Chapter 768: Buying All the Slaves

Chapter 768: Buying All the Slaves

"Damn it! I really regret this! If only I hadn’t invited him to my booth, none of this chaos would have happened! Argh!"

The bald demon scratched his head in frustration. He already knew it was too late.

The door that had been sealing away that cursed girl had been opened. It was only a matter of time before the misfortune she brought would come back to haunt him.

He desperately wanted to slap his past self from ten minutes ago for doing something so stupid.

As he drowned in anger and regret, the sound of footsteps came from ahead.

He looked up and saw Nolan walking toward him while carrying a little girl in his arms.

Seeing that girl, the demon felt as if his heart were being gripped by an invisible hand.

However, his fear of Nolan was far greater than his fear of the curse the girl carried, so he mustered the courage to step forward.

"S-Sir, do you want to buy that cursed girl—I mean, that little girl? If so, you don’t have to pay for her. You can just take her," he said, forcing a sincere smile.

Nolan rolled his eyes. How could he not see through this bald demon’s intentions?

But he was too lazy to argue. He took a pouch filled with black gold coins and tossed it to the demon.

"Take it. That’s payment for her," he said indifferently.

The bald demon caught the pouch and opened it. His expression froze instantly.

"A hundred black gold coins!" he exclaimed in horror.

That amount was enough to buy every slave in his place.

Joy surged within him. However, he quickly remembered Nolan’s power and hurriedly suppressed his emotions before looking up at the man.

"S-Sir, are you sure? Is all of this just for this girl?" he asked for confirmation.

Nolan nodded. "Yes. By the way..."

He looked at all the disabled slaves around him before asking, "Where did you get them? Why are they all disabled?"

The question piqued his curiosity. By all logic, slaves being sold should be in excellent condition. But that wasn’t the case.

Most of them were disabled. More importantly, they were still alive.

That meant one thing—the bald demon in front of him still had a decent heart.

The demon’s expression turned serious. He stepped closer and explained in a soft tone, "Sir, do you know the history of the Demon Emperor?"

Nolan raised an eyebrow, not really getting why the demon was suddenly bringing this up. Still, he answered casually, "Sure."

The demon hesitated, then gave an awkward smile. "Well... these disabled demons used to serve the Demon Empress before she was overthrown by the Demon Emperor."

Nolan’s eyes widened. "You’re serious?"

"I swear everything I said is true!" the demon said quickly. "B-But don’t tell anyone, alright? If the Demon Emperor finds out, I’ll be executed."

His face turned pale as he imagined the cruel torture awaiting him if this matter were exposed.

Nolan narrowed his eyes, gazing deeply at the demons who had lost their will to live.

The previous Demon Empress was Malverna, which meant they were all her direct subordinates.

When he thought of that woman, Nolan felt a twinge of pity. After all, Malverna was his personal servant.

It was impossible for a master to let his servant grieve because her subordinates had been crippled and died in vain, was it not?

"I understand," Nolan said. He reached into his pocket, then pulled out another pouch and tossed it to the demon. "Inside are a thousand black gold coins. I’ll buy them all."

Upon hearing that, the bald demon’s eyes widened in shock.

"S-Sir, are you sure!? This is far too much!" he shouted.

A hundred black gold coins alone were already more than enough to buy all the slaves he was selling.

And now, this man was offering ten times the fair price. It made him both happy and afraid.

No one knew the true intent behind Nolan’s actions, especially after it was revealed that those disabled slaves were part of the previous Demon Empress’s reign.

"Just consider it compensation for having kept and fed them," Nolan replied indifferently.

That amount was nothing to him. Besides, he would soon return to his own era, so there was no point in keeping the coins.

The demon stared at the pouch in his hand with a dazed expression.

At first, he had thought bringing the man in front of him to his slave shop would only bring bad luck.

However, he hadn’t expected to actually gain such a huge profit.

"All right, I understand! Don’t worry, I’ll set them free afterward!" he swore.

Nolan nodded in satisfaction. He reached into his pocket again and pulled out a thumb-sized vial of potion before handing it to the demon.

"Use this to heal them. Pour it into a large bucket, then distribute it to them using small cups. Within a day, they’ll be fully recovered," he explained briefly.

The demon took the vial and stared at it curiously. Even just looking at it, he could feel how much power it held.

Nolan didn’t say anything else and turned to leave. But after a few steps, he suddenly stopped, like he’d just remembered something.

"Oh, right," he said, glancing over his shoulder. "The Demon Empire is under attack by human forces. Their end will be tragic. The Demon Race will fall soon. You’d better prepare yourself and flee as far away as possible."

The demon was startled. When he looked up again, Nolan had already vanished from sight.

"The Demon Race will lose the war against humanity..." His eyes widened. "How is that possible...?"

"Sir, where are we going?" the girl in Nolan’s arms asked.

Nolan smiled. Instead of answering, he asked, "Do you have a name?"

The girl fell silent for a moment before shaking her head.

"No, I don’t have a name," she replied, sounding downcast.

Nolan had expected as much. He stroked his chin, as if lost in thought.

Then a name came to mind.

"How about I name you? Your name is Chloe now."

"Chloe?" the girl asked in surprise.

"That’s right. Chloe means beauty and grace. I’m sure you’ll grow up to be graceful and beautiful someday. What do you think?"

The girl went quiet, her expression slowly changing from uncertainty to happiness.

"Um! I’ll take it! That’s a great name!" she said enthusiastically.

Nolan chuckled softly. For some reason, Chloe reminded him of Eira and Luna.

"Alright, let’s go. We need to heal your eyes first."

After saying that, Nolan vanished from the slave market alley filled with demons.
