am not a young man. Of course, I know braille. When you've lived as long as I have, you pick things up. That's also how I knew where to put the guide strip. The information is mostly the use of common rooms, or the room number of private rooms.

We also put different incense in different areas of the temple, so that if you happen to take a nap, you'll wake up knowing where you are just by scent."

The residents sniffed the air, and their eyes opened wide in delight. None of them had realized that the scents changed as they moved around the building, but Leon had made a map, showing that each floor of the residential area was different, and the major common areas had their own unique scents so that you would know right away if you had found the appropriate spot.

"And that scent will always be there? Or do we need to source the incense?"

Leon shook his head. "No, it's part of the building's magic. The scent will always be there, and there are actual incense burners in the design. There is no actual incense in them, but if you adjust them, they will increase or decrease the effect.

I know that many Immortals have a strong sense of scent, so it will be a balancing act between what works for everyone, and what is too strong for some."

The Priestess nodded. "That is a good point. Most of the residents are human, but we have a few dragonkin Oracles in the group. Their sense of smell is stronger, but not as strong as some of the demons or the bunnies."

Tian poked his own nose in agreement, and the priestess patted his head.

"Exactly. I think that this level should be fine. You're not sneezing or anything, and all the residents can smell the incense, I think. So, if we leave it like this, everyone will adapt. Once they've memorized the layout, this new building will be so much easier to get around than the others.

You even textured the floor so that everyone knows where to go if they're not along the walls."

Leon gestured to the bumps on the tiles. "If you travel using a cane, the bumps tell you what way you're going, and they have a different shape at intersections, so you can feel and hear the difference. If you're walking in socks, or with bare feet, that works as well, but the bumps can be hard on human feet.

Seraphim quite like them, they're like a foot massage."

Karl removed his boots and stepped on the tiles, then smiled. "You're right, those aren't bad at all. I might need to add them in the Guild House."

"{ Or, you could just ask the bunnies to massage your paws. That's what I do, and it's wonderful. They've got real skills. }" Tian suggested.

The Priestesses laughed at Tian's earnest suggestion. There was no way that it would be as easy for Karl to get a foot massage as it was for the little fox.

Tian had an aura that just made you want to pick him up and hold him, and if Leon wasn't carrying him around to show them the new building, one of them would definitely be carrying Tian at this point.

How much actual walking the little fox did was definitely questionable.

With their tour finished, the Oracles were led to their bedrooms. That made the Priestesses realize that the building was under half full, which would give them more than enough space to expand, if they needed to rehouse more Oracles in the future.

"We've also added some new clothing for you, courtesy of Sister Opal. She's a Dreamcloth tailor, and thought that you could use some new robes.

She also donated robes for the Oracles, as Dreamcloth has a synergistic effect on vision and illusion type skills. The outfits might help stabilize some of the visions. It's just one more small step, along with the embedded holy magic, that will help make your life here easier," Leon explained.

Dana gave him a suspicious look, but Leon just shrugged.

The clothing that Opal had made was no more revealing than what they were wearing, and the outfits for the Oracles were actually lightweight but padded in high-impact areas, like cloth armour.

It would be comfortable to wear all day, but also help protect knees and elbows from impacts.

It wasn't quite bubble wrapping the Oracles, but it was getting close to it.

"Well, it looks like we've got everything in order. You even stocked the rooms with toiletries, bedding and towels. Tell me, have you done this sort of work before?"

Leon shrugged. "Not exactly this, but I've done a number of hospital remodels before, and this is just a mixture of essential functions from both a hospital and a temple, plus some features for the blind.

Not a huge strain on my design skills."

Karl was sure that he was being modest, this place was a masterpiece. But the Priestesses were quite satisfied with it, and that was the important part.
