Chapter 1887: A universe in chaos
Chapter 1887: A universe in chaos
It happened suddenly, and without warning. Realm war - and not just one. Although the universe was hardly at peace, and there were any number of Realm wars going on at any given moment, as a whole the universe was generally a peaceful place.
That was because a majority of Major realms were controlled by the most powerful organizations in the universe, regardless of any kind of affiliation. Path of Order, Path of Chaos, Hellions, Seraphim, AI, Deities, banks, races, ideological organizations, cults, the universe had them all and more, each one at various levels of power.
There came a certain level when an organization had over a hundred Dao Lords, and at that point they were basically considered invincible. Killing one Dao Lord was nearly impossible let alone so many, so purposefully messing with them was asking for trouble.
It would be easy to kill and destroy those underneath the Dao Lords, but killing the Dao Lords was not easily done, which basically meant that the attacker was inviting the target to do the same to their own juniors.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, but why did those who had been blinded care? Since they had already been wronged, then the other should not escape unharmed. That was a much more prevalent school of thought than that of turning the other cheek.
But it was also because of such a thing that a careful balance had been formed throughout the universe. After reaching a certain level of power, most races would become absolved of any serious threats.
Surface level threats and minor fights over basic resources and territory were still present, but no one dared to touch the bottom line for one of these strong organizations. For example, the war between the Henali and the Fuegan had been ongoing for countless generations, but the Fuegan never crossed a certain line even when provoking the Henali.
So in essence, the large organizations would not provoke each other because they had too much to lose and they wouldn’t be able to eliminate their enemies. Small organizations didn’t provoke large ones because they weren’t braindead.
For countless years, a balance had been formed, and yet when the wars came, no one was surprised. In fact, a few Realm wars had already sprung up as much as tens of thousands of years ago, but those were just a few.
Now, all of a sudden, hundreds of Major realms were invaded all at once, as if through some prior agreement. Those who were invaded had no prior warning, and those who invaded revealed not a peep of any hidden agreements. They all attacked independently, with their own individual forces or small alliances, seemingly uninvolved with all other invading forces.
One day, the universe was fine, and the next a good portion of it was suddenly entrenched in war. But even with this war, most of the Major realms in the universe remained unharmed. The only issue was that no one knew whether the as of yet unattacked realms would stay that way.
Some organizations who had deeper backgrounds, the ones who knew of a level above the Dao Lord, or even had access to such beings, knew what this was all about. They did not, however, share that information with the masses, thus creating a divide even among large organizations.
After all, there were some powerful races, such as the Seraphim, who had reached the level of a universal power through sheer number of Dao Lords, but could really be put on the same level as other races who had done something similar, such as the Celestial race.
The Humanoid Alliance was not a weakling, despite many of their member races being targeted repeatedly. They controlled many Major realms, which is why it was no surprise that even some of their realms were attacked. To be specific, of their realms attacked, the most prominent one was Garvitz, the realm controlled by the Devils.
The attacking force was an alliance of Asuras, Banshees and Ifrits!
The battle had only just begun, and since all Major realms had a similar flow of time, it was too soon to determine how things would go. A thousand years was too short to conclude a conquest in a Major realm, but a single day, a single moment could cause a critical change in the history of countless smaller races.
With each passing second, the destinies of countless beings across the universe began to fluctuate, and the energy for the Nexus event began to accumulate even faster!
In the backdrop of such a major event, no one noticed the steady increase of the human race on the Cosmic Ascendance Spectrum. After all, their rise could also be attributed to the fall of the races involved in the war. Though, many could not help but speculate on the timing of the invasion.
That phenomenon of that mysterious figure talking about 3 trillion years... no one understood what it meant, but many treated it as if that phenomenon had been the trigger for the war.
Was this some kind of premonition? Were the next 3 trillion years going to be plagued with war and strife? No one could give them an answer, so many began to investigate on their own.
One of the many rumors going around was that the phenomenon had been caused by a Dao Lord called the Innkeeper, so many started to look into him and his affiliated forces.
Thus, approximately 8 hours after the Realm wars began, the Midnight Inn welcomed a new guest who had entered through the Origin realm, escorted by a guard of Henali Celestials. His arrival prompted a series of notifications for Lex, but he had been getting numerous notifications ever since he entered the Primordial Garden. With genuine, actual death possible at any moment due to the tribulation, he hadn’t paid too much attention to the notifications because he couldn’t afford distractions.
Therefore, when a new Dao Lord entered the Midnight Inn, although Lex got a notification, he did not read it. But he was too closely connected to the Inn now - he more or less always knew what was happening at the Inn in the back of his mind.
He noticed the arrival of someone important, and decided to look into it after the next tribulation strike ended. But until then the guest would have to wait - he was busy fighting for his life.
Wu Kong, who was going through some profiles on the new dating app that he joined, looked up. It seemed like he had a guest.
