Chapter 854: A Natural Magic Formation
Chapter 854: A Natural Magic Formation
"Ah... Th-That..." Seira stammered, panic written all over her face.
There was no way she could tell him that she had suddenly acquired these mysterious memories, could she?
Trains, cars, airplanes, and all kinds of modern vehicles flashed through her mind one after another. She even knew what each of them looked like.
The problem was, she had no idea how to explain any of it to Nolan.
Seeing Seira’s awkward and flustered expression, Nolan narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"Sis, tell me. How do you know? Don’t tell me you overheard my conversation with Father?"
Seira’s eyes lit up. However, she quickly hid the change in her expression before clearing her throat.
"Ahem! That’s right. Sorry, I was eavesdropping on your conversation."
Nolan fell silent. A thoughtful look flashed across his eyes, but he didn’t press the matter any further and simply chuckled.
"No need to apologize. It’s not exactly a secret, especially when it’s you."
"Hehehe..." Seira could only laugh awkwardly.
On one hand, she felt guilty for lying to Nolan. On the other hand, she couldn’t reveal those mysterious memories either.
There were only two possible outcomes if she told him the truth: Nolan wouldn’t believe her, or he’d bombard her with questions.
So, keeping it a secret was the best choice.
"By the way, I’m heading back to the eastern region tomorrow. Before I leave, I’d like to have a meal with Mother and Eliza. What do you think?"
Seira tightened her grip on Nolan’s hand.
"Mm-hmm... I’d like to join you too."
"Great!"
With that, the two walked off together.
...
A week later...
Nolan made his way through the dense forest. All around him were towering trees and thick undergrowth.
The Calvaron Forest had stood for millions of years.
Even before the empire was founded, it had already been regarded as a forbidden land.
No one dared enter it unless they were prepared to face death.
Half an hour later, Nolan came to a stop. Before him lay a chasm dozens of meters deep.
At the bottom stretched another forest that seemed to go on forever.
"This forest is much larger than I expected," he muttered.
He looked up at the bright sun overhead. The clear blue sky was so beautiful it looked as if the gods had painted it themselves.
Then he jumped into the chasm and landed safely below.
After walking for a while, he finally arrived at a wide, circular clearing.
Not a single tree grew there, as though they feared taking root in that place.
"A naturally formed mana-gathering magic formation... I’ve finally found it," he chuckled.
He stopped at the center of the clearing. A gentle breeze blew from the south, brushing against his face and ruffling his black hair.
A naturally formed mana-gathering magic formation was a phenomenon that drew mana from the world.
Such formations could also be created artificially, but the amount of mana they could gather was usually quite limited.
Naturally formed mana-gathering formations, however, were entirely different. Their power was so overwhelming that no living creature could stand at the center of one.
Such formations could appear naturally throughout the world. They could be found deep within forests, atop mountains, along lakeshores, and even in the middle of the ocean.
Naturally, not all of them were equally powerful. The larger the forest or the taller the mountain, the stronger the formation that would emerge.
The ocean, however, was a different story. It contained countless natural mana-gathering formations, each with an immense ability to draw mana from the natural world.
After the ocean, forests ranked second, followed by mountains.
The formation Nolan was standing on possessed an incredibly powerful pull on the surrounding mana. He could feel it gathering and swirling at an astonishing speed.
The reason no trees grew in that spot was because of the overwhelming concentration of mana.
No plant could survive in such an environment.
"All right, let’s get started."
Nolan stepped back and snapped his fingers.
The materials he needed instantly appeared in front of him.
Without another word, he got to work setting up the formation.
...
"Rafine, have you seen my brother?" Elina asked as she stepped into Rafine’s room, a worried look on her face.
Rafine, who was helping Eira with her studies, looked up and shook her head.
"No, I haven’t seen him. Didn’t he tell you where he was going?"
Elina let out a long sigh.
"He said he was going for a walk and it’s been over two hours and I haven’t seen him."
"Why don’t we ask Uncle Luvistar to look for him?" Rafine suggested.
Elina fell silent for a moment, considering the suggestion.
Before she could make up her mind, she heard footsteps behind her.
"Were you looking for me?"
Elina and Rafine were startled and instinctively turned to see Nolan walking toward them with a relaxed smile.
"Brother!" Elina hurried over to him, looked him up and down, then let out a sigh of relief. "Where have you been? I couldn’t find you anywhere in the mansion."
Nolan rolled his eyes.
"Didn’t I tell you I was just going out for a while? Why were you so worried?"
Elina scratched her cheek sheepishly.
"It’s not like that. You may not know this, but Rafine was the target of an assassination attempt earlier. If it hadn’t been for one of Singularity of Chaos’s subordinates who saved her, she might have died. I was just afraid you might be the next target."
Nolan’s expression darkened slightly.
"Someone tried to assassinate Rafine? Who was behind it?" he asked coldly.
"We still don’t know, but I’m sure it was someone on our side. It could’ve been Cedric, Aldric, or even... Adalen," Elina replied, her voice turning cold.
Nolan frowned before giving a slow nod.
"I understand. Don’t worry, I won’t be gone for long."
Elina nodded in relief and said nothing more.
Just then, hurried footsteps echoed through the hallway behind them.
A servant rushed over, looking visibly flustered.
"Your Highness! We have a guest!"
"A guest?" Elina blinked in confusion. "Who is it?"
"It’s the Second Princess, Her Highness Novaria!"
***
Novaria looked at the mansion in front of her, her expression complicated.
"I never thought I’d end up visiting Elina one day. Fate really is unpredictable," she murmured with a bitter smile.
Back then, she’d always looked down on Elina and never missed a chance to mock her. She’d taken great pride in being the queen’s daughter.
But now, everything had changed. Elina’s status far surpassed her own, while she—who had once been so proud of her noble birth—had become nothing more than a pawn her mother used to gain support for Aldric in the battle for the throne.
Thinking of that, Novaria could only give a self-mocking smile.
"It’s truly... sad."
