Chapter 856 - 846. Doomsday?
The Incubus System Chapter 846. Doomsday?
We shifted the conversation to lighter topics, primarily the upcoming college semester.
I sipped my latte. Larry eagerly discussed his expectations for the classes and the professors he hoped to have.
"Man, I hope we get some cool professors this time," Larry mused, leaning back in his chair. "Last semester was a bit of a drag, you know?"
I nodded in agreement. "Yeah, let's hope for some interesting courses and professors who actually make the lectures engaging."
Our conversation meandered through various subjects, from potential new friends to the possibility of exciting activities.
Inevitably, the topic circled back to Larry's less than stellar academic habits. With a grin, I decided to address the elephant in the room.
"Dude, seriously, you need to be more diligent this semester. No more cheating on assignments, alright?"
He responded with a casual shrug, his grin widening.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll try my best," he said, the playful tone in his voice indicating that my words might not carry the weight I intended. "But you know, old habits die hard."
I rolled my eyes. "Come on, man. It's not that difficult. Just put in a bit more effort, and you'll see the results."
Larry chuckled. "We'll see about that. I've got my own methods, you know?"
I sighed, realizing that Larry's unique methods often involved shortcuts and questionable tactics.
The waiter returned with a tray laden with Larry's extravagant order. A mountain of french fries, onion rings, two grilled cheese sandwiches, a milkshake, and orange juice. The aromatic scent of melted cheese and crispy fries filled the air as he set the feast before us.
Larry's eyes lit up with pure delight, and without wasting a moment, he dove into the food.
He attacked the crispy onion rings and devoured the grilled cheese sandwiches, all while alternating sips between the milkshake and orange juice.
I couldn't help but chuckle at the sight. It was clear that Larry wasn't exaggerating when he claimed to be hungry.
I contemplated stealing a few french fries while he was immersed in his feast.
Noticing my gaze, he turned his attention away from the feast laid out before him and shot me a curious look. Onion rings dangled from his fingers as his mouth was busy.
"Why are you staring at me with that look?" he asked, his voice muffled by a mouthful of onion rings. Meanwhile, a grilled cheese sandwich hovered in his hand.
Before I could utter a word, he interjected with a cheeky assumption.
"You don't have a crush on me, do you?" he quipped.
My eyes widened.
"No, what the heck?!" I retorted. "I looked at you because I rarely to see you like this. Considering your usual lectures on healthy eating and all, this is a surprise," I said, my annoyance evident in my tone.
"Well, pardon me then. A hero needs food to refill his energy. Besides, today is my cheat day. So it's fine," Larry declared with confidence, a mischievous grin playing on his face.
Without further ado, he plunged into his meal, grabbing a sandwich and taking a sizable bite in one impressive chomp.
I rolled my eyes, amused by his unapologetic indulgence. "Fine, fine. Enjoy your cheat day," I conceded with a resigned sigh, choosing not to dwell on his dietary choices.
While Larry continued to savor his feast, my mind drifted to Nathan. The lack of updates from Mrs. Clea about him after the recent battle.
Not that I would openly admit it, I was just curious. Nathan had been entangled with the senators' orders. It was surely sucks. I mean... Despite the chaos, at least I retained the autonomy to make my own decisions.
Larry concluded the feast by ordering a towering ice cream sundae as dessert. It was the grand finale of his culinary conquest, a sweet reward for the hero who had conquered a mountain of food.
Again, a long exhale came out of my mouth as I observed Larry, engrossed in his ice cream sundae.
"You should take care of yourself more, buddy. Value your life and yourself more," I declared.
I locked eyes with him.
For a moment, Larry just stared, his spoon hovering mid-air, ice cream forgotten. His usual carefree grin was replaced by a peculiar expression, an clear confusion and cringe.
"What?" I questioned, a frown etching my features.
In response, Larry's gaze darted upward, his eyes scanning the sky as if seeking guidance from the heavens.
"Is doomsday coming already? You just said weird things. Also, you called me 'buddy'," he remarked, his tone laced with a mix of confusion and mild panic.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his dramatic reaction. 'Yep, shouldn't have said that,' I muttered internally.
