Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

“That was ages ago, why bring it up again…” Gu Chenglin mumbled aggrievedly. Scratching at his… bald head, he whispered, “But if I stay here, I’ll have to obey Grandmother’s demand… to carry Gu Jinyu on my back… and I don’t want to!”

Gu Chengfeng shot his brother a doubtful look, still pondering, when suddenly Grannie Zhang’s voice sounded from outside the courtyard.

“Third Young Master, are you awake yet? second young miss is almost ready, it’s time for you to come over.”

Gu Chenglin immediately pressed close to his brother and whispered urgently, “Did you hear that? Did you hear that?”

Gu Chengfeng nearly had his eardrum blown out. He waved him off. “Alright, alright, I heard.”

He loathed Gu Jinyu and certainly wouldn’t let his younger brother be forced into carrying her to the bridal sedan. Grabbing Gu Chenglin’s wrist, he used his qinggong to whisk him away.

“Heh, we’ll definitely be the first to arrive.”

Landing outside the estate, Gu Chengfeng released Gu Chenglin’s wrist and smugly clapped his hands.

Gu Chenglin stretched his fingers one by one. “First? Then which of us doesn’t count as a person?”

Gu Chengfeng: “…”

……

At the newly arranged courtyard of Marquis Xuanping Estate, Princess Xinyang was tying a festive sash and red flower to Little Jing Kong, then setting a tiny bridegroom’s cap on his head.

A miniature bridegroom was born.

Little Jing Kong had followed the new bridal bed to the Marquis Estate a few days prior. Originally, his task had just been to “press the bed,” but afterward, to make sure no one else used it before the wedding, he had simply moved in, standing guard over JiaoJiao’s bed every night.

By this twist of fate, he had earned himself the chance to join the bridal procession.

Xiao Heng had dressed himself alone. The moment he entered the room, he saw a miniature bridegroom dressed exactly like him, down to the last detail. The corner of his mouth couldn’t help but twitch.

“What are you doing?” He asked.

“I’m going to marry JiaoJiao too!” Little Jing Kong planted his hands on his hips, righteously declaring.

Xiao Heng gave a dry laugh. “A bridegroom has to ride a horse. You don’t have one, so you can’t go.”

“Who says I don’t have a horse?” Little Jing Kong turned to the gate and shouted in a loud, commanding voice, “Little Eleven!”

With its little braids tied up, a big red flower perched on its head, and fiery crimson lipstick painted on its lips, the horse king dashed swiftly into the courtyard!

Xiao Heng’s body trembled at the sight of the blinding spectacle.

Wasn’t this horse left behind in the State of Yan?

How on earth did it show up here!

——The three-year-old horse king, with full points in tracking skills, considered this no challenge at all.

In truth, it had only appeared last night. Originally, Gu Jiao had chosen a gentle young Black Wind Cavalry mount for Little Jing Kong.

But when Little Jing Kong went to fetch it, he unexpectedly stumbled upon the horse king, secretly bullying the little cavalry horse into guiding it to find Gu Jiao.

“Little Eleven!”

Hearing that devilish little voice, the horse king was so startled it did a split on the spot!

But of course, it was no use at all.

Little Jing Kong decisively dragged it into Marquis Xuanping Estate.

At this moment, a child-sized saddle was secured on the horse king’s back. It was Gu Jiao who had drawn the design, and Gu Xiaoshun had personally crafted it.

Little Jing Kong marched out with great vigor and politely said to the guards in the courtyard, “Please lift me up, thank you.”

A guard picked him up and placed him on the horse’s back.

He fastened the buckles with practiced ease, and brimming with pride, he declared, “I’m going to fetch JiaoJiao now!”

Everyone in the courtyard could barely contain their laughter.

But how could Xiao Heng possibly lose to a little monk?

With a low chuckle, he stepped out of the courtyard, vaulted onto his tall, majestic steed.

Little Jing Kong was the adorable little bridegroom.

Xiao Heng was the Xiao Family’s young master of peerless elegance, dressed in splendid robes, mounted on a fine steed, unrivaled in the capital of Zhao, breathtakingly handsome, and unmatched in brilliance.

In his presence, all of heaven and earth seemed to dim in an instant.

Though his handsome face still carried a trace of youthful purity, his eyes held the calmness and allure of a man fully grown.

Princess Xinyang, looking at him, felt an unexpected surge of melancholy and reluctance well up in her heart.

Her son had grown up… truly grown up…

……

At the hour of maoshi(5-7 am), Gu Jiao pressed a final touch of crimson onto her lips.

The Matron of Honor gazed steadily at the radiant and resplendent bride, gave a satisfied nod, and set the bridal veil over Gu Jiao’s head.

And almost at that exact same moment, the sound of gongs and drums echoed from outside the estate.

Yu Ya’er’s eyes lit up. “Guye is here!”

……

“Has the bridegroom arrived?”

The bride shot up to her feet, and the bridal veil in Madame Sun’s hands slipped before it could cover her.

Madame Sun steadied herself and said to Gu Jinyu, “Young Miss Gu, please sit back down. The bridegroom shouldn’t be here so soon, right? The auspicious hour hasn’t arrived yet.”

Realizing her loss of composure, Gu Jinyu slowly sat back onto the chair and said, “Chunliu, go take a look.”

“Yes, young miss.” Chunliu turned and went out.

She came back quickly, her expression somewhat grim. Her hand clutched tightly at the handkerchief, and she lowered her head without saying a word.

That sudden movement earlier had knocked Gu Jinyu’s phoenix coronet askew, and Madame Sun was in the middle of adjusting it for her.

Gu Jinyu glanced at Chunliu and asked, “What’s wrong? Speak up, don’t stammer.”

The sound of gongs and drums outside grew increasingly boisterous. Chunliu whispered a report, but it was soon drowned out by the clamor outside.

Gu Jinyu reminded herself that today was her wedding day, so she must remain cheerful and not lose her temper.

“Speak louder.” She told Chunliu.

Biting the bullet, Chunliu raised her voice a little and repeated, “The one outside isn’t Third Young Master Quan… it is… it is the Little Marquis of Zhao.”

So the bridegroom had indeed arrived; only, it was not the second son-in-law, but the eldest son-in-law.

Gu Jinyu clenched her fingers tightly.

There was still at least an hour before departure. Had Xiao Heng gotten it wrong?

Surely he couldn’t have been so foolish as to deliberately come this early.

They had already been husband and wife back in the countryside, was there really any need to put on a pretense as though the marriage had never happened?

“Young Miss Gu, please don’t move.” Madame Sun reminded her a step too late. Gu Jinyu, trembling with anger, twitched and the phoenix coronet snagged her hair, making her suck in a sharp breath of pain.

In all her years as a Matron of Honor, Madame Sun had never encountered such a situation. Though not exactly grave, it was, after all, not auspicious.

Naturally, she dared not voice it aloud. She smiled instead and said to Gu Jinyu, “Your hair bun has loosened. Let me comb it again for you.”

Gu Jinyu knew herself that she had lost composure, and she could not blame the Matron of Honor. She drew in a deep breath to suppress her temper and said in her usual tone to Chunliu, “By the way, didn’t you go call my father just now? Has Father still not gotten up?”

How would Chunliu dare to tell her that Lord Marquis had long been dragged away by the Old Marquis?

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
