Chapter 523: Step into the time 1000 years before today

"So this is the Temple of Time, huh?" Gwen was in awe as they all stepped inside the place, taken aback by its beauty. The temple was crafted with the same love as a Royal Castle, with clear signs of it being handled with the utmost care.

"Wait, say that again?" Kai could have sworn a game he played had a location called the ’Temple of Time’, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.

"U-Um, I said that this is the Temple of Time," Gwen repeated herself.

"Wait! Don’t shoot, please. I’m just a priestess. I’ve come to welcome you to the temple. Chieftess Peneope and Goddess Aera informed me that you six would be coming here, so I prepared for your arrival."

"Did she now? And how do we know that you’re not a demon in disguise?!" Gwen pointed her staff at the priestess.

Haile led the group to a hall where a massive window overlooked the nothingness that was the town trapped in time. Kai could still see the temporal fluctuations around the area and tried to peek inside, but his eyes started to hurt, so he stopped.

"We’ve documented everything over the past one thousand years, and I explain everything to you now." Halie pointed toward the window.

"As you can see, there is nothing outside, but there is actually a large dome that keeps this town, which was supposed to be here, trapped in time. To prevent people from blindly entering the place, this temple was created around the town with the aid of Goddess Aera and Empress Telia."

’No wonder this place is so pristine.’ Kai understood now.

"When people come here to attempt to free this town, they are forfeiting their lives. No one in history has ever managed to pull it off. Let me tell you this before you enter, and hopefully, you might rethink entering the town."

"What is it?"

"There are only two ways you can leave the town, and that’s either if you successfully kill that rogue god in that place, or if you die."

Amaya frowned. "Dying isn’t escaping, it’s just dying."

"Eh, in a way, it is escaping," Kai responded. "Also, if I’m not mistaken, there’s a time loop going on within the town, right? Would the people who died not come back to life?"

"To be honest, we don’t know. However, Goddess Aera told us that the people who enter aren’t a part of the timeloop since they came from the outside, but they are still affected by the time stopping and loop as long as they don’t die."

Kai understood. "So as long as we don’t die, we’ll be affected by the time there, I see. That makes sense."

Haile smiled and then sighed. "Listen, if you guys are doing this for the fame and glory, please stop. Too many people have lost their lives trying to do what you’re doing. Do you see these walls? The names on them? That’s everyone who attempted to save this town. And these names are only the ones we documented after the construction of this temple, so imagine the thousands of people who attempted this before the temple was made."

The names were engraved into the walls so perfectly that Kai didn’t even notice that they were names until Haile pointed them out. He honestly thought they were pretty cool wall designs.

"I’ll give you some time to think about it. In the meantime, you are free to explore the temple and ask the priestesses any questions that cross your mind. Once you have made your decision, please find me in the room over to the left." She bowed and then walked into the room.

"Babe, can we explore around for a bit?" Gwen wanted to see what this temple had to offer before leaving because she didn’t know when they would be back.

"Sure, I kind of want to explore as well."

"Sweet! Bye!" Sasha took off.

"I smell food!" Amaya followed her nose.

"I saw a garden on our way here. I’m going to go there." Kyana felt the presence of spirits and wanted to check it out.

"I wonder if there’s a place where magical knowledge is stored." Nadya went to ask around.

"See ya." Gwen didn’t know what she would be doing, but she wanted to explore.

Kai, on the otherhand, already knew what he wanted to do. He eyed the room Halie was in and walked toward it.

When he entered, seeing Haile sitting down behind a desk, he closed and locked the door behind him while also placing a soundproof barrier around the room.

"Kai, how may I help you?" She smiled

"You married?"

"W-What?" Halie was slightly taken aback by the question, not expecting him to ask that.

"Do you have a lover?"

"No, I don’t. Is there a reason for you to ask this?" Normally, she wouldn’t allow men to speak to her so casually, but he was the servant of the Empress, whom she apparently adored, and was even on good terms with their goddess.
