Chapter 522: The Weight We Carry ( Suggested Song: An Isolated Moment - Keith Merril)

The sight should have unleashed an uproar. Instead, the entire venue froze. A twenty-meter Gravari had been stripped of his will and forced to kneel before one man, yet not even Gamble dared interrupt the note holding the arena captive.

Within Levi’s Spiritual Leywell, the reaction transcended the physical plane.

Every Tenant had turned toward the lake... even the Omnithars ignored the enslaved behemoth to study what was occurring inside Levi.

The water was dancing.

Its surface swelled into broad tides whenever Levi drew the bow, then rolled toward the opposite shore as his wrist reversed.

At its center, Levi’s soul mirrored every movement of his physical body, one hand pressing invisible strings while the other guided an unseen bow.

Each motion released a vibration across the lake, through the inner realm, and into the darkness wrapped around Burden Collector.

"He reached it," Ash’Kral murmured.

The Titan glanced at him. "The Melody Aspect?"

"Something beyond merely using it," Ash’Kral replied, his gaze fixed on Levi’s soul. "He has entered a higher plane of emotional resonance. Before, he placed his feelings inside the melody and used it to guide his power. Now, the melody carries those emotions into his soul, and his soul returns them to the world as vibrations."

Another tide rose with the sustained note.

"His emotions, soul, music, and Aspect are no longer separate," Ash’Kral continued. "They have become one intent moving at one frequency... that is why the darkness follows him so naturally without him using the Void Form inside the Shadow Dimension."

Only then did The Titan and the Omnithar understand what they were witnessing... the darkness was no longer dancing to Levi’s violin.

It was dancing to Levi’s soul!

Outside, no one spoke... no one dared disturb the violin.

Levi’s spiritual and dark energy drained rapidly as Burden Collector’s soul fought the enhanced Darkness Coating, but Levi planned to enslave him only for a few moments.

"Hand over your core," he ordered without breaking the sustained note.

The giant’s arm trembled as his fingers pierced his chest and closed around the gray core, but Levi altered the pitch and forced him to rip it free.

Sponge-like fibers snapped as a dark tendril rose from the ocean, wrapped around the core, and dragged it beyond Burden Collector’s reach.

Only when Levi appeared next to the core, a great distance away, did the rhythm turn lighter.

The dark currents released the giant’s head and slowly withdrew while Levi shared his temporary freedom... remembering yesterday without being crushed by it and facing tomorrow without fear.

’So beautiful...’

Captivated, Mournful Spirit clutched her biwa against her chest while her fingers moved above its strings without touching them. She knew that joining him now wouldn’t be an accompaniment... it would be an intrusion.

"Three movements..." she whispered, her ghostly smile drawing uneasy glances from the surrounding Rifters. "He composed the entire battle in three movements."

Her eyes remained fixed on Levi.

"The first was Understanding... low, hesitant notes searching through the emptiness left by his burdens."

The dark currents flowed across the giant’s empty chest.

"Then came Conquest." Mournful Spirit’s slender fingers hovered over the strings. "The hesitation vanished. He accepted his burdens... then forced the Collector carrying them to kneel."

The currents descended upon Burden Collector’s knees as the composition softened.

"And now... Freedom."

The opening phrase returned, stripped of every doubt that once weighed upon it.

"For this one moment," she whispered, "yesterday cannot break him... and tomorrow cannot frighten him... and he was so kind to share such a masterpiece with everyone."

As her murmurs faded away, the viewers’ reactions matched her statement... tense shoulders relaxed, clenched hands opened, and some viewers laughed through their tears without understanding why.

They couldn’t interpret the three movements as clearly as Mournful Spirit, but their bodies experienced every answer Levi had found.

She had entered the game hoping to find out whose melodies were better... now, that desire seemed painfully small.

She wanted to hear every composition he had hidden behind that silent mask... what he played when he was angry, what escaped his strings when he was afraid, and what kind of song someone like him could create when genuinely happy.

With every passing note, admiration deepened into intimacy.

She knew nothing about the man beneath the hood, yet she was already falling in love with the honesty of his music.

Her own melodies understood grief and decay... they mourned what had been lost and gave sorrow a voice.

