As dawn approached, a faint streak of light began to appear in the eastern sky. The dim morning rays pierced through the thick clouds, casting beams of light onto every eave of Shengdu.
Han Ye had been sitting in the chair for half the night.
Qi Xuan had sealed his acupoint to prevent him from stopping his second uncle, Han Yong, from marching to his death.
Though the acupoint had naturally released itself half an hour ago, Han Ye knew that it was already too late.
He sat there in a daze, the morning light streaming through the window lattices, casting over his strong, handsome profile, with rays of multicolored light dancing in the dust.
Creak——
The door was pushed open.
It was Qi Xuan who entered.
He glanced at Han Ye, noting that the sealed acupoint had been released. After closing the door, he said heavily, "Your second uncle is gone."
"Where's the body?" Han Ye asked.
He felt as though his soul had been drained.
Upon hearing this devastating news, he could no longer feel shocked, nor could he shed any more tears.
He had already mourned all he could in the past two hours.
Now, all that remained in his heart was hatred——endless, unrelenting hatred!
Qi Xuan came up to him, "The Han Family will take care of it, you don’t need to concern yourself anymore."
Han Ye’s eyes were empty, and he gave a mocking laugh, "Has my grandfather truly become so ruthless, that even his own son’s body won’t be properly buried?"
Qi Xuan sighed, "The Emperor is extremely furious."
Han Ye clenched his fists, "That’s his own son!" He was still referring to the Han Family's head, his grandfather.
Qi Xuan added, "A son born of a concubine."
Han Ye closed his eyes in sorrow and turned his face away.
A son born of a concubine.
That’s right. His Second Uncle was a concubine's son, but he was a more outstanding concubine's son than any legitimate sons. If the Han Family's resources had ever been allocated to his Second Uncle, his martial skills and achievements would have far surpassed his own!
Yet, his Second Uncle never uttered a word of complaint. When told to infiltrate the Xuanyuan Family as a spy, he went to the Xuanyuan Family as a spy. When asked to poison Xuanyuan Li's youngest son, he poisoned Xuanyuan Li's youngest son.
What had his Second Uncle ever done for himself?
Nothing. Even after returning triumphant from battle, all the credit went to his father.
His Second Uncle silently guarded the family from behind, protecting everyone.
Han Ye gave a bitter smile, "Master must have noticed, right? My Second Uncle was a martial arts prodigy."
Qi Xuan nodded, "In one night, he mastered the entire Tang Sect’s swordsmanship. It took you half a month back then."
Han Ye let out a cold, harsh laugh, "My grandfather and father will never realize what they’ve lost. Losing Second Uncle is the greatest loss to the Han Family!"
On this point, Qi Xuan made no comment.
Life was inherently unequal. There was no comparison between people.
Even if Second Master Han was indeed a greater genius than Han Ye, his birth determined that he would only ever serve as a stepping stone.
Han Ye was the eldest legitimate grandson, and his very existence was the faith and strength of the Han Family.
As long as he was there, the belief of the Han Family would remain.
Qi Xuan patted Han Ye on the shoulder, earnestly advising, "He did it not only for you but for the entire Han Family. You must not let this incident create a rift between you and your grandfather. The deposed Crown Princess's faction is not easy to deal with. With such a powerful enemy ahead, you must pull yourself together."
Han Ye asked, "What excuse did they use?"
Qi Xuan said, "A personal grudge with the Eldest Imperial Grandson. He said he accidentally encountered the Eldest Imperial Grandson in Shengdu, which led him to harbor evil intentions. He withstood all forty-nine stages of extreme torture, proving that he wasn’t lying."
Han Ye said, "Wasn't it the rule that if one endured the torture, the matter wouldn't be pursued further?"
That was the rule set by the Emperor back then.
The torture was meant to force confessions, and no one had ever survived half of it. If someone truly made it through, the Emperor would respect them as a true man and release them.
Qi Xuan fell silent.
Han Ye understood, "It was my grandfather, wasn’t it?"
A concubine’s son who attempted to assassinate the Eldest Imperial Grandson would doom the entire Han Family. If he had died halfway through the punishment, it might have been better, as it would have appeased the Emperor's anger. But since he survived, the Emperor's fury had no outlet and would inevitably fall upon the Han Family.
So, his grandfather killed his own concubine-born son to show the Emperor the Han Family's loyalty!
Han Ye slammed his fist into the pillar beside him.
Qi Xuan tried to console him, "The head of the Han Family was thinking of the bigger picture."
Han Ye clenched his fists tightly, "I don't believe the Emperor's appearance was a coincidence. But I was very careful not to leak my plan."
Qi Xuan analyzed, "Then it must have leaked from the Crown Prince's side. Someone knew you were going to assassinate Xiao Liulang and deliberately led the Emperor there. However, Xiao Liulang did have some luck. The Emperor arrived late. If you hadn’t been delayed by that gyrfalcon, you would have succeeded by then."
Han Ye said coldly, "That gyrfalcon, I will catch and kill it sooner or later!"
Qi Xuan sat down beside him, "A gyrfalcon is nothing to fear. What’s urgent now is figuring out how the information leaked from the Crown Prince’s side. The Crown Prince wouldn’t want you to fail, so it wasn’t him. Either someone under him slipped up, or it was intentional. If it’s the latter, you and the Crown Prince need to be on guard."
Han Ye clenched his fists, "There’s a traitor by the Crown Prince’s side!"
Qi Xuan said, "That's very likely. You'd better have the Crown Prince investigate the people around him."
Han Ye said somberly, "I understand. Thank you, Master. Now that Second Uncle is gone, I’ll have to trouble you even more."
Qi Xuan said, "It’s no trouble for me; it’s the Han Family that’s in trouble. This matter won’t end just because Han Yong confessed and accepted his punishment. Your third uncle has been dismissed from his position, and your cousin's newly taken over iron mine has also been forcibly surrendered. I’ve heard that the Nangong Family and the Mu Family are both setting their sights on the Black Wind Cavalry. You’d better be careful."
Han Ye laughed bitterly, "How ridiculous. Just yesterday, the Han Family was arguing over how to divide up the military power of the Nangong Family. Today, the Han Family's Black Wind Cavalry have become the meat on the chopping block."
Qi Xuan glanced at him and said, "It hasn’t come to that yet, but if you make another mistake, who knows."
……
The Imperial Palace.
The Emperor finally learned about his baldness after angrily scolding the Han Family’s head and dealing with the second son of the Han Family.
Everyone had seen it, but no one dared to speak up.
After all, besides the coachman and Zhang Dequan, they didn’t even know how the Emperor's head had become bald. Anyway, wasn’t this a mad monarch? He shaves his own hair when he goes mad—what's so strange about that?
It was the Little County Princess going to school who came to find her imperial uncle to send her off, only to discover that her imperial uncle had turned into a monk.
She widened her innocent almond-shaped eyes, her small mouth unable to close for a long time, "Imperial uncle, are you going to become a monk?"
The Emperor was stunned for a moment and said, "No."
The Little County Princess then asked, "Then why is your hair——"
The Emperor reached up to touch his head, and his whole being fell apart!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
