The Hidden Extra: The Lazy Prince Refuses to Ascend The Throne

Chapter 865: Rescue

Chapter 865: Rescue

The night was eerily quiet. The cawing of crows and the cries of other nocturnal birds echoed clearly outside the wooden house.

The burly men were already dead drunk, sprawled across the sofa and the floor.

Only one of them was still barely awake—the burly bald man who had won the betting game earlier.

"Why hasn’t that guy come back yet?" he muttered, rubbing his throbbing head.

The person he was referring to was the burly blond man. More than an hour had passed since he’d left, yet he still hadn’t returned.

A sense of unease crept over him.

"Could he have been attacked by a wild animal?"

He wanted to dismiss the thought, but it was the only explanation he could come up with.

With unease still gnawing at him, he slowly got to his feet and walked toward the door.

The moment he opened the door, a cold breeze brushed against his face, sending a chill down his spine.

He stepped outside and looked around, but his friend was nowhere to be seen.

A bad feeling settled in his chest. He took a few more steps and called out,

"Bro, where are you? Quit messing around. This isn’t funny!"

Still, there was no response.

Just as the tension reached its peak, a hand suddenly shot out and clamped around his neck, lifting him off the ground.

"Gyah!"

The bald man groaned in pain. He tried to see who had grabbed him, but he couldn’t. His neck was pinned in place, making it impossible to turn his head.

"No need to struggle. You won’t survive."

A cold voice came from below him. Unfortunately, the bald man still couldn’t see the person who was choking him.

"You..."

Before he could finish speaking, the sound of cracking bones echoed through the air. The next second, his vision blurred before everything went completely dark.

Nolan tossed the lifeless body aside and glared coldly at the two remaining men.

He raised a hand. Luvistar, Rafine, and the two hundred soldiers they had brought immediately sprang into action.

***

"Mhmm... I want a glass of beer!"

The burly red-haired man sleeping on the sofa mumbled in his sleep as he lazily raised his right hand.

His companion lying beside him was mumbling as well. Judging by their reactions, they seemed to be having a pleasant dream.

Suddenly...

Boom!

A massive log smashed through the wooden house, blowing the door and walls apart.

The two burly men shot awake. Before they could react, cold blades were already pressed against their throats.

"Don’t move, or you’ll die!" Luvistar threatened coldly.

Glup!

They both swallowed hard. They still had no idea what was happening, but with swords at their necks, neither of them dared to move.

Luvistar nodded in satisfaction and immediately ordered his soldiers to restrain the two men.

Nolan and Rafine then walked into the wooden house.

"Where are their prisoners?" Rafine asked.

Nolan glanced at the iron door at the far end of the room leading to the basement.

"Follow me."

He walked over to the door, with Rafine right behind him.

Nolan crouched down and saw that it was locked with a heavy chain and a sturdy padlock.

But that wasn’t a problem.

He held his right palm just inches from the door.

A faint red glow spread from his hand, and the chain and padlock quickly began to melt.

Rafine watched in amazement. She already knew Nolan could use magic, but seeing it with her own eyes was still incredible.

Once the door had melted halfway through, Nolan pulled it open.

A staircase leading down into the basement came into view. A foul, musty smell immediately assaulted Rafine’s nose, but Nolan’s expression remained unchanged.

"Let’s go in."

He stood up and stepped inside.

Rafine took out her handkerchief, covered her nose, and followed after him.

The basement wasn’t very large or particularly deep. Nolan estimated it was only about ten meters below ground.

The place was dark and silent, lit only by a few torches mounted along the walls.

After reaching the bottom of the stairs, they found another iron door waiting in front of them.

Nolan activated the Eyes of Chaos and looked straight through it. Behind the door was a large prison cell holding many children, girls, and young women.

Novaria was among them. The arrogant and stubborn woman was now sitting curled up in a corner of the cell.

"Pfft! That woman is finally feeling despair," Nolan sneered.

Because she had been spoiled by the queen her entire life, Novaria had never experienced true suffering.

Nolan hoped everything she had gone through would change her.

Without wasting another second, he kicked the iron door.

Boom!

The door flew apart, scattering broken pieces everywhere.

The loud crash startled the prisoners inside.

They quickly stumbled back, their faces turning pale.

When Nolan and Rafine appeared, they froze in shock and confusion.

Only Novaria stood still for a moment before her face lit up with excitement.

"N-Nolan!? You’re here!"

She rushed to the cell and gripped the iron bars tightly.

Nolan gave a slight nod.

"Don’t be afraid. We’re here to save you. Those bastards are already taken care of."

His words were like a ray of hope. None of them could hold back their tears.

They had thought they’d never get out of this place or see their families again.

But now, there was finally hope. They had a chance to escape and regain their freedom.

Nolan walked over to the prison cell. The door was secured with a padlock and heavy chains.

With a casual wave of his hand, the locks and chains shattered instantly.

The moment he opened the door, Novaria suddenly rushed toward him and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck.

"Woaah! I’m finally safe! Nolan, I was so scared! Woaah! Thank you! Thank you!" she sobbed.

She no longer cared about her image or her identity as the esteemed second princess.

None of that mattered anymore. She had finally realized just how weak and helpless she was without the imperial family protecting her.

Nolan felt helpless. His hatred toward Novaria slowly faded.

As annoying as she was, she was still his sister.

Seeing her cry like that made him feel uncomfortable.

"All right, all right. Don’t cry like that. Everyone’s looking at you."

He gently patted Novaria on the back, but instead of calming down, she cried even harder.

Nolan shook his head and glanced at Rafine, who was quietly laughing at him.

"Don’t just stand there laughing. Hurry up and help evacuate the others," he said irritably.

Rafine let out a soft giggle before hurrying over to help the others.

They had been through a terrifying ordeal, so she knew she couldn’t rush them.

About five minutes later, Novaria finally stopped crying. She let go of Nolan and gave him an awkward smile.

"I’m sorry. I didn’t expect my emotions to burst out like that."

Nolan waved a hand.

"It’s okay. But..."

He covered his nose and took a few steps back.

"You stink. Go take a shower after we get back."

Novaria: "..."
