Chapter 687: Sylvia’s Unexpected Appearance
Chapter 687: Sylvia’s Unexpected Appearance
"For Elina?" Malverna’s eyebrows rose slightly. "What do you mean?"
Nolan smiled faintly. He scooped up a handful of sand with his right hand, lifted it, let it fall through his fingers, then blew gently.
The grains scattered into the air, forming a brief, shimmering arc.
"Imagine it like this," he said. "Elina led thousands of troops to rescue me. By law, that’s a violation. My father will definitely punish her later. But that’s not the point. What Elina did was a rescue operation for me and Seira. In the eyes of the people and the noble families, it becomes a heroic act worth praising. Do you understand so far?"
Malverna froze. Her eyes widened as she looked at Nolan beside her, who was still smiling.
"Don’t tell me you planned all of this before leaving for the Ancient Kingdom of Eron?"
Nolan remained silent, which was enough of an answer.
Malverna’s heart pounded, her breathing turning heavier.
"You..."
She started to speak, but no words came out.
This man had surprised and astonished her time and time again. But now, his actions could only be described as... insane.
He wasn’t just pulling strings behind the scenes—he was anticipating every outcome with frightening precision.
Even Malverna wouldn’t dare attempt something like that. The risk alone was too great.
"Alright, don’t be so shocked," Nolan said casually as he stood up and brushed the sand off his clothes. "You can treat everything I’ve done as a lesson. I’m sure you’ll surpass me someday."
Malverna rolled her eyes. Surpass him?
She didn’t have that kind of confidence. Only a madman like Nolan would take risks like that so casually.
Still, there was truth in his words. She could learn from him and broaden her perspective.
"Looks like it’s finally here—the Royal Palace’s support," Nolan’s voice snapped Malverna out of her thoughts.
She looked ahead and saw a portal opening two hundred meters away.
The portal expanded, and from within stepped a tall woman wearing a white veil.
Shortly after, a burly man and several soldiers followed behind her.
Nolan quickly recognized the woman and the man—Sylvia, the master of the Tower of Silence and Jisha’s mentor, and Alex, one of Gulvar’s two subordinates.
"A Beyond the World Mage?" Malverna’s eyes narrowed as she slowly stood up, staring intently at Sylvia. "I didn’t expect to see one after so long."
Those who had reached that level were extremely rare—they could almost be counted on one hand.
"She’s Sylvia, the leader of the Tower of Silence. If I’m not mistaken, you saw her when I went to the Kingdom of Kaldarion, didn’t you?" Nolan glanced at her.
Malverna shook her head. "No, I didn’t. You might be misremembering."
Nolan fell silent and said nothing more.
Malverna put on her half-mask and walked with Nolan toward Elina.
"Brother," Elina called out with a worried expression.
Nolan smiled and patted her head.
"I’ll come with you."
If it had only been Alex or another envoy from the royal palace, he would have left the matter entirely to Elina.
But Sylvia’s involvement changed everything. He had no choice but to step in as well.
"I’m coming too!" Seira’s voice rang out from behind him.
Nolan turned to look at her and didn’t refuse.
"Alright."
And so, the three of them—along with Malverna and several soldiers—walked toward the approaching group.
Seeing Nolan and Seira’s faces, Alex gritted his teeth in anger.
"Nolan Lorian... Seira Lorian..." he growled. "How dare you kill the crown prince!? And now you’ve taken our troops hostage! You’ve declared war on the Ancient Kingdom of Eron!"
Seira raised an eyebrow. Before she could respond, Nolan cut in first.
"No need for all the drama. I’m sure you’ve already figured out why I killed Aldrian Lyren. Don’t just paint me as the criminal while treating your so-called prince as innocent. That’s truly disgusting," Nolan sneered, his brow tightening.
His words struck Alex like a blade to the chest.
"You..." Alex reached for his sword, but Sylvia stopped him.
"Don’t act rashly. I only came to escort you in bringing Nolan Lorian and Seira Lorian to the royal palace. If you start a fight, I won’t intervene," she said coldly.
Alex faltered and swallowed his anger.
Sylvia shifted her gaze from Alex and looked calmly at Nolan.
"We meet again, Nolan Lorian," she greeted.
"Hmm..." Nolan nodded casually, folding his arms across his chest. "So, what brings the Master of the Tower here in person? Don’t tell me the Tower of Silence has formed an alliance with the Ancient Kingdom of Eron?"
Sylvia shook her head. "Our relationship isn’t that close. I simply owe the Ancient Kingdom of Eron a debt of gratitude from the past. I’ve come to repay it."
"Repay it?" Nolan raised an eyebrow. "You mean by taking me and my older sister back to the royal palace?"
"More or less. I’m glad you understood quickly." Sylvia gave a faint smile and nodded. "So, can you come with me back to the Ancient Kingdom of Eron?"
Nolan chuckled softly. "And if I refuse?"
"Then I’ll have to use force." Sylvia shrugged.
The next moment, an immense pressure erupted from her body, crashing down on Nolan, Elina, Seira, and the others.
All of them except Nolan were instantly forced down onto the sand.
"Ugh..." They gritted their teeth and tried to resist, but it was useless.
It felt like ants facing a giant hundreds of meters tall—there was no room for resistance.
But suddenly, Malverna raised her left hand, and the pressure vanished instantly.
Elina, Seira, and the others immediately regained their footing and let out relieved breaths.
"Who are you?" Sylvia immediately went on guard, her gaze sharpening at Malverna.
Someone capable of shattering her pressure was clearly on the same level as her.
That meant one thing—the woman was also Beyond the World.
Strangely, Sylvia hadn’t sensed it at all. There was no trace of such overwhelming power.
"Want to know my identity?" Malverna wore a look of disgust. "Someone who’s only just broken through to Beyond the World isn’t qualified to know it."
Her words shattered Sylvia’s pride.
"You..." Sylvia gritted her teeth and was about to act when Nolan’s voice sounded in front of her.
"Alright, don’t be so hostile, Tower Master. We’re acquaintances, aren’t we? Isn’t it a bit too harsh to treat me and my sisters like this?"
Though he was smiling, a dangerous pressure radiated from him.
Sylvia felt her body freeze in place, unable to move at all.
She couldn’t even part her lips.
’What’s happening? Why do I feel... fear?’ she wondered inwardly.
With just a smile, Nolan had made her feel fear. It made no sense.
"My sister and I won’t be returning to the Ancient Kingdom of Eron," Nolan said casually, snapping her out of her daze. "And if you still insist on forcing it, I wouldn’t mind if the Singularity of Chaos took direct action against you, Tower Master—and you as well, Alex."
The moment the name Singularity of Chaos was mentioned, the expressions of Sylvia, Alex, and the soldiers behind them changed instantly.
"Oh, right!" Nolan clapped his hands once. "I almost forgot—you might not be aware."
He placed a hand on Elina’s left shoulder. "This is my sister, Elina Lorian. She currently receives indirect support from the Singularity of Chaos in the battle for the throne."
Then he shifted his hand to Malverna’s right shoulder. "And this one is a direct subordinate of the Singularity of Chaos, assigned to observe Elina from the shadows."
Malverna: "..."
