Chapter 796: Nathan Asbourne’s Crushing Defeat (1)
"How is that possible? Did he really lose just like that?" a man in the crowd muttered in disbelief.
He had bet his family’s entire savings on this match. And he had chosen Nathan because many people were convinced he would win.
But reality proved otherwise. Nathan had actually lost to Evalyn.
It wasn’t just that man—everyone watching the match could only stare in disbelief.
Nathan Asbourne, the one expected to win, had actually lost.
It was completely absurd.
"What the hell is that guy doing?" Cedric could no longer stay calm and shot to his feet. "Why did he lose like that? Did he do it on purpose?"
His fists clenched tightly as rage burned inside him.
Earlier, he had been absolutely certain Nathan would win. Yet the scene unfolding before him shattered that certainty.
Without realizing it, he turned to Margaretta, searching for an explanation.
Margaretta froze. Her indifferent expression slowly gave way to horror and fear.
"I-I can’t see it."
Cedric’s expression changed. "What do you mean?"
Margaretta looked at him in panic.
"The future I witnessed has drastically changed without my knowledge."
Something like this should have been impossible. Her innate ability could lock onto a future that was certain to happen.
This was the first time she had experienced something like this, and she had no idea how it was possible.
Cedric’s breathing grew heavy, and his eyes gradually turned red.
"Damn..."
He gritted his teeth. His sharp gaze locked onto Nolan, who was staring right back at him.
Nolan smirked and rubbed his thumb against his index finger, as if to say, "Don’t forget the money, okay?"
Cedric’s heart pounded. That bet had cost him around one hundred twenty million Sharn.
He only had fifty million Sharn, plus another twenty million he had saved beforehand. In total, he only had seventy million Sharn.
He couldn’t pay the amount he had promised.
"N-No, this is impossible!" Cedric forced himself to calm down. "I’m sure... I’m sure Nathan Asbourne can beat Evalyn! It’s not over yet!"
But deep inside, fear began to creep into his heart, like invisible hands slowly pulling him into the depths.
"Ahem!"
Nathan coughed and clutched his aching chest. He looked up and stared at Evalyn in astonishment as she stood calmly in the distance.
"H-How... is this possible? Why can’t I defeat you!?" he shouted angrily.
He had already inherited the legacy of the Hero of Darkness—his family’s ancestor.
Meanwhile, Evalyn had yet to receive the legacy of the Lionheart family’s ancestor.
So why was he the one who lost?
It made absolutely no sense.
Evalyn merely smiled. She slowly walked toward him, dragging the tip of the Divine Sword Luminus across the ground.
The gesture resembled that of an executioner preparing to execute a condemned prisoner.
"Surrender. From the very beginning, you never stood a chance against me."
She stopped in front of him and pointed the tip of her sword at Nathan’s nose.
"At least if you surrender now, you won’t be completely humiliated."
The moment he saw the sword pointed at him, Nathan’s heart raced. Fear began to surface, but his pride and arrogance quickly suppressed it.
"I won’t lose! I won’t!"
Boom!
A black aura suddenly erupted from his body. At the same time, a black tattoo spread across the left side of his face, while a pair of bat-like wings slowly emerged from his back.
Evalyn was slightly surprised. The technique resembled the one she had seen Lucas use before—Final Eclipse.
But a moment later, she regained her composure. It wasn’t surprising that Nathan had mastered that technique.
After all, he had inherited the legacy of the Hero of Darkness. It would have been stranger if he didn’t know it.
"Final Eclipse, huh? Well, it looks quite different from Lucas’s version," she muttered.
She made no attempt to interrupt Nathan’s transformation. In fact, she could have stopped him and ended this tedious battle right then and there.
But she had long wanted to defeat Nathan and humiliate him in front of everyone.
And now that the opportunity had presented itself, she had no intention of wasting it.
"Oh! Finally, he’s using his secret technique!"
Hector’s eyes sparkled, and his fists clenched with excitement.
One of the secret techniques Nathan had inherited from the Hero of Darkness’s legacy was called Final Eclipse.
Hector didn’t know the exact capabilities of the technique, since Nathan had never demonstrated it in front of him.
However, as far as he could remember, Nathan had once claimed that it could double his strength.
Hector was certain Nathan would turn the tables.
"Argh!"
Nathan’s power erupted, transforming into a shockwave that swept across the arena.
The ordinary spectators were knocked backward by the impact. Fortunately, a magical barrier stood behind them, preventing them from being thrown out of the arena.
"Evalyn..." Nathan growled. "I’m going to defeat you this time!"
Evalyn remained completely unfazed by his threat.
She looked at Nathan’s transformed appearance and chuckled softly.
"You’re truly pathetic, Nathan."
How should she put it? He looked absolutely ridiculous.
His hair was a mess, and a tattoo the size of half a palm covered the left side of his face.
The bat wing on his back was also incomplete. Only one had fully formed, while the other had failed to grow properly.
His appearance was completely different from Lucas’s, who could use Final Eclipse perfectly.
Hearing that taunt, Nathan’s anger finally boiled over. He crouched and shot toward Evalyn.
His incredible speed made it seem as though he had vanished.
"Die!"
He swung the Dark Sword of Eclipse at her.
Just as the blade was about to strike Evalyn, she disappeared. The sword slammed into the sandy ground where she had been standing.
Boom!
Sand burst into the air, forming a cloud of dust that obscured their vision.
Nathan wasn’t surprised by Evalyn’s speed. She had already dodged his attacks several times before.
It was only natural that she could evade that attack as well.
Whoosh!
Nathan charged at Evalyn once more.
Clang!
Their swords collided, sending sparks flying. Neither was willing to yield, and both matched each other blow for blow.
However, with his strength now doubled, Nathan held the advantage in raw power.
Putting all his strength into the clash, he forced Evalyn back and sent her flying dozens of meters away.
Evalyn was thrown backward, but she quickly twisted her body in midair and landed safely on her feet.
"You let your guard down!"
Nathan suddenly appeared behind her.
Evalyn was startled and immediately swung her sword.
Clang!
Their blades collided once again, but this time, Evalyn lost her balance and was knocked backward.
Nathan didn’t give her a chance to recover. He pressed the attack relentlessly.
The constant ringing of clashing steel filled the arena, creating a tense atmosphere.
Not to mention, their movements were so fast that they appeared as mere black blurs, nearly impossible to follow with the naked eye.
Nolan watched the battle calmly before muttering, "Nathan Asbourne is desperate. He has no chance of winning this."
