Chapter 668: Rumors Spread as Fast as the Wind

"Have you heard the news?"

"What news?"

"They say the royal palace is conducting a massive search for Prince Nolan and Princess Seira of the Great Velmora Empire!"

"What!? How is that possible? Aren’t they afraid it’ll spark a war?"

"I don’t know either. But according to my brother, who works at the palace, those two have done something truly terrible... something unforgivable."

The rumor spread quickly throughout the capital of Altheris. Even those just starting their mornings soon learned about the search for Nolan and Seira, and a huge commotion erupted across the capital.

Many speculated about the reason behind the search. Unfortunately, no one truly understood the palace’s intentions.

In the end, it remained a mystery, leaving everyone uneasy and full of questions.

...

Three hundred kilometers from the capital of Altheris stood a beautiful and advanced city known as Miravelda.

It was surrounded by a thirty-meter-high fortress wall, and its sheer size was impressive, spanning nearly sixty square kilometers.

Over six hundred thousand people lived within its borders, and its economy was growing at a rapid pace.

Merchants from all corners of the country came to sell their goods, while farmers from nearby regions brought their harvests to make a living.

"Wow... This city is so beautiful," Seira murmured in awe.

Even though the cities of the Great Velmora Empire were no less magnificent, she couldn’t help but be amazed by the sight of Miravelda stretching out before her.

Moreover, since the city was located on the southern continent, its weather, customs, and the habits of its people were vastly different from those of the Great Velmora Empire.

Nolan gently lowered his hood and gazed at the city with the same sense of wonder.

"You’re right. This city is truly beautiful," he whispered.

He then took Seira’s hand with his left, while his right hand guided the horse forward.

The two of them had traveled all night without a single moment of rest.

The horse looked utterly exhausted, clearly in desperate need of sleep.

Nolan himself wasn’t tired at all, but his sister was. Although she tried to appear calm, her face betrayed a weariness she couldn’t hide.

After that, Nolan led Seira and the horse to an unassuming inn.

He tied the horse to a post and patted its head.

"Be good. Get plenty of rest. We’ll continue our journey tonight, understand?"

The horse nuzzled him and rubbed against him affectionately.

Nolan then brought Seira inside and booked two rooms.

After receiving the keys, he turned to his sister and said, "Go to sleep, Sister. Don’t worry, this place is safe. Rest as much as you need."

Seira frowned and asked hesitantly, "Aren’t you going to sleep too?"

Nolan patted her shoulder and reassured her. "There are a few things I need to check first. You go ahead and sleep."

Seira stayed silent for a moment, then let out a long sigh and nodded weakly.

"I understand. Be careful, and come back safely, okay?"

"Okay."

Without another word, Seira opened her door, stepped inside, and closed it behind her.

Nolan didn’t leave right away. He snapped his fingers, and a barrier instantly formed in front of Seira’s room.

But the next second, the barrier vanished as if it had never existed.

Nolan slipped his left hand into his pocket, then walked down from the second floor and left the inn.

A cool breeze brushed against his face. He glanced left and right, then decided to find breakfast first.

After all, he hadn’t eaten since last night. He had been too focused on carrying out his plan flawlessly.

His eyes soon landed on a breakfast stall not far away.

The stall owner was selling cookies and soy milk. Nolan bought two cookies and a glass of soy milk, then sat by the roadside and ate quietly.

People passed by without paying him any attention, unaware that the man sitting there was the prince of the Great Velmora Empire.

But that was only natural. Nolan had changed his appearance.

His hair was now white, and his eyes were red. If one looked closely, his face even resembled his younger sister, Elina.

And since they were twins, Nolan practically looked like Elina in male form.

"Have you heard the royal palace is offering a bounty?"

"Oh, I’ve heard! If I’m not mistaken, it’s to find Prince Nolan Lorian and Princess Seira, right? They say those two broke the law and will be severely punished. This is getting interesting. Want to join?"

"Of course! The reward is ten million Rune coins! If I get my hands on that, I’ll be rich overnight!"

"Hahaha! You’re dreaming big, but I agree. Let’s search around the city. Who knows? Maybe they’re hiding here."

The conversation between the two men as they passed by caught Nolan’s attention.

’A bounty, huh? Just as I thought,’ he chuckled, finishing his soy milk.

He stuffed the used cookie wrapper into the paper cup and tossed it into the trash.

Just then, a crow swooped down from the sky and landed on his right shoulder.

COAK!

The crow cawed and lifted its right leg. A small scroll was tied to it.

Nolan untied the scroll and read its contents. His face remained calm, as if nothing in it could stir his emotions.

’Twenty thousand troops have been deployed from the capital, huh? Gulvar really is impatient,’ he muttered with a faint smile.

Still, this was something he had expected. He suspected Gulvar didn’t truly believe he was the culprit.

Unfortunately, time didn’t give him the luxury of investigating further.

He needed a scapegoat—someone to take the blame for Aldrian’s death.

In truth, Gulvar wasn’t wrong. Nolan really was the one who killed him.

"Now that Gulvar has taken action, all that’s left is to wait for everything to go according to plan. Karakh, you better not disappoint me. Otherwise..."

A cold glint flashed in his red eyes.

"You’ll lose this opportunity forever."

...

Bang!

Gulvar slammed his fist onto the table, his face flushed with rage. His breathing was ragged, and his body trembled.

"Still no trace of them? How is that possible!? You two are completely useless!"

Alex and Eldrin could only lower their heads in silence.

Gulvar took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

"Find a way to track them down as soon as possible!"

Neither of them dared to argue. They bowed slightly and quickly left the room, leaving Gulvar behind, still seething with fury.

Gulvar rubbed his temples and muttered, "This is a complete mess..."
