Chapter 2011 Pick A Difficulty

Chapter 2011 Pick A Difficulty

Karl led the group inside, taking note of who was in their spaces.

Hawk was resting in his usual branch, and Remi was working on a new recipe in her swamp, as the labs in the Tiny World and the Guild House were both working on products for sale. Everyone else was busy with something, and even Cara hadn't snuck back in to cause chaos at the last moment.

The moment that the whole group was inside the dungeon, a message appeared.

{Please select your difficulty level between 1 and 5}

Karl looked at the group. "This is all on you. I'm good with any of the options, but I can't guarantee that some of you won't get one shot killed on the highest difficulties."

"They're that bad?"

Karl nodded. "Maximum difficulty is no joke. But the rewards should be equally impressive. The System is in charge of them, and it tends to reward feats of strength very well."

The group quietly conferred for a second, then came to Karl for verification.

"So, if we consider 1 to be easy mode, and 5 to be hell mode, then 3 should be hard, right? With 2 being average or normal?"

Karl nodded. "That sounds about right. The first two are the ones that it expects nearly everyone to be able to do. Three gets actually challenging if you don't have the right group, and in five, you need to be able to adapt to nearly anything, or so overpowered that you just steamroll the dungeon."

That confirmed their assessment. Five definitely wasn't a setting that they wanted to try. And they were relying on Karl for basically everything but damage, as their designated "tank" wasn't actually specialized in defence.

"Let's go with three. Difficulty three should be good."

{Difficulty 3 selected. Generating Opponents.}

The dungeon filled with Plague Demons, and Karl smiled as he realized that he was going to get some new Epic Golem summons out of this one.

Not cute ones, that was for sure, but likely unique.

"So, what makes you so confident that you can do any role? I see what we're up against, and those demons are incredibly durable. We've got decent damage, but they're going to do a lot of poison damage as well, that will need to be cleansed."

Karl nodded. "I will send you a few front-line assistants, and then we can go. Do you prefer fast-moving or high damage per hit?"

One of the Clan Leaders chuckled. "Caster's call. Whatever you think will be best."

Karl nodded, and then cast [Epic Golem] to create a pair of Carnage demons.

Following that, Karl added his regular and [Greater Golems] giving them a total of six for the front lines. That was enough to impress the entire group, given the power level of the Epic Golems.

Then, he followed it with just two Dryads from the [Army of Nature's Vengeance] spell, and nodded toward the first group.

"Carnage, you're up. I limited the number of summoned beasts this time, so you get to fight more."

The huge red demon smiled back at Karl, then laughed.

"I knew you were a good guy. Off we go, don't fall behind."

The rest of the group gave Karl a strange look, but he just waved them forward as he skipped hand in hand with the Dryads.

The crazier they thought that he was, the better.

They only had to know that he was powerful, and Carnage would prove that in about two seconds once he ... there it was.

Two massive axes began to hack through the smaller plague demons of the first group, spraying foul ichor everywhere, while the other Golems surrounded them to prevent anyone from fleeing.

In true Cerro fashion, the Greater Golems, who looked more like Thor when he was young every time that Karl summoned them, slammed into the group and hurled them back toward Carnage, who swatted at them like a tennis ball, with the flat of his axe.

The rest of the group stared in horror as what should have been a powerful opponent was pummelled into paste by the combination of Cerro and Wrath Demon.

The fact that there were more golems, or that the pair of Dryad Queens with Karl had cast a vine rope around the plague demons that was holding them in place for Carnage to mangle, was not lost on the group.

They were a mere three steps behind when the fight started, but they nearly missed half of the first pull.

Seeing that someone was coming to steal their kills, Carnage went all out, using their grand finishing move [Magma Slam], which smashed their axes into the ground, and created an earthquake zone, where the earth split and molten stone burst upward to burn the targets in the affected zone.

It was utterly terrifying for the warriors, all of whom had been on the wrong side of that attack at least once in the past, as Carnage was also a boss in a few other demon-based dungeons.

Karl added a [Spatial Quake] to the mix, finishing the first group before any of the others even got to attack.

"Alright, one group down, the big attacks will be on cooldown, so you should get in on the next one. We will make this a fast fight," Karl informed them.

"We should have picked difficulty four. One for us, three for Karl," the group leader muttered.

Carnage laughed and patted the man on the shoulder.

"Who's keeping score? The dungeon will give everyone their loot at the end just the same."

The Clan Leaders gritted their teeth and ran alongside the Demons to the next group, while the greater Golems pranced beside them, fully convinced that this whole dungeon was a game.

However, the next pull was not nearly as weak as the last one.

It had a pair of Plague Riders, demons on giant flying wasps that spewed poison as a ranged attack.

Those were not easy for Carnage to catch, so he went for what was on the ground, and left the flying pair to the others. If they were here to help, they could do the annoying parts.
