The Hidden Extra: The Lazy Prince Refuses to Ascend The Throne

Chapter 541: Reuniting with Elina and Rafine

Chapter 541: Reuniting with Elina and Rafine

The eastern region of the empire, Virella Town...

"We’ve finally arrived."

Nolan peered out from the window of the horse-drawn carriage and gazed at the distant town walls with satisfaction.

The walls were not very high, only about eight meters. Judging by the color of the paint, they had clearly been built recently.

Still, Nolan understood. According to the information he had received, Virella Town was extremely poor.

The town’s previous leaders, a baronial family, had died during the battle for the throne in his father’s era.

As a result, the town was neglected and left without proper leadership for decades.

Of course, Duke Austin and the imperial palace had attempted to help the town recover.

However, the cost was enormous, as Virella’s location on the eastern edge of the territory made transporting supplies difficult.

Not to mention, the town bordered an ancient forest known as Calvorn, infamous as a den of ancient monsters.

The horse-drawn carriage finally arrived at the gates of Virella.

Four guards clad in silver armor immediately approached.

They questioned the coachman about the purpose of the visit and requested their entry permit.

Fortunately, the carriage belonged to the palace, so the inspection did not take long.

Once permission was granted, the carriage moved forward into the town.

"Woaa! Master, is this place going to be our new home?" Eira asked excitedly.

The little dragon peeked out from the window beside her.

Nolan smiled and gave a slight nod.

"Yes, this town will be our new home. Are you okay with that? After all, it’s not as lively as the capital," he said.

Eira shook her head. She hopped back into her seat, then moved over to Nolan and rubbed her head against him affectionately.

"It’s okay, Master! As long as I can be with you, I don’t care where I live!" she said with a shy smile.

Nolan chuckled softly and rubbed her chubby face.

He had once thought that taking Eira in and keeping her as a pet would be troublesome.

But he was wrong. Eira was kind, obedient, and adorable—aside from her obsession with chocolate.

Nolan glanced out the window, watching the people of Virella passing by, their expressions filled with excitement.

’This town is far more developed than the reports suggested. It seems Elina and Rafine have done a good job improving it,’ he muttered.

The report he had received included pictures of Virella Town from several years ago.

To be honest, the sight had been terrible—and deeply sad.

The images reminded Nolan of a moment from his previous world. Back then, he had represented the Frey family during a visit to one of the poorest towns in the world.

There, he had seen firsthand how vast the gap between the rich and the poor truly was.

While people in cities lived amid the bustle of towering buildings, the poorest towns showed the complete opposite.

Forget health insurance—even finding food and water was difficult there.

In those old pictures, Virella Town had looked exactly like that place.

But now, the town of Virella before him was completely different—more lively and filled with happiness.

Clearly, it was all thanks to the efforts of his sister and Rafine.

Soon after, the horse-drawn carriage arrived in front of a mansion.

It rolled through the gates and stopped right before the entrance. Nolan stepped down, holding Eira in his arms.

Whoosh!

A strong gust of wind swept past, sending his hair fluttering in all directions.

"The wind is really strong," Nolan said with a faint smile.

He looked at the mansion before him. This was where Elina and Rafine lived.

He had sent a letter announcing his arrival, so they should have come out to welcome him.

At that moment, two figures emerged from inside. They were two young women—Elina and Rafine.

When Elina saw Nolan, her face instantly lit up.

"Brother Nolan!"

She ran toward him with her arms wide open. Nolan set Eira down before opening his own arms and catching her in an embrace.

"You’re finally back, Brother. Do you know how much I missed you?" Elina said softly, her voice tinged with complaint.

Her usual cold, stern demeanor melted away, replaced by a shy, spoiled expression, like a little cat reunited with its owner.

Nolan gently rubbed her back.

"I know. That’s why I came here right away. And your work is truly impressive. This town was almost dead, yet it’s finally come back to life," he replied, a hint of praise in his voice.

Elina’s frown vanished, replaced by a proud smile.

She loosened her embrace and looked at her brother playfully.

"I am amazing. So it’s only right that you give me a reward, isn’t it?"

"A reward?" Nolan looked surprised, but he quickly regained his composure and smiled slightly.

"Of course there is. Do you think your brother would forget?"

He released her, walked back to the horse-drawn carriage, and took out two fairly large boxes of chocolate.

He handed one to Elina, then turned to Rafine, who had been silent the entire time.

"This one’s for you."

"Eh? Me too?" Rafine pointed at herself in disbelief.

"Do you think I’m that mean?" Nolan rolled his eyes as he shook the box. "If you don’t take it, I’ll—"

Before he could finish, Rafine rushed over, snatched the chocolate, and hugged it tightly.

"Who said I didn’t want it? Hmph! Since you already gave it to me, there’s no way I can refuse," she grumbled.

Nolan simply smiled and shook his head.

Just then, a sad voice came from his right.

"Master, you’re so mean! Why didn’t you tell me you bought two big boxes of chocolate like that?"

Elina and Rafine instinctively turned toward the little dragon. Both of them froze, then exchanged confused looks.

"Brother, is she the dragon you mentioned in your letter? Her name is Eira, right?"

Nolan lifted Eira into his arms and gave a small nod.

"Yes, she’s Eira, my little dragon."

At the words "my little dragon," Eira’s sulky expression vanished, replaced by a bright smile.

Seeing this, Elina couldn’t help but laugh.

She opened her arms and said, "Brother, may I hold her?"

Nolan nodded and handed the little dragon to her. At first, Eira looked uncomfortable and even tried to wriggle free.

However, as she felt Elina’s warmth, her body gradually relaxed.

Elina gently stroked the little dragon and asked, "Do you want some chocolate?"

At those words, Eira’s eyes lit up.

"I do!"

"Then come inside with me and eat together, okay?"

"Okay!" Eira raised her left hand enthusiastically.

Ignoring Nolan and Rafine, the two of them walked into the mansion.

Soon, only Nolan and Rafine were left behind, and the atmosphere between them turned a little awkward.

"So," Nolan broke the silence, looking at her with a playful smile, "don’t you miss me?"
