Chapter 1784: Sharknado II

Chapter 1784: Sharknado II

Lex focused all of his attention on this one problem, slowing down some of the side projects he was doing with his local clones. Said side projects included things like studying laws, increasing knowledge about the universe, studying all the information that was being gathered by Obsidian and then diverting it towards either the Midnight Library which put everything up for public access, or sending it to the Midnight Newsroom which could lock the knowledge away to be sold. He was also doing a whole lot of other things too, such as contemplating lawcraft, practicing with his tenet, and refining his sword intent.

Working via clones was not as efficient as doing things himself, but there was only so much he could do himself, in which case clones were a good alternative for less important, but still critical things.

Increasing his knowledge about the universe was especially important because Jack was out there, roaming the universe with his crew, setting up the formation to locate the Nexus.

But in moments like these, where he needed to focus on one specific task, the effectiveness of his clones would drop drastically.

In truth, Lex did not need to rush so much because Katarina would take a long while to recover her strength. The real reason he was rushing was that he didn’t want to miss out on completing his quest.

Dozens of various, seemingly unconnected thoughts flooded his mind. John was making lawcrafts. Geeves was making suits. Disaster category guests needed another service. Disasters couldn’t wear clothes, and services couldn’t make lawcrafts - at least yet.

John cut hair, but blessed the soul through his sorcery. The Hot tub room cleansed the physical and metaphysical filth. The patisserie filled the stomach and gave augmentations.

To improve the quality of his ideas, Lex entered the Meditation room. No longer was this simply a room where one could learn techniques or just cultivate. Any and all activities which required mental activity rather than physical activity could immensely benefit from it.

Lex already had a fledgling idea of what he wanted to do. Now it was only a matter of refining the idea.

He didn’t rush. Sure, he could complete the room as quickly as possible to try and get back to work on the volcano, but he just wanted to make something useful rather than something random.

He opened up the system panel and began experimenting with the various features he could enter into a room, and properly began to experiment with the limitations of what he could really do.

Lex was limited by time, but in forty minutes, he properly designed a new ’room’ that he was thoroughly satisfied with. More importantly, unlike the Hurricane Service Lake, this feature could be used by almost any natural disaster Lex could think of.

He created the Disaster Relief Foundation, but its formal debut would only be when Katrina was done with her own recovery.

Still, that was enough to complete the quest.

Reward: Guest race glossary

Remarks: Adequate work. Your performance was not... disastrous

Guest race glossary

A glossary of all races of all the guests who have ever entered the Inn! As soon as a new race guest enters the Inn, the glossary will be updated with some general details of their race, their likes and dislikes to improve service. Any information manually encountered by the host will also automatically enter into the glossary! Disclaimer: a redacted version of the glossary will be made available in the Midnight Public library.

Not bad, this could be useful. The first thing Lex did was use the glossary to look up hurricanes. It seemed they liked large bodies of water, warm weather, dense spiritual energy, and living sacrifices.

That was a little morbid. None of the aquatic beasts Lex had put in the lake were living at the time. Even if they had to die either way, killing them mercifully was still better than tossing them into a hurricane.

Lex might have to create a rule against living sacrifices for guests to avoid problems in the future.

A little over a month went by before Katrina finally exited the lake.

The Inn was abuzz with excitement for the upcoming auction which would be held in a couple of weeks. Unlike the previous one, this one was made public since the list of items to be auctioned would be much greater. The auction was divided into two segments, and the list of items to be auctioned in the first segment were published beforehand, whereas the second segment had its auction items as a secret.

Of course, the first segment was more geared towards the masses, with the second segment being merely a spectacle for the common folk. To participate in the second segment, everyone needed to put down a refundable deposit of 1 MT. Just that requirement alone disqualified more than 99.99% of everyone participating in the event.

None of that had anything to do with Katrina, though, who finally left the lake feeling somewhat better. Of course, she was nowhere near her former strength. Without her gem fragments such a thing would be impossible. She was feeling much better though regardless.

On a side note, she used the lake for about a month. To be specific, she used it for 36 days. That was 864 hours, which meant 51,840 minutes, and even more importantly, 3,110,400 seconds. With the lake charging 30,000 MP a second, that was 93 billion MP spent! Of course, a good chunk of that was operational expenses, but Lex still ended up with over 20 billion in profits.

It seemed like this was one wealthy hurricane - not that Lex expected anything less. Or at least hoped for, because the Disaster Relief Foundation was not exactly cheap either.

"Katrina, how do you feel? I hope everything was to your liking?" Lex asked as he appeared before the shy hurricane, which had increased considerably in size.

"Um, it was very nice. It was a little small, but that’s okay," she said, grateful but also conscious not to hurt Lex’s feelings. The poor tiny creature had surely tried his best.
