Chapter 712: Starting the Training (1)
Evalyn lay limp on the ground, her gaze blank and filled with disbelief.
"I... lost?" she muttered, confused and bewildered.
Nolan, whom she had always considered weak, had soundly defeated her.
What’s more, the defeat had come in a field she had mastered since childhood—swordplay.
It felt like a dream, something impossible. Yet the reality was right before her eyes—Nolan had truly defeated her.
Nolan extended his left hand, and Evalyn took it.
Once she was back on her feet, she glared at Nolan.
"How could you have such skill and reflexes? Have you been hiding your strength all this time?"
Nolan smiled and replied casually, "You’re overestimating me. I’m just a lazy, useless prince. I was just lucky to beat you."
"No! You’re lying!" Evalyn gripped his shoulders, her eyes sharp with anger. "Tell me—have you been hiding your strength?"
Evalyn admitted she wasn’t in the right state of mind today. She had been unable to make any progress, which had left her frustrated.
However, that didn’t mean Nolan should have been able to defeat her so easily. Unless... he had been hiding his abilities and deceiving everyone in the Empire.
Nolan fell silent for a moment, then took a deep breath.
"Alright, I’ll be honest." He put on a helpless expression. However, his face quickly turned serious as he leaned closer to her ear.
The sweet scent of Evalyn’s sweat made Nolan feel slightly intoxicated.
But he quickly suppressed the turmoil within him and whispered, "Actually..."
Evalyn waited nervously, her anticipation rising.
"I am the Singularity of Chaos."
Evalyn: "..."
The anticipation and joy on her face vanished instantly, replaced by irritation and anger.
She pulled away from him and punched him in the stomach.
"Ouch!" Nolan groaned in pain, his body curling up as he rubbed his stomach.
"Stop your bullshit, you jerk! The Singularity of Chaos? I’d rather believe you’re a hero disguised as an ordinary prince!" Evalyn sneered, sticking her tongue out in mockery.
Nolan shook his head helplessly. He was telling the truth, but since she didn’t believe him, he had no choice but to stay silent.
"I’m serious, Nolan! How are you so skilled with a sword? Tell me the truth!"
Evalyn reached out with her right hand and grabbed his arm, as if she wouldn’t let go until he gave her an answer.
She had always been physically stronger and more skilled in combat than Nolan. It was something she took pride in and had often used to bully him in the past.
Seeing the weak man she had always looked down on suddenly become so much stronger clearly made her uncomfortable and difficult to accept.
Nolan knew she was incredibly stubborn. No matter how he explained it, Evalyn would surely deny it and search for a more believable answer.
"I’ve actually been hiding my strength," Nolan said, pretending to be mysterious. "I trained at night while everyone in the imperial family was asleep. I’ve been doing it for over a decade, so it’s no wonder I’m physically stronger and have better reflexes than you."
Evalyn’s grip on his arm loosened. She furrowed her brow and asked hesitantly, "Is that all?"
"Yes, that’s all," Nolan confirmed.
Evalyn was silent for quite a while before finally releasing her grip.
"I understand," she whispered, slowly smiling again. "It all makes sense now. My mind was all over the place, and I didn’t expect you to have been hiding your strength. So those are the two reasons I lost. Yeah, that makes sense."
She nodded, folding her arms across her chest.
Nolan rolled his eyes. He had already guessed that she was just looking for an excuse for her loss.
But he didn’t dwell on it. After all, he was used to her competitive nature.
"Forget about it. The important thing is that your skills have indeed stagnated—no, perhaps even declined," Nolan remarked indifferently.
If it were the old Evalyn, she certainly wouldn’t have taken that comment lying down.
Back then, Nolan was nothing more than a weak man who didn’t know how to fight. What right did he have to make such a claim?
But now, she couldn’t say that. Regardless of the reason for her defeat, Nolan was indeed far superior to her in reflexes and combat ability.
"Do you have a way?" Evalyn asked softly, sounding slightly embarrassed.
It felt almost impossible that this day would come—when she would actually ask Nolan for advice on improving her skills.
"I do." Nolan nodded, then explained, "But time is very short. There are only five days left before the contest begins. So I hope you can prepare for the training. Understand?"
A faint smile appeared on his face. It looked charming, yet for some reason, it gave off a slightly eerie vibe.
Evalyn got goosebumps. She didn’t know why, but her instincts told her the training would be extremely tough.
"I understand." She gritted her teeth and replied firmly, "Please help me, Nolan!"
Nolan smiled contentedly. "Sure. In that case, let’s start the training right now."
Evalyn took a step back and asked, "What should I do?"
Nolan didn’t answer. Instead, he moved closer, closing the distance between them to less than a meter.
Evalyn tensed. Nolan’s breath felt so close it made her heart race.
Memories of that kiss resurfaced, and her breathing grew heavier.
Suddenly, Nolan pressed his index and middle fingers together, then thrust them into the center of her chest.
Evalyn’s embarrassment peaked. Her face flushed as her right hand clenched into a fist, ready to strike Nolan.
But the next moment, something shocking happened.
"W-What’s happening to my body?" she cried out in horror.
Her body weakened instantly, as if all her strength had been drained away.
"I sealed the point where your power converges. Now you’re far weaker than an ordinary person," Nolan replied.
He pushed Evalyn, and she immediately fell backward.
"See? You’re very weak now," Nolan chuckled.
Evalyn felt both horrified and amazed. She didn’t understand how Nolan possessed such an ability.
But one thing was certain—his ability was terrifying.
Nolan extended his hand, and Evalyn took it.
"Your body is already strong, and your foundation is solid. So we’ll strengthen it further. Now, you’re going to run a hundred laps around this yard. Can you do it?"
Evalyn gave a faint smirk and nodded.
"Of course I can!"
She was used to running around this yard a thousand times every day.
A hundred laps was nothing to her.
Nolan simply smiled and waved his left hand.
"Go ahead."
He wanted to see if she could still act so arrogant after this.
Evalyn turned around and started running. By the first lap, her body already began to feel tired, and sweat appeared on her forehead.
But she didn’t care and kept running. By the fifth lap, she was sweating even more, and her face looked pale.
Nolan watched it all calmly and whispered, "How many laps can she manage? Ten or twenty?"
