Chapter 1022: An Embarrassing Misunderstanding
Chapter 1022: An Embarrassing Misunderstanding
"So, what really happened?"
Sylvia sat on the sofa with her legs crossed, her eyes darting back and forth between Orrun and Nolan.
Nolan cleared his throat.
"Ahem! Tower Master, don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not what you think."
Orrun quickly added, "That’s right! We weren’t doing anything inappropriate!"
"Then what was that all about? You gave Sage Orrun a ring, didn’t you?"
Sylvia narrowed her eyes.
Nolan shrugged and leaned back comfortably on the sofa behind him.
"That was a misunderstanding. I just wanted to take the ring because it’s an important artifact. Isn’t that right, old man?"
"Right! That’s exactly what happened! Don’t get the wrong idea!" Orrun said seriously.
"Hmmm..."
Sylvia fell into deep thought. She knew Orrun well. Although he had been single for a thousand years, he was still a normal man.
She had once found an erotic book about beautiful dwarf women hidden inside one of his cabinets.
"I understand."
She let out a long sigh.
"Don’t create a misunderstanding like this again. If someone else sees you like that, it’ll be a disaster. Your reputation will be ruined too, Sage Orrun."
She shot Orrun a sharp glance.
Orrun was arrogant and always refused to bow his head to anyone, but at that moment, he looked embarrassed and could only nod in resignation.
"All right, the misunderstanding has been cleared up. Let’s get back to the main topic."
Sylvia stared intently at Nolan.
"Who are you? And what’s your purpose for coming to the Tower of Silence?"
"Ah, he—"
Before Orrun could answer, Nolan cut him off.
"Tower Master Sylvia, don’t you recognize me?"
Sylvia was surprised.
"What do you mean? Have we ever met?"
Nolan smiled faintly. He crossed his legs, rested his right elbow on his thigh, and propped his chin up with his palm.
"I am the Singularity of Chaos—the one who taught you until you reached your current level."
Sylvia was stunned.
"What... did you say?"
Her heart began to pound.
"Y-You... the Singularity of Chaos?"
Nolan gave a slight nod.
"I have another identity. I am the Sixth Prince of the Great Velmora Empire."
He then explained everything to Sylvia. To be honest, he was a little tired of having to recount everything from the beginning. It was exhausting and a hassle.
But what could he do?
Those damn gods had punished him, and he had no choice but to go through all these troublesome things.
It took fifteen minutes before Nolan finally finished.
"That’s about it."
Nolan took a sip of his now-cold tea and calmly looked at Sylvia.
Sylvia sat frozen in her seat. The composure she had maintained all this time had completely shattered.
Her mouth opened and closed as if she wanted to say something, but she didn’t know what to say.
Nolan didn’t interrupt her. After all, his story did sound far-fetched, especially the part about the gods’ punishment.
A few minutes later, Sylvia finally regained her composure. She took several deep breaths before looking intently at Nolan.
"I understand."
"Oh?" Nolan was slightly surprised. "Don’t you think I’m lying?"
Sylvia chuckled softly.
"I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t considered that possibility. But I’m an elf, and I have an innate ability to detect lies in someone’s words. I didn’t sense anything just now, so you must be telling the truth."
Nolan looked relieved. It would have been a hassle if Sylvia hadn’t believed him. He was too lazy to prove it any further.
"By the way, Singularity of Chaos—no, I mean Prince Nolan."
"Don’t call me by either of those titles. Just call me ’Big Brother.’"
A playful twinkle flashed in Nolan’s eyes.
Sylvia’s face flushed slightly at that. She was a thousand years old, while the man in front of her was probably only in his twenties.
Calling someone younger than her "Big Brother" was clearly embarrassing. But since Nolan had already said it, she didn’t refuse.
"I mean... Big Brother Nolan."
Nolan smiled with satisfaction.
"What actually happened to you in that world? Did you really return to the world of the two heroes of humanity?" Sylvia asked curiously.
"No, I didn’t go back there."
Nolan shook his head.
"It was just a parallel world. The gods wouldn’t let me go there."
"Huh? How is that possible?"
"It sounds impossible, but that’s the reality."
Nolan took another sip of his tea, only to realize that the cup was empty.
"Old man, make me some tea," Nolan ordered, holding out his empty cup.
The corner of Orrun’s mouth twitched.
"Me too," Sylvia chimed in.
Orrun: "..."
He took a deep breath to hold back his anger before standing up irritably.
Nolan and Sylvia ignored him and continued their conversation.
Sylvia was very curious about what had happened to Nolan, so she kept asking him questions.
"All right, that’s enough. I’m here for something more important."
Nolan raised his hand, stopping her.
Sylvia reluctantly held back her curiosity.
"Sylvia, I want you to send some Sage-level mages—and, if possible, one Celestial—to the Izanagi Eastern Empire."
Sylvia was taken aback by the request.
"Has something happened in that empire?"
"No. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say ’not yet.’"
Nolan’s expression grew serious.
Ever since arriving on the Eastern Continent, he had felt an uneasy sensation deep inside.
It was as if the Eastern Continent—specifically the Izanagi Eastern Empire—was on the verge of falling into unprecedented chaos.
Nolan had no idea whether his foreboding would actually come true. But what mattered was that he needed to take preventive measures first, especially after what had happened to Malverna.
The Order of Chaos and its followers would likely make their move soon, and Nolan needed to have his people stationed near those he cared about.
Sylvia set aside her curiosity and nodded.
"I’ll do it. Leave it to me."
Nolan nodded in satisfaction.
"Don’t worry. I won’t ask you to do this for free."
He reached into his pocket and tossed a palm-sized stone toward her.
Sylvia caught it and examined it carefully.
"What kind of stone is this?"
Nolan was too lazy to explain.
"Just think of it as a talisman."
Sylvia blinked a few times before nodding without saying a word.
...
Five days later...
Elina and her army finally arrived at Duke Malvain’s mansion. Thirty thousand soldiers stood in neat formation, their presence terrifying the guards at the gate.
The leader hurried over and bowed his head.
"Welcome, Your Highness Elina," he greeted her.
Elina merely nodded in response.
"Is Duke Malvain inside?" she asked.
"Duke—"
Before the leader could answer, a voice suddenly interrupted him.
"The Duke is inside, Your Highness. Please follow me."
Elina, Evalyn, and Freya immediately turned toward the source of the voice.
A red-haired man with half-closed eyes walked toward them.
"Who are you?"
The man stopped a meter away from Elina and bowed his head.
"My name is Sergan. I am the leader of Duke Malvain’s special military unit. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness."
A faint smile flashed across his face, hinting at both cunning and cruelty, before slowly fading away.
