Chapter 539: Threats Behind the Scenes

Chapter 539: Threats Behind the Scenes

"Oh? Tell me, what do you want?" Nolan asked curiously.

The woman didn’t answer. Under Nolan’s confused gaze, she lowered her head and pressed her lips to his.

Nolan’s eyes widened, and the instinct to push her away surged within him.

But strangely, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. The kiss made his soul feel calm—almost comforted.

They remained like that for several minutes before the woman slowly pulled away.

A thin strand of saliva lingered between their lips, faintly alluring.

"That was my wish. Don’t be mad, okay?" the woman said with a faint smile.

Nolan looked at her helplessly. There was no point in being angry—it had already happened.

Besides, he had promised to grant her wish. Getting angry now would mean breaking his own word.

Even so, it had been his first kiss in this life. Having it taken so suddenly stirred a strange, indescribable feeling within him.

"I’m not angry." Nolan shook his head slowly and was about to stand, but the woman held him back.

"Don’t rush. There’s something I want to tell you."

Her face, usually filled with a smile, now carried a hint of seriousness.

Nolan looked at her in confusion. He said nothing and chose to wait.

"You should know the consequences of being the bearer of the gods’ power, right?" the woman asked.

Nolan’s body tensed for a brief moment before he nodded. "Yes. I know the consequences."

The power she referred to was one that had descended from the heavens hundreds of years ago.

Those who bore it were known as the Seven Singularities.

At first glance, it sounded unbelievable—but it was the truth.

People believed the Seven Singularities were figures who had reached the pinnacle of the power they had learned.

In truth, that belief was nothing more than nonsense created to keep the real history hidden.

The Demon Emperor Zerathos and Malverna were examples of this. They were two talented figures Nolan knew well, yet even at the peak of their power, neither of them had ever reached a level comparable to the Seven Singularities.

And the risk the woman referred to was an enormous responsibility.

The Singularities were required to maintain world peace and prevent destructive wars.

Otherwise, the power they had obtained would be lost forever.

"What’s wrong? Why are you talking about that?" Nolan asked.

The woman fell silent, her hand still carefully combing through his hair.

"For the past few months, I’ve sensed that something terrible is about to happen," she said calmly. "A power that rivals the Seven Singularities is about to appear in this world. Unlike them, these beings will come only to wreak havoc."

Nolan narrowed his eyes.

"A power that rivals the Seven Singularities? Who do you mean? Could it be—"

Before he could finish, a memory from the past suddenly surfaced.

His eyes widened, and his heart began to race.

"I know... I know them!"

He sat up and looked at the woman with a serious expression.

"I met them once," he said cautiously. "They were two men. One possessed power similar to the Singularity of Flame, while the other wielded space power, just like mine."

Even now, Nolan still did not understand their origins. He had secretly mobilized the Blue Moon Trading House and the White Lotus to investigate them, but despite all that effort, he had found no answers.

He also did not know whether the Singularities were already aware of this matter.

If they were, they should have begun making thorough preparations to deal with the threat.

The woman smiled and reached out to stroke his tense face.

At her touch, Nolan felt his body slowly relax.

"From your gaze and concern, I can sense that you’re telling the truth," she said gently. "Be careful from now on. I can feel that this continent will soon lose its peace. When that happens, we can only rely on you, the holders of godly power."

Nolan let out a long sigh and nodded slightly.

"I understand. But I can’t guarantee that the other Singularities, aside from Seria, will heed your wishes. Each of them has their own interests."

For example, the Singularity of Light barely paid attention to the affairs of this continent; his focus was entirely on the Holy Valtanir Empire.

Because of that, many Singularities disapproved of his stance.

Nolan wasn’t even sure they could unite at all, let alone join forces against those mysterious figures.

The woman paused briefly, then nodded reassuringly.

"You don’t need to worry about that. Leave it to Seria and me. Understand?"

Nolan looked into her confident green eyes and decided to trust her.

"Alright. I trust you."

The woman’s smile returned.

"Good..."

Two days passed quickly. Before they realized it, the day of Luna’s return to the imperial capital had arrived.

"Take care of yourself, understand? Don’t trouble the person you consider your big sister. And remember—write a letter once a month and send it using the magic technique I taught you. And..."

Iris continued giving Luna advice.

Luna wasn’t annoyed or bored. She smiled and nodded repeatedly, as if carefully storing every word in her memory.

Watching the scene, Nolan could only smile. For some reason, it reminded him of his own past.

His mother, Isabella, used to do the same thing. And as a stubborn, rebellious child, he often ran off before she even had a chance to finish speaking.

Once Iris finished giving all her instructions, she looked at Nolan with respect and bowed her head.

"Please take my daughter safely, Singularity of Chaos," she said politely.

Nolan waved his right hand. "Don’t worry—I’ll take her safely to her destination, just like when I brought her here."

Relief washed over Iris as she slowly straightened. She reached into her pocket and took out a light green token.

It was made of mysterious glass, sparkling when it caught the light. Iris stepped closer and handed it to him.

"My mother couldn’t accompany you these past few days because of urgent matters. Yesterday, she gave me this to pass on to you."

Nolan was confused, but he didn’t refuse. He accepted the token and examined it for a moment, sensing a powerful life force emanating from it.

’Seria’s power, huh? Could this be some kind of communication tool?’

He considered it briefly, but without a clear answer, he decided to look into it later.

"I understand. Thank you," he said, slipping the token into his pocket.

Iris smiled and nodded slightly.

After exchanging a few more words, Nolan walked over to Luna and vanished with her.
