The Innkeeper

Chapter 2104: Turning pink

Chapter 2104: Turning pink

Ignoring the stern expression on Eclipse’s face, and ignoring the massive spider overhead, Nulli waved her hand and conjured a mirror in front of her which seemed to rewind time to before the explosion, and played forward, but slowly.

Even Eclipse, who was already considering how to deal with these miscreants who dared to unleash their power in her domain, was distracted by the mirror and looked over. Since the playback was slow, it allowed them to observe everything clearly.

Neither the Innkeeper, nor Mary made a move when the explosion occurred, nor did they react as the shockwave spread out. Yet just as the shockwave was about to touch the Innkeeper, a Butter Knife shot out of the Innkeepers pocket.

"Why was he keeping a butter knife in his pocket?" Eclipse asked, looking at the Innkeeper’s image oddly. Yet Nulli had no reply, for she too was only watching the playback.

The power in the butter knife was not strong - heck it couldn’t even qualify as a proper Dao level attack. Yet, what little energy it did contain was utilized with exceptional precision.

Instead of blocking or cancelling the shockwave, the butterknife seemed to effortlessly cut into it, leaving behind a gap so small and exact that it perfectly prevented the shockwave from even touching the Innkeeper, or his assistant. Yet they were not the only ones protected!

With that infinitesimal amount of energy within the blade, the Innkeeper somehow managed to create numerous such precise gaps in the shockwave, perfectly protecting even all the mortal workers.

Honestly, the fact that the Innkeeper had managed to protect himself, and even his workers, from the explosion’s shockwave was not too surprising. What was surprising was the way in which he did it. Instead of directly negating the attack, which is what all the others did, he used the absolute least amount of energy required in the most accurate way possible to leave himself and his staff unharmed.

In a cultivation level where others cannot even control all the power that they have, for the Innkeeper to do something like this... was nothing less than a work of art!

Nulli stood up from her seat as she summoned several more mirrors, using them all to look back in time, watching how each and every worker was saved.

Considering that they were mortals, and the shockwave originated from Dao energy, even the minutest possible exposure to even the aura of it would have been enough to erase them from existence entirely. Yet the Innkeeper did not make the gaps in the shockwave larger even by a millimetre than what was required. If even a single wrinkle in their clothes had been ruffled by the energy, it would have destroyed them, yet let alone the creases in their clothes, the gaps in the shockwave were accurate down to the atom!

Nulli started to hyperventilate as she watched the scenes again and again, her deep blue skin starting to turn pink as she blushed. Nulli had flirted heavily with the Innkeeper and Mary for a couple of reasons. The first was because they had never met before, so they had not rejected Nulli before. The second was because she had only a single factor which determined whether or not she was attracted to someone: how powerful they were.

Both the Innkeeper and Mary seemed like remarkable Dao Lords, both with their own unique strengths and personalities. How, then, could she resist flirting with them?

Now, as she saw the effortless display of absolute control by the Innkeeper, as well as his unparalleled fidelity in the application of his power... she could feel her desire to flirt evolve into something far greater.

"Not bad at all, and look, the butter knife didn’t even break," Eclipse said, pointing towards one of the mirrors showing the butter knife returning to the Innkeeper’s pocket. Surprisingly, from the start of the explosion, till the end, the Innkeeper did not move at all. It was only after the butter knife had returned to him that he turned towards the fighting Dao Lords, his expression still as casual as it always was.

"Considering how much he cares about his inn, you would think he’d be a little more mad about his tavern blowing up," Eclipse commented, watching the many visions. But then she furrowed her brows and looked towards Nulli, who had gone from being entirely blue to entirely pink.

"By the Primordial sands, control yourself woman! You’ve turned pink out in public," Eclipse said as she covered Nulli with a blanket, feeling second hand embarrassment because of her friend’s actions.

While Nulli was the only one who had caught direct sight of the Innkeepers actions, she wasn’t the only one who noticed what had happened. While the oppressive, deadly aura of the giant spider could intimidate many, it could not scare Ventura.

That was why he only casually looked up at the spider, and then back down at the tavern. When he noticed that all the mortals were alive, he did a simple calculation to see how they had survived. It hadn’t even been a conscious decision - it was merely something he just did for almost everything he saw. He had enough computational power in his mind to determine exactly what had happened in the location around him going back millions of years, so checking up on some mortal humans didn’t even register as something important at all.

Yet when he saw the effective use of the butter knife, he paused and looked over to the Innkeeper. Damn, he wanted to grab that guy and make him into a teacher!

Slowly, the other Dao Lords also began to notice the anomaly. The cow Dao Lord had been concerned about the bartender who had served her various kinds of abominations and called them milk. Wu Kong was, in general, concerned about the workers since he hadn’t been able to act in time to protect them.

One by one, they all checked, and all noticed the innkeepers actions, thus leading to a very unusual set of circumstances.

Inside the Primordial Garden, about half the Dao Lords were stunned and feeling extremely wary as they were being locked onto by a very powerful figure in the sky, while the other half was just staring dumbfounded at the Innkeeper.
