Chapter 706: Eira’s Promise
Chapter 706: Eira’s Promise
"Master, please feed me!"
"Master, please pat my head!"
Sitting on Nolan’s lap, Eira kept calling out to him in a spoiled tone.
Nolan smiled. He picked up a round piece of chocolate and fed it to her.
Eira accepted it and ate it with delight.
"It’s so sweet and delicious! If I could eat this every day, that would be wonderful!" she said, swaying from side to side.
"Not every day. It’s bad for your teeth, you know?" Nolan said with a resigned smile.
But a moment later, he remembered that Eira was a dragon, not a human child.
Could dragons even get toothaches?
After thinking for a while, Nolan decided it was unlikely. Dragons had incredibly strong teeth. They could even crush a thick iron bar with a single bite.
So eating chocolate probably wouldn’t harm her at all.
"Master, I have a request!"
Eira suddenly turned to face him. She stood up on Nolan’s thighs, looking at him with a serious yet shy expression.
"What is it?" Nolan asked curiously.
Eira’s chubby face flushed slightly as she whispered, "I once read a book a long time ago. It said a woman can marry the man she loves. Is that true?"
Nolan nodded casually. "Yes, that’s true. Why are you suddenly asking?"
Eira pressed her index fingers together, then said firmly, "I... I want to marry Master too when I grow up!"
Nolan: "..."
He hadn’t expected the girl to have such thoughts. However, the next moment, he quickly regained his composure.
In his previous life, Nolan had once read an article that said young girls often felt closer to their fathers than their mothers.
So it wasn’t strange to hear a girl say something like, "When I grow up, I want to marry Daddy!"
It was simply a spontaneous remark from a child who had been overly pampered.
After all, a child’s mind was not fully developed yet, and Eira was no different.
With a faint smile, Nolan patted her head and replied, "Alright. If you still feel that way about me in the future, I’ll marry you."
Eira’s shy expression instantly brightened.
"Really!?" she asked, her eyes sparkling.
"Of course. Do you think I’d lie?"
"Wow!" Eira squealed with joy and hugged Nolan’s neck. "Then Master has to promise to wait for me until I grow up. Okay?"
Nolan simply nodded as he patted her small back.
He was certain that in the future, the girl would forget about it. After all, her confession was just a childish remark, the kind children often made without thinking too deeply.
What Nolan didn’t know was that dragons were different from humans. From a young age, their memories were permanently imprinted on their souls and bodies.
That was why they were known as vengeful, yet fiercely loving creatures.
Unfortunately, Nolan wasn’t aware of any of that, and his ignorance would cause him trouble in the future.
While the two of them were still chatting and joking around, Rafine suddenly arrived, carrying a cup of coffee, a cup of tea, and a glass of cold chocolate milk.
Beside the teacup was a plate of snacks, including cookies.
"Have some. It’ll help you relax," Rafine said as she placed the tray on the table.
She arranged the cups, the glass, and the snacks neatly, then set the tray aside.
"Thank you," Nolan said softly. "Why didn’t you ask a servant to bring these? Isn’t this a hassle for you?"
Nolan picked up the glass of cold chocolate milk and handed it to Eira.
"It’s fine. Doing it myself feels more reassuring. Besides, there’s no guarantee there aren’t spies among the servants. Who knows? Someone might slip poison into your drink. So it’s better if I prepare it myself," Rafine replied, trying to hide her embarrassment.
That reason sounded a bit far-fetched. Although the possibility existed, the odds were slim.
In any case, Nolan didn’t play a significant role in the battle for the throne. There would be no point in killing him.
The real reason Rafine prepared the drinks was simply because she wanted to get closer to him and talk. She didn’t know how else to appear before Nolan without a believable excuse.
"So that’s it..." Nolan nodded without much comment. "Thanks again."
The corners of Rafine’s mouth lifted slightly. Soon, the two of them began chatting casually, occasionally exchanging lighthearted jokes.
The atmosphere felt warm and relaxed. But then Rafine suddenly remembered something. She looked at Nolan with a mischievous smile.
"You haven’t forgotten your promise, have you?"
"Promise?" Nolan’s eyebrows lifted slightly. "What promise?"
Rafine rolled her eyes. "Before you left for the capital with Princess Seira, you said you wanted to take me somewhere. But now that you’re back, you still haven’t kept your word. So when are you going to do it?"
She crossed her legs, her eyes carrying a hint of resentment, as if she were trying to hold back her frustration.
"Ah! I forgot!" Nolan slapped his forehead. "Sorry, I really did forget. I had so much on my mind that it completely slipped away."
That was a lie. He had simply been too comfortable lazing around and ended up neglecting his promise. But he couldn’t possibly tell her that.
If he did, Rafine would definitely get angry and sulk.
"Hmph!" Rafine snorted. "I’ll forgive you, but only this once."
Nolan scratched his head awkwardly.
"Ahem. In that case, tomorrow we’ll go to the place I promised. What do you think?"
Rafine’s pout vanished, replaced by a smile as bright as a blooming flower.
"Okay!"

The next day, Nolan and Rafine left the town of Virella.
"Where are we going?" Rafine asked curiously.
Nolan gave a small smile. Instead of answering, he asked, "If I told you I could use magic, would you believe me?"
"Huh?" Rafine was taken aback. She stared at him in confusion. "What do you mean? Magic? You?"
"Yeah." Nolan nodded. "Do you believe I can use magic?"
Rafine fell silent. She didn’t understand why Nolan was asking such a question.
But she knew he wouldn’t bring it up without a reason.
After thinking for a few seconds, she lifted her head and nodded.
"I believe you."
"Oh? And why is that?"
"It’s because you’re weird."
Nolan: "..."
"Pfft!" Rafine giggled. "I’m just kidding. Don’t take it to heart."
She smiled and continued, "Do you remember our first meeting at the emperor’s birthday banquet? Back then, you sent me a telepathic message. At first, I thought I’d imagined it, but after thinking it over, that was impossible. I heard it clearly. So I concluded that you’ve been hiding your powers."
Hearing that, Nolan couldn’t help but feel impressed.
’Just as expected of the heir to the Austin family. Her observations are sharp,’ he thought.
"Yes, you’re right. I can use magic," Nolan admitted. "But I hope you can keep it secret from everyone, including Elina."
Rafine raised an eyebrow. "Why are you suddenly telling me this?"
Nolan smiled faintly. "Because the place I want to take you is very far. If we go by carriage, it’ll take too long."
As he spoke, he wrapped an arm around her waist. Rafine stiffened, startled by the sudden contact.
Before she could react, Nolan snapped his fingers.
In an instant, both of them vanished from sight.
