"How did the Little County Princess run off on her own? Is she really that brave?" The Chen family's bodyguard was astonished.
When he had found her earlier, the Little County Princess had seemed like a frightened little rabbit.
The Dong Family’s bodyguard asked, "Was it done by someone from another noble family?"
The Du Family’s bodyguard snorted, "What’s the point of talking about that now? We five were fighting like mad here, only for someone else to reap the rewards. I’m sure none of us can swallow this anger."
The Chen family’s bodyguard gritted his teeth, "If I find out who did it, I’ll kill him!"
Meanwhile, Little Jing Kong dragged the Little County Princess as they ran frantically all the way.
The sky grew darker, and the forest around them was filled with a growing sense of danger.
They couldn't go any further in——they had to find a way out!
Just as this thought crossed Little Jing Kong's mind, a figure suddenly descended from the sky, blocking the path of both him and the Little County Princess.
"It’s you!"
Little Jing Kong recognized the other party immediately; it was the street vendor who had grabbed away the Little County Princess earlier in the day.
The vendor curled his lips in amusement, "Kid, your memory’s pretty sharp. Ah, what do you call this? In your scholarly terms, isn’t it ‘searching all over in vain, only to find it without any effort’?"
Little Jing Kong eyed him warily.
"Y-you're not allowed to come any closer!" The Little County Princess said, sounding both scared and fierce.
The vendor chuckled, "Princess, rest assured, I have no intention of hurting you. As long as you come with me obediently, I guarantee you’ll be returned unharmed."
The Little County Princess clung tightly to Little Jing Kong's hand, "You're a big bad guy, a smelly child trafficker! I’m not going with you!"
"Child trafficker" was something Little Jing Kong had explained to the Little County Princess while they were hiding in the cave.
The vendor coaxed patiently, "It's getting dark. Soon, the wolves, tigers, and leopards of the forest will come out. If Little County Princess doesn’t come with me, do you really want to be eaten by those wolves and tigers?"
"I... I… I..." The Little County Princess trembled in fear, her small body shaking.
She... she didn’t want to be eaten.
Little Jing Kong grabbed the Little County Princess and turned to run, but immediately spotted another figure, the man in black, on the other side.
This was what people meant by being caught between a wolf in front and a tiger behind.
"Stop wasting time. That group will be here soon. We all know you're skilled in martial arts, but I've heard that Taoist Qingfeng of the Feng Family and Qi Xuan from the Han Family are already out looking for the Little County Princess."
The vendor frowned, "Fine, take the Little County Princess and let's go!"
"And what about this brat?"
"Forget him, leave him here to feed the wolves."
Hearing this, the Little County Princess, who had been so scared she was crying, suddenly summoned her courage and spread her arms in front of Little Jing Kong to protect him, "You’re not allowed to feed Jing Kong to the wolves!"
The vendor chuckled, clearly not taking the Little County Princess's threat seriously, and swaggered towards the two little ones.
Suddenly, Little Jing Kong reached into his pocket, grabbed something, and threw a round object at him.
The vendor caught it between his fingers and laughed.
It was just a fruit. Clearly, this was a naive, foolish child.
Little Jing Kong had gathered quite a few fruits earlier. He had already thrown what was in his clothes, but there were still some left in his pockets.
He quickly grabbed another seven or eight fruits and tossed them toward the vendor.
The vendor didn’t even bother dodging.
Just as he thought the last one was another fruit, it exploded with a loud bang!
Fortunately, he was skilled in martial arts and moved fast, or else he would have been injured by the blast!
The vendor landed on a tree branch and looked at the stubborn, frighteningly composed child with disdain.
The boy remained calm, showing no signs of panic from start to finish.
There was an indescribable determination in his eyes.
This child wasn’t afraid of him!
The vendor clenched his fist.
It was just a child, so why did he find it so hard to look directly into the boy's eyes?
And moreover——
He seemed to sense some sort of threat coming from this child.
This was too strange!
A thought suddenly flashed through his mind—this child must not be left alive. This forest wouldn’t be able to kill him! One day, when he grew up, he would become a presence that everyone would fear!
A strong murderous intent flashed within the vendor’s eyes.
He leaped into the air, extending his evil hand, ruthlessly aiming to twist Little Jing Kong's neck!
The force of this strike was something no five-year-old could evade.
His hand grasped around Little Jing Kong’s throat.
However, just then, something completely unexpected happened.
From above, a piercing cry of a falcon suddenly echoed through the sky, followed by the sound of something slicing through the air beneath the screech!
A gleaming silver spear with a red tassel shot toward the vendor at lightning speed, its force like a thunderbolt, heading straight for him!
What speed!
The vendor quickly tried to dodge!
But it was too late. The tremendous force knocked him flying, and his entire arm was severed by the red-tasseled silver spear!
He crashed heavily at the feet of the man in black, blood splattering everywhere!
The red-tasseled silver spear, after severing his arm, showed no sign of slowing down and embedded itself deep into the tree behind them.
The man in black broke out in cold sweat.
He looked in disbelief toward the other side of the forest, where he saw a youth, about fifteen or sixteen, galloping toward them.
The youth’s frame was slender, “his” gaze sharp, and “he” didn’t appear to have come from the depths of the forest; “he” seemed like someone returning from hell to exact revenge.
A god of slaughter, a demonic warrior!
The horse the youth was riding wasn’t an exceptional steed, but it seemed to sense the youth's battle intent and became incredibly valiant. It moved with remarkable agility, its form cutting through the dense forest as if walking on flat ground.
As the horse dashed past the two little children, Gu Jiao swung her whip, pulling the two up onto the horse.
“Close your eyes.”
She commanded.
The two little ones obediently raised their small hands and covered their eyes.
Gu Jiao squeezed her legs around the horse's belly, holding the two children securely with one arm, while using the other to steer the horse as it leaped over the heads of the man in black and the vendor.
The moment the horse's hooves touched the ground, Gu Jiao coldly pulled the red-tasseled silver spear from the tree.
The spear, which had nearly pierced through the entire tree, was effortlessly pulled out by her.
She gripped the spear tightly, spun it over her head, and swung it backward in one swift motion.
The man in black and the vendor, who had just stood up to launch a sneak attack, both collapsed to the ground.
…Their heads rolling away with a thud.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