Levi’s music accepted that sorrow without surrendering to it, making her wonder for the first time whether a song could lead someone out of mourning instead of merely accompanying them through it.

Reaching such a state was her dream...

"How cruel..." Mournful Spirit murmured affectionately as she hugged her biwa closer. "You made temporary freedom sound eternal."

Her smile widened as the third movement approached its end.

"Now I have to hear what you play when the burdens return."

Levi felt it right away... the burdens moving back in, leaving him with a shallow smile. He knew such freedom was never his to keep, and he had already accepted it.

"If you have a Resignation Token, use it," Levi said while the gentle passage continued. "I am not fond of unnecessary killing either."

Burden Collector regained control, his body shrinking rapidly against his will until he was no bigger than a child... the darkness still held his core far beyond his reach. He knew whatever he had in mind... Levi was faster.

"I am afraid mine is still on its three-game cooldown."

A small smile appeared on Burden Collector’s face as his gaze landed on the violin beneath Levi’s chin.

The residue of the fear he had absorbed still trembled inside him, but so did the peace released by the final movement.

Neither emotion belonged to him, yet through Levi’s burdens, he had understood every note.

"Strange..." he murmured. "I have heard countless songs, but yours is the first I have ever felt."

His cute smile widened a little as the last phantom vibrations faded from his body, returning him to his emotionless state before his approaching death.

"It was beautiful." He closed his eyes. "I appreciate the merciful gesture... and the performance. Make it quick."

"It was a great battle."

Levi answered with one sharp stroke of the bow, and the darkness holding the core flattened into a Void blade that sliced it in half.

The gray light vanished.

Burden Collector’s sponge-like flesh stiffened before crumbling into pale dust... and everything he had taken returned to Levi all at once.

The liberated passage turned to a soft tune as every burden returned... exhaustion filled his bones, grief seized his heart, hatred burned behind his blindfold, and responsibility reclaimed its weight on his shoulders.

Levi’s bow faltered for the first time, releasing a wounded note so raw that Jasmine’s smile faded while tears gathered in the eyes of viewers carrying similar burdens.

Some supported entire families, knowing that resting meant someone they loved would go hungry.

Others had buried loved ones but kept moving because responsibility never paused for grief.

Some survivors had returned alone from battle and spent years wondering why death had chosen everyone beside them instead.

Some smiled through every conversation, terrified that admitting how exhausted they felt would break the people depending on them.

The note knew none of their stories, yet it found them all.

It promised neither rescue nor relief... it merely told them they weren’t weak for struggling underneath a weight they had chosen to carry.

Then Levi’s fingers steadied, and the melody steadied with him.

He was not healed or liberated... but willing to continue despite it all, and this single note was enough to start a fire within these viewers’ hearts as well.

Levi wove each burden into the closing phrase, allowing grief to exist beside love, fear beside courage, and exhaustion beside resolve.

Assuring himself and everyone else to keep on going, keep on striding, keep on surviving... as a better future awaits only those willing to keep moving... regardless of the pain.

’These burdens are mine,’ Levi decided while drawing out the final note. ’And I will carry them until I can finally put them down with my own two hands.’

The darkness gathered around his feet as the closing tone softened, lingered throughout the silent venue, and faded with his last exhale.

Only then did Levi lift the bow from the strings and dismiss the Requiem Violin, its dark frame dissolving into a flurry of pitch-black flowers.

The final note had faded, but its meaning remained as every familiar burden pressed against his soul once more.

"The Weight We Carry..."

The name came to him naturally.

It had never been a melody about escaping pain... It was about understanding where that pain came from, refusing to kneel before it, and finding the strength to continue carrying it.

A soft smile touched Levi’s lips behind the mask.

As reactions flooded the livestream, luminous tears began falling from the sky, transforming the emotions of hundreds of millions, out of billions, into a gentle rain over the ruined arena... The Rifters and livestream viewers were stunned by this mesmerizing scenery, as they knew that it was fabricated by Gamemaster Gamble.

Levi too.

But he didn’t care.

Bathing under the rain of tears, Levi raised his hooded face and gazed at two announcements that appeared among them.

[MANDATORY DUEL CONCLUDED.]
