The Incubus System Chapter 862. Real-life Comedy of Errors

I cracked a dry smile and rolled my eyes for dramatic effect. "Nope, no superhero speeches here. He went straight to using me," I declared. Classic Larry and his knack for cutting to the chase.

Her face scrunched up in a frown. "Huh? What do you mean? How could he do it?" she queried.

I raised an eyebrow, giving her a look that said, ’You won’t believe what I’m about to tell you.’

"He asked me to use my Telekinesis and take the victims to the hospital like a bunch of helium balloons. It was so messy! I felt like a priest conducting a mass exorcism," I spilled.

"That sounds terrible," Celia winced, cringing at the mental image of elders floating around like misplaced party balloons.

I nodded in solemn agreement. "Yeah," I admitted with a sigh. "Luckily, Nathan and the others showed up. I could finally pass the task over to them," I added, nonchalantly leaning back on the couch.

My laid-back posture prompted Celia to stand up and join me on the couch. Her eyes remained glued to me, like she was fishing for the juiciest tidbits of gossip. "Did you fight them? I mean, with Nathan?" she probed, curiosity practically radiating from her.

I shot her a wry smile, amusement glinting in my eyes. "No, but Larry managed to wrangle me into putting on a painful act," I confessed.

Celia cocked her head, a playful glint in her eyes. "Painful act, huh? Spill the details! What did Larry make you do?" she pressed, hungry for the theatrical scoop.

I huffed. "You know how Larry likes to clown around, right? Well, he decided to showcase his not-so-great acting skills right in front of me when I had to play the..." I paused, stealing a quick glance at Jill, who was on the verge of departure. No way could I drop the bomb about playing the great demon while she was still in earshot. I redirected my gaze to Celia and continued, "The antagonist. So yeah, it was painful."

Celia winced at the mental image. "Sounds like a sitcom," she muttered, her face twisted in mild horror.

I chuckled, nodding in agreement. "Yep, a real-life comedy of errors."

"But the good thing is he’s not angry or disappointed," Celia chimed in, a touch of relief in her voice. "I mean, you guys have been friends for as long as I’ve been remember. It would be a real bummer if your friendship just fell apart just like that."

I appreciated Celia’s sentiment. It was true, Larry and I had been through thick and thin. I grinned at Celia. "Yeah, well, the bond between us is stronger than any weird role-playing scenario. We’ll survive this," I declared. "Actually, I was kinda shocked, though, since he dealt with it so casually. Like, ’Oh cool! I’m happy that you are Ethan.’ Like that," I spilled with a touch of wonder.

"Tell me you’re kidding," Celia deadpanned, her eyes wide with disbelief.

"Nope," I replied, shaking my head for emphasis.

"He’s a funny guy indeed," Celia added with a giggle, her amusement mirroring mine. Larry, the demon hunter with the comedic flair. Who would’ve thought?

"That’s why I like him!" chirped Red out of the blue.

Jill, looking like she’d just witnessed a paranormal miracle, turned to Red in shock. "You can talk?" she exclaimed, her eyes wide and jaw practically on the floor.

Me, Celia, and Foxy shared a quick glance. Red decided to take matters into his own paws.

"Woof! Woof!" he barked suddenly, tongue hanging out, tail wagging like he was auditioning for a doggy treat commercial.

I chuckled, trying to keep a straight face. "Well, that’s one way to divert attention," I whispered to Celia.

Celia, quick on her feet, stepped in to play the hero. "Yeah, it was me who said it, Jill," she confessed, sending Red an amused glance. "That’s why I like him as a friend," she added, smoothly recycling Red’s own words.

"Yeah, me too," I chimed in, going along with the impromptu cover-up. I shot Red a look that said, ’Nice save, buddy.’ "Larry is a bit weird indeed, but he is a good guy," I interjected.

Jill regarded us with a curious innocence, her gaze flickering between Celia and me before settling on Red.

"Woof!" Red barked once more, this time with an added flourish. He put on the best doggy smile, a theatrical performance that could rival any trained circus act.

Deciding to play along, Celia and I exchanged glances before we slapped on our most innocent smiles, grinning like mischievous school kids who had just pulled off the ultimate prank. If Jill wanted a diversion from the weirdness, well, we were more than happy to oblige.
