Chapter 649: The Last Piece
Chapter 649: The Last Piece
"Huh... I’m really tired and thirsty," Elina muttered, letting out a long sigh.
She stood and walked over to the table. Pouring a glass of cold water, she took a sip while gazing at the beautiful night sky stretching beyond the window.
Her thoughts wandered. She suddenly remembered her brother. A few days ago, her mother had informed her that he had gone to the Ancient Kingdom of Eron.
His goal was to help Seira break off her engagement with the First Prince, Aldrian Lyren.
Elina couldn’t help but feel a little surprised. Her brother had promised to return within a month, but given the journey to the Ancient Kingdom of Eron, it would certainly take him some time.
"What a stubborn man," she sighed.
Still, deep down, she felt a little pleased. Her brother clearly had potential, but he often acted indifferent and useless.
As a result, their other siblings labeled him worthless. By stepping in to help Seira, he had shown that he truly had value.
Once her thirst was quenched, Elina returned to her desk and resumed her work.
Due to issues at the western border, her father had requested her presence in the coming days. She needed to finish all her work within the next month so she could have some peace afterward.
Suddenly, a letter appeared out of thin air. Elina jumped and picked it up.
"A letter?" she whispered in surprise.
She looked left and right, trying to find the sender. But there was no one there—only her.
Elina paused for a moment before opening the letter and reading its contents.
Minutes later, she froze. Her eyes widened, and her breathing grew rapid.
"Brother Nolan is in... danger!?"
...
Three days later...
"It’s so annoying. That guy is like a dog’s band-aid," Seira muttered irritably.
Nolan, standing in front of her, chuckled softly. "That just proves he still loves you. Why not accept his feelings?"
Seira’s eyes narrowed. She pinched his waist and scolded, "What do you mean by that, huh? Do you want to throw your sister into another man’s arms? I guess I’ve been too nice to you, Nolan."
Feeling the pinch, Nolan winced and quickly stepped back.
"I was just joking—don’t take it seriously, okay?" he said, laughing awkwardly and raising both hands in surrender.
"Huh! Next time you talk nonsense, I’ll sew your lips shut," she threatened, glaring.
Nolan swallowed hard. He knew it was just an empty threat, yet the thought of having his lips sewn shut still made him uneasy.
"By the way, when are we going back? It’s been five days since you promised," Seira added, clearly annoyed.
Every day, Aldrian showed up in front of her, doing obnoxious things—asking her out on dates, inviting her to dinner, and more.
The man had a thick skin, completely forgetting what he had done to her that night.
Although Seira claimed she didn’t mind his actions—because she would have acted the same way in his position—Aldrian’s behavior was still basically a declaration that their engagement was over.
Nolan approached and helped his sister sit on the sofa.
Then he moved behind her and began massaging her shoulders gently.
"Don’t worry, we’ll be back tonight. But sis, can I ask for your help?"
Seira looked a little surprised but didn’t refuse.
"What do you need me to do?"
Leaning closer, Nolan whispered in her ear, "Sis, tonight Aldrian will invite you to dinner. When that happens... accept his invitation."
Seira furrowed her brow. "How is that possible? Didn’t I already say I don’t want to interact with him anymore? Wait..."
She turned to him, her eyes filled with anger and disbelief. "Don’t tell me you’re okay with me being with him. Weren’t you supposed to help me break off the engagement?"
Tears welled in the corners of her eyes. If it had been her mother or someone else pressuring her, she might not have cared.
But Nolan—her spiritual pillar—was supporting this engagement. That realization left Seira feeling utterly devastated.
Seeing her tears, Nolan was startled. He quickly wiped them away and pulled her into a comforting embrace.
"Don’t misunderstand. I didn’t mean it like that. I just needed your help at the time. I can’t tell you the reason yet. Please... don’t cry, okay?"
He gently stroked her back, his touch tender and reassuring.
Seira stopped crying, but her frustration was still obvious.
Resting her face against Nolan’s broad chest, she spoke in a hoarse voice, "All right, I’ll do as you say. But this isn’t free. You already owe me a promise, and now there’s another one. That makes two promises you have to keep. Understand?"
Nolan smiled softly, rubbing the back of her head.
"Of course. I’m not the kind of coward who’d forget something like that."
A playful glint flickered in his purple eyes.
’The chessboard is set. Aldrian... tonight will be your end... hehehe...’
...
"Hahaha! I didn’t expect Seira to agree!"
In his room, Aldrian couldn’t hold back his laughter. He opened the closet and pulled out several beautiful robes.
"Didn’t I tell you she’d fall for you too?" a voice called arrogantly.
Aldrian rolled his eyes. The voice had only given a few pointers, yet he couldn’t deny it had actually helped him.
"By the way, which outfit looks best on me? Can you help me decide?"
"I’m not a living being. How could I help you?" the voice replied coldly. "Figure it out yourself."
Annoyed, Aldrian turned back to his search for the perfect outfit.
Just then, footsteps echoed outside, and Melody entered, her expression curious.
"Aldrian, I heard you’re planning to go to the city tonight. Is that true?"
Aldrian glanced at his mother, then approached her with a bright, beaming smile.
"That’s right, Mother. Seira accepted my invitation to dinner. I never imagined this would happen," he said, his voice full of excitement.
Melody blinked in surprise for a moment before smiling softly and ruffling his hair.
"Well done. I thought you might fail to win her heart, but it seems you didn’t. That’s a relief," she said, clearly pleased.
Gulvar, meanwhile, was in a tight spot. Though the noble families had outwardly accepted the situation, their resentment was only hidden.
It was only a matter of time before it erupted, throwing the capital—and perhaps the entire kingdom—into chaos.
Seira’s presence, therefore, was essential. Binding her to the royal family would ensure future support from the Holy Empire of Valtanir.
"Hehehe... In the end, Seira is still a woman—easily swayed by flattery and persuasion," Aldrian said proudly.
Melody smiled, nodding in agreement.
"By the way, were you picking out clothes earlier? Do you want me to help?"
Aldrian’s eyes lit up. Lacking any real sense of style, his mother’s offer was perfectly timed.
"Of course!"
